Barb I love your Candy Dresdens! And sewbizgirl's idea of using them to accent quilts is such a nice idea!

Dotty, I put a .71 cent stamp on my Candy bday cards. Mine are very flat. I never have a problem (that I know)

I had mine weighed at first, to make sure of the postage, and then bought a bunch of those stamps so I can mail from home. It's the stamp with the swallowtail butterfly on it... I forget the price. $1.10??? It works as long as you keep your letter (card) no thicker than 1/4". If it ends up thicker, you have to pay for the envelope as a "flat" (rather than letter) and the rate is somewhat higher.

edit: Ah! Sheri is right... it's a $.71 stamp, not $1.10.

I took one to the PO and had them weigh it, and they wanted $1.21, until I challenged it and asked for the template. If it fits through the template and weighs less than 2 oz, it goes for $.71. So, I use the 6" X 9" envelopes and I package the candies in two stacks the length of the card and wrap in plastic wrap. Getting the envelope thin enough to pass through the template is the trick, because otherwise it won't run through their machinery. If it's too fat, then it goes for the higher price because it has to be handled by hand.
Postal workers make mistakes too, so that could be part of the reason that there is postage due.

Dotty, with the rate decrease a few months back, the rate is $.68 for two ounces which is what my envelopes are. If you are putting 3 first class stamps on them, you probably are spending about $1.50 on each of them. Might be worth a trip to the post office to have yours weighed and put through the template. It's the weight and the thickness that counts. If they tell you it's over a buck, I'd definitely ask them to put your envelope through the template. They'll know exactly what you are referring to. You can also order stamps by mail but they do charge a service fee on that.

Hope that helps!

Sounds like lmanna's is at the p o requesting more postage. What are you all doing? My postage scale says 3 stamps are enough. I would greatly prefer not going to the post office.

Also... if you prepare your envelopes in advance and leave them stacked, the fabrics 'settle' and the envelope becomes thinner than it was when you first put the fabrics in it.

You also will never be late to mail if you prepare in advance!

Hi, Dotty....mine ended up being .71 as well. I also went through the whole rig-a-ma-roll of weighing, fitting through the template thingie, etc. . I'm not sure what happened but the notice indicates the amount due is $1.04. I don't mind paying the additional postage...I just have not been able to get out of work in time to make it from the city where I work to the post office in the city where I live before the post office closes. Thursday is looking promising. If that doesn't work I should be able to swing by the post office to pick it up on Saturday.

Patrick's Mom, I usually go to the MN Quilt show, but I will be missing it this year. I am heading to Maine to go rock mining at Poland Mining camp and then back to MN to go Row-by-Row rowing around the upper half of the state.

I will be out of town from June 11th - 27th, so if people do not hear from me do not worry, I am just out having fun.
