At first I could even see her. She was snuggled under the pillows. She popped her head up when I called her.

I wanted to take a moment to wish you all a very joyous season and a New Year that brings laughter and love ( and a lot of quilting!)

I thought jacobs ladders were January 30 and Bento was due end of February. Am I suppose to send JLs in at the end of December? If so, I need an address.

Duh, I just read the entire post. Disregard my last post. I'm breathing again. On set 5 of JLs.

Here's the idea I have for our next swap. Tell me what you think.

It's the Shadow Box quilt block, sometimes called Shadow Square or Illusion block (if you follow MSQC). I'm thinking a 12 1/2" unfinished block unless the group would prefer a smaller block at 7 1/2" unfinished. Also thinking of going with the yellow/grey/black/white combo. Any print having that kind of color combo would work; solid black & solid white for the rest of the block. Thoughts??

I like the Bento Box pattern. I sewed up an example. I sewed the first 2 blocks like I usually sew, then cut them, then re-sewed and the seams didn't match up well. I thought it might be the way I ironed the seams-- made another set of 2 blocks and ironed all the seams to the dark side carefully, but when I sewed the blocks back together, they still didn't look good. The seams matched neatly, my 'points' were all good, but the sizes of the strips weren't right. I really feel that I can't do the quick method well, and to make the block look good I have to cut and sew each one as I normally do. Which is ok to do, but in addition, the size of the block is too big for me... I think I'll sit this swap out. But it's fun seeing your posts! Keep the pictures coming! :-)

I have been having fun doing the Bento Boxes, am about halfway through the first part of putting the Squares together. Hopefully after I cut and reassemble they will still look good!.

Jane, I like the shadowbox squares. Personally the 12 1/2 are probably good for me (more forgiving) but I opt for different colors other than yellow/grey. Nice choice on a block!

I love the idea of the Shadow Box block in blacks, white and yellow for January's block. Have been thinking of doing a quilt in those colors for my bedroom - sounds like someone was reading my mind!

I have not been able to join in the past few months due to health - but hope this next year is better!
