I bought 1/8th yard of shelf liner (it is thinner but more dense than rug liner) at Joanns. With discounts it cost less than fifty cents. I use a piece under my foot pedal and use 2 small pieces instead of gloves when I machine quilt. Very easy to grab and move. I do not have the patience for gloves. Since it is 54" wide, this is a lifetime supply!

Smart. I tried that on mine, but the carpeting was a problem, so I got creative too, (as if that's a problem for quilters, right?) and used stick on hook and loop to stick the scratchy part to the bottom of the pedal. No more chasing the foot feed.

I'll keep that in mind the next time I'm in the Dollar Store, was just in one this afternoon, oh well, will check next time to see if I can find one. I do have the rubber mesh mat which works OK most of the time on carpet, although I still have to chase my foot pedal from time to time, although my Brother sewing machine sits under my sewing table, so the pedal can't move too far before it stops. Thanks for the tip.

Yep. I, too, have a piece of this under my foot pedal. I figure it saved me about $24 (I think that what the price was for the one in the catalog.) I had bought it years ago and happened to find it in a drawer with some kitchen things. Tried it, and, lo and behold, it worked! Don't ya just love it when things happen like that?

Thank you for this tip! I have been wanting something besides pot holders or styrofoam plates for this!

I found after I used the shelf liner or rug backing or whatever it's called, for a while it started slipping again. Then someone told me to throw it in the washing machine with the laundry. After that it works as good as new.
