    Default Fat eighth size

    Good afternoon Boomers!

If you wash your fabric and cut off the selvages, and they end up 10 3/4 inches across, send them of course! Everyone here knows that if you prewash 44 inch fabric, cut off the selvages, some of which are wide, you're going to end up with less than 11 inches if you cut them into 4 equal width pieces. Some of my swappers will cut (3) 18 x 11 inch pieces across the width and then keep that 4th smaller piece for themselves. Some don't. I've GOT to put a size on the piece (or we'll end up with way too small pieces) so I'm saying a fat quarter is 18 x 11 inches but in reality, it is more likely to be 18 x 10 1/2 or as little as 18 x 10 inches if it is pre-washed. Please get as close to a full F8 as you reasonably can. And when everyone gets the F8s from their fellow boomers, pull out a ruler and see if it is the full 18 x 11 inch size BEFORE you start cutting. It always surprises me when someone says they started cutting and didn't have enough for the block. That needs to be determined BEFORE cutting starts! And remember, if you are concerned about large scale prints you selected, use the 18 x 11 inch size as a minimum. You may, of course, always send a somewhat larger piece but keep in mind that unless you ask for the remnants back, the other members may keep what is left over if they wish.

Please use your best judgment, Boomers! Thank you!!!

Edited to add the following: I just wanted to remind you know that sometimes I don't get to respond as fully or frequently as I'd like right now as my time is not my own. I wish I'd seen this discussion a bit earlier but I didn't as I was in a hurry to get the names updated. If anyone has any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me by email - everyone has it - as that is more likely to get a quick response or comment. Thanks!

I am leaving for the lake tomorrow and plan on staying for a week. I had to come home early yesterday so I could babysit my two youngest grands. They went to a wedding and didn't get home till 2 Am, boy am I pooped out. Taking dog to vet we found another cyst/ tumor that needs to be tested before her surgery on Friday. Dh will take Friday off so I don't have to worry about transporting her. no way I could lift her out of the truck. On a happier note we have decided to have a joint birthday- retirement party on July 10 th. You are all invited

Molly's blocks are confirmed in transit and Lucky_alf2 emailed and said she mailed them last week and they are due on Thursday. I'm just waiting on her tracking number.

Hi all! I just wanted to drop a quick note today hello. I am a busy mom and craft dabbler, but throughout the years I consistently enjoy my quilting projects and am trying my hand a more modern designs/looks of late. I've been a QB lurker for a long time and decided to make the jump from "looker" to "doer"! I am really looking forward to this "Boom" and think it is perfect for my busy summer as I can do a block here and there as time allows and then finish up when the kids head back to school in mid-August.

Picking my fabric was hard -- I chose Genevieve's Garden Grey by Kauffman -- it looks almost like white on white with the black butterfly outline but it is actually a very subtle grey. Not a great pic but you get the idea.

    Have a great week everyone!
