I know a woman who saves her thread. When she has a jar full, she places the threads inbetween to thin layers of water solviable plastic and then sews randome stitches, with various colors of thread until the pieces are sewen together. Then she rinses off the solivable stuff and ends up with a new type of lace background. Then she uses her embroidery feature and makes an embellishment with this thread/fabric as her base.

Each to their own.

Too much trouble. Like the bird nest idea.

I save the thread and the smallest of fabric trimmings, then throw them out for the birds to use as nesting material.

I don't but I have a friend who does. She then will put a very sheer fabric overtop and FMQ it to use in a project, like maybe the front of a bag. It's very unique, but I can't bring myself to save thread!

I use them for embellishment in free machine embroidery and also to make thread bowls.

I save some threads, but they have some length to them. When I change thread color I first CUT the top thread where it first goes in in threading then pull it forward. That will helps to cut down fuzz. What I have cut is around 12 inches, then I wrap it around index finger & thumb & put it in a jar (decorator etc.) a clear one. It makes an interesting display.
