Are there any resources y’all could suggest for me to advance my border skills in the mean time?

I can only speak for myself, but for me, scrolling through the round robin quilt images on Bing and border books are very helpful. Then there is that great quote about being brave: “You have to choose your combinations carefully. The right choices will enhance your quilt. The wrong choices will dull the colors and hide their original beauty. There are no rules you can follow. You have to go by instinct and you have to be brave.”Whitney Otto, How to Make an American Quilt, and I love the exchange in the same movie between Maya Angelou and Alfre Woodard, mother and daughter in the movie: "We will follow the rules of design." (Anna) "Sometimes you have to break the rules to keep the work alive. Une couleur laide, ca n'existe pas." (Marianna) "Don't give me that French crap." (Anna) (LOL) Some of us follow rules, some break them, be confident and let the creativity flow ;-) Hugs!

Pam,
I never thought I was very creative or good at borders either, but once I started doing RR and say what others were doing it helped me stretch my comfort zone and try new things.
I agree with Reba, I spend hours looking at photos of RR quilts and googling borders. It sounds kind of weird but for me it seems that each quilt will speaks to me once I have it in my hands as to what it needs.
Please join us for the next Round Robin or you might want to start with a row robin instead.

I love medallion quilts, and get a lot of inspiration from looking at them. They are very like a "round robin" in that they have a center and then different rounds (or borders) going from there.

I also find that having the quilt hanging on my design wall for a while really helps to come up with ideas for a border.

So I've heard from Reba and she now has mmonohan's quilt and the 12 small unused blocks in the post.

Paper and pens out at the ready and thinking cap on I have been drawing up my plan which will also incorporate the 12 small blocks into my round.
I love the planning stages!!!
Hope you approve!

Jacquie, looks like it will be another great addition.
This is the first time that I've drawn out my borders and colored them. I like the process.
Since I had to alter the geese paper pieced blocks for CarrieM's quilt and every other block is a different bkgd color I made sure I colored each section so I wouldn't mess up..
I have enough of the maroon to finish 6 blocks so two sides will be these pp blocks and I'll figure something out for the other two sides.

The quilts are amazing - I keep changing my mind about which one I like the best! I really like how a border will either add zing or calm to a quilt.

Loving your addition Carrie, so pretty ;-) I'm working on yours last night and tonight, going to be drafting the corner pieces and hopefully I'll get something posted with the progress. MMonohon's appliques took longer than I anticipated so I have to catch up now but I know exactly what I am going to do. Hugs!

Thanks for the encouraging words. 😊. These quilts are amazing! I’m really enjoying following this thread and have started my “borders homework” in anticipation of joining in someday.

Got Macybaby's packaged and ready to roll. In sunny California (all the daffodils were in bloom) it snowed last night. Don't drive in snow and won't put on chains, so the pkg will wait for clear roads. It's due date for mailing is April 15, so there's plenty of time.
