AUGUST - Scrappy Block Swap SCRAPPY TRIPS
#102
Lstew2212, welcome!
quiltingnd, hope you join us! I was nervous my first swap, but I found out people hereon the Board are helpful and sooo nice, and I had a fun time. :-)
Janice McC, your blocks look great to me! I think they look plenty colourful, you have dose of every color. Talk about mixing it up-- I guess I've got a lot of blue and red in this one!! I love scrappy-- once it all gets put together it surprises you how cute it becomes.

I guess I saw talk of batiks which I have none and about paper piecing somewhere (not this block) and thought this swap might be over my skill level. Is it signing up for a year...or is each month's sign ups seperate? Sorry for the stupid questions, I haven't done one before and feel a little *blonde*.
The block for September will be the Three Dudes block using Batiks. More info to come soon on that one. . . .
I mentioned the possibility of doing some paper pieced blocks; just 'put it out there' as an idea. I have struggled for years with PPing and have been determined to conquer it - - - - and I have!!! So I thought it might be fun to do an easy PP block. It's open for discussion - - - so please speak up. I'll post a picture of the block I have in mind.
I hope you decide to jump in and have some great fun with this group. We're a very friendly, helpful group.
Jump in!!!

Jane, I like the paper pieced block pattern, but not sure how it will work out to make the stars appear on the finished top, when we send in sets then mix sets of other sewers-- unless we all make all the star pieces with the same color for every block?
Here's another block.

RE: the Star String block, it's part of the fun - mixing & matching the colors. If someone wanted all 4 corners the same color, okay; all 4 corners different colors, okay too. There would be established colors: the primary colors, red/yellow/blue and the secondary colors: orange/green/purple. A block would have any 2 different colors of those 6 colors. That's not to say a swapper might need to make additional blocks to finish off a top, but that's nothing new, right?
Thoughts??

It looks like a nice paper piecing pattern for beginners. I have a feeling the example is being sewn with planned color placement, not swaps. But if it's not wanted for all the stars to come out each in their own color, then it's a different ball game! :-) ...It's a pity though, because the one-color-star is part of what makes that pattern cute.
