It's a learning curve for me, making these scrappy trip blocks. I noticed that the 4th strip is the one that ends up being split 3 squares and 3 squares. I noticed that if I put a dark strip first and light strip last that seemed to look best to me. Then I thought I'd try 2 dark value strips, 2 medium value strips, and 2 light value strips-- and I made 8 monochromatic blocks doing that to see how it would look. I thought I'd share it with you.

I appreciate everyone's input and have re-thought the whole Wombat Star String block. It's 6" finished, btw. Please feel free to pursue it on your own as it's really a fun block. I think instead, maybe something like a kaleidoscope block I found online - - - - really simple and color won't be an issue. We'll decide when the time comes.

Check this out & let me know. ((of course, not those colors but the idea)).

I have printed the pattern and will sew it together when I can. It's a beautiful pattern but I question how it will look when using different colored fabrics.
The scrappy trips is giving me problems. Looking at the block it looks like it would be so easy. I have come to the conclusion that it is a "NIGHTMARE"!! lol ha!ha!
Back to the drawing board for me. Have a great day everyone.

Sunrise, I agree Scrappy Trips is a bit deceiving but I'm happy to report that after 6 of them, I finally can relax and not measure constantly. I have a good feel for it - finally! Now, I've got a machine issue so it's going into the shop next week. Hopefully, I'll have it back in a few days or I'll be pulling out my cheapie little White and using it to finish my blocks.

Waiting on my new square up ruler to square my blocks and send off to Jan. Reading thru past comments, I really didn't follow the full instructions. My strips were 2.5 and I did sew on a scant, but when it came to cutting the initial pieces. I just cut the width of whatever fabric I was using. As long as they were 17 inches wide I was good. Anything left over will be used to make 2.5 charms, etc. Went fairly easy and in 2 days had all 6 sets done.

Last question....will we use the various month's blocks that we've swapped out to make a one quilt or does each month make a separate quilt?

Great question. Each month will be different, so in my mind, each set of blocks would make separate quilts. If you decide to put them all together, that's certainly up to you. If you do, please share pictures.

Here's a picture of a QB member who made this pattern. Lovely! I like all the brown she used in hers.
