I think you own or manage a quilt shop?

I'm really happy/pleased/impressed that you asked which brands we WalMart shoppers like(d).

Your question was very straight-forward and had no "spin" on it.

Thank you for asking.

I am really upset about Walmart, taking the fabric out of their stores, they were good quality , and good brands, they were inexpensive as well. Now to go to Joannes is really awful,

Anyway, I have about 3 Walmarts that still carry "some" fabric. but finding the $1.99-$2.00, very rare at this time.
I don't want to pay a large amount for fabric, I am a newbe here, fixed income, and I really thought of stopping this before I really get started, due to the fabric issue!. I did go to a Walmart Monday. and such limited products!

I need fabric, my stuff I have around the house isn't quilt material.

OH I am not going to give up! really!, its just I haven't found the right stuff, YET!
Maybe we ought to boycott Walmart, send them a letter or something. and this includes my other sewing projects as well.
ok I vented, hehehehehe, y'all have a great day anyway. and if there is a mill outlet in this area, I don't know where one is. I did discover a store that carried material, but the prices are way above what I can afford!

I've always liked any of the VIP fabrics from Cranston. That's the only brand name I've kept an eye on at WalMart. For the rest I've just gone by whether the feel was right and whether the colors were what I was looking for at the time. And sometimes if the color was right I got something that was not quite as good feeling just to get the color I was looking for, whether at WalMart, Joannes or wherever.

Quote: Our Walmart has the new fabric layout. with all the precut fabric.
I bought some fall fatquarters yesterday from VIP.
they are coordinated by line and even the paisley is pretty....and I usually not crazy about paisley.
The colors and prints are just beautiful, I love them. :P
My husband and I are retiring in 5 weeks. I was so happy the other day when I went to the WM near to where we are buying our home. It had the new fabric layout too. I love all of the precut fabics. It was VIP and so beautiful. I could not believe how much they had. Most of the WMs I have been in only had fat quarters and jelly rolls, but this Wm had all kinds of precut. I am a happy camper.

I love Walmart fabrics.I have bought jelly rolls there and have gone to JoAnn fabrics and they had the same one!! I got mine alot cheaper and there was nothing wrong with it. I love their fabric and it is affordable unlike most of the fabric stores. I do both though, but only sales.

I miss the $2.97 white weavers cloth. I use that to make purificators for the Priest to use in the mass. Hancock has it for $6.98 a yard

My area built a new Walmart which did not include the fabric department. They then went on to remodel their other local stores eliminating the fabric departments and I was told the same thing, that all stores would be remodeled and have this area eliminated.

Lo and behold----2 or 3 weeks ago, presto chango----fabric back in my local store. It's not bolt, cut to size but rather pre-cut and packaged in FQ and yardage and kits. Quite an assortment too and some really lovely batiks.

So my feeling is that all stores will probably add this back as a way to continue selling fabric to those of us who asked and at the same time not spend money on an employee to cut fabric and assist their customers.

Quote: when i buy fabric at walmart i am throwing my money away. would be better off spending it on a lottery ticket or giving the money to the indians at the casino. i was not unhappy when our walmart closed up their fabric section, except for the fact the new joannes bought all of the left over $1 a yard crap. raised the price to $8.95 a yard and put it on their shelves. at least when it was at walmart you knew you were spending your hard earned $$ on $1 a yard stuff.. at joannes they put crap out and put ridiculous prices on it like that will improve the poor quality. a few years ago the walmart had sort of decent fabric, they have sure gone down hill
???????????????????
