The white looks too stark against the warm colors of the fabrics. I love the look of the first one. They colors all work very well together.

I think the creamy one would be best but either would be amazing.

The first goes so well with the other colors. It seems to support them

Like almost everyone else ... I like the beige (#1) best. It is warmer and works better with the fabric. Your quilt is going to be gorgeous!

Have you already decided on a border? If so, put both blocks up against it and look at them again. Do you prefer warm or cool look?

Number one is not too stark against the other fabrics.

I can only see the background on 1, which sure looks good to me! We're making the Tradewinds quilt next month in our guild. I bought a Little Gatherings Jelly Roll to make mine. Love your batiks too!! Pretty colors!

It depends what you are going for. If you're going for something more mellow or subdued go with the pale yellow. If you want something more stark and prominent, go for the white-ish gray.

I like the 2nd, but only because I am leery of white backgrounds showing any smudge of dirt.

I like them both too but #2 really makes the batiks and design pop. It also has a more modern feel to it. Just depends on what you are going for.
