This discussion has been so interesting and helpful. My piecing has gotten better with practice and my last 3 quilts
have been square or made square until the borders. I have measured, pinned at the half and quarter points, sewed
with the border on top and use my accufed foot and still the border would be 1/4 to 1/2 inch too short. So I cut the strips about an inch longer and then cut off the excess. I would love to be able to give my LAQ a square quilt and I will continue to try and try to get the borders to work but at least my off square is no more than 1/4 inch (still too much, I know).

I'm the queen of wonky quilts. The LA tells me what I did wrong, she's really good and can work with it. She points out where she had to put little pleats and puckers. I make quilts for charity so I'm not paying her. I just appreciate that she's willing to work with me. I'm slowly getting better. Square quilts? No, mine are more free flowing. I'm slowing down and taking more care with each step.
