Question for Rhonda and ube quilting-

Do you use any special little rulers to cut 3/4, 1, 1 1/2, 2 and 2 1/2 inch blocks? For some reason I thought I'd seen a set of rulers for smaller blocks. I am just wondering as I am getting ready to take a class making Lori Holt's 6 inch blocks Farm girl sampler and I just noticed it has some very small blocks.

Here is my first commissioned piece (I am actually getting paid for it!!!). It is about 50 x 32. I thought it came out well.

I love your bookshelf JNCT! It is so adorable and yes it came out fantastic! Congrats on selling it!

As for the tutes here are the links - no tute for the whole quilt but then it is just a simple squares with sashing. I don't remember if I included how to attach the butterflies but I just appliqued one wing onto the quilt. Leaving the other wing free to move. If you don't like the idea of using the wire you can of course applique on the antennae.

    Butterflies for magnets or applique

Anna I use small templates that I have cut for me and then I add a plastic grid to them. I also can send you a small ruler I use that is 9" x 2". I do send these out for free if you let me know what sizes you want and I need your postal address.

THere are some small rulers available online. Tho the sizes I use are not. THere is a ruler that is 8"? x 1" and I did see a set of small rulers but don't remember where I saw it now.

I developed my own shortcut methods and I have tutorials on here for them. Whether that would help you in making the Farm Girl sampler I'm not sure.

    I have 1" 1 1/4" 1 1/2" 2" and 2 1/2".

Here is where you can see my tutes if you like - http://www.quiltingboard.com/tags/
The last 4 sections are mine. Plus the Electric Quilt has all of my EQ tutes

Annaquilts, For HSTs I use my 6 1/2" bloc-loc ruler. it will trim down to 1". For squares I have three, a 2 1/2" sq' a 4"sq and a 6 1/2" sq. All of these work for me. The smaller rulers have well marked 1/8" grid on them which helps to line up fabric for triming, They are Olfa rulers. I also have a small cutting mat, I think it is 9x6". I can cut and turn the mat rather than the fabric. The last thing I use for small pieces is the smaller rotary cutter, not the 45mm. It is easier to handle on small pieces.

Now you don't really need any of this stuff. I have collected these things over twenty years and they are my go to tools. One 6 1/2" sq ruler will do everything you need.

Hope this helps you. I am waiting anxiously to see your first mini!
    peace

LOL Ube you probably do not consider it mini. The blocks are 6 inches but some of the cut pieces are very small and it will sure be mini for me.

Janice, That is great. Love all the personalization like the Kleenex box, the kitty and the wine!
