Have you been camping in the woods and have an encounter with a bear?, out picking berries and see a deer?, gone fly-fishing in a mountain stream, found a remote cabin while on a hike?, canoeing on a secluded lake, see an elk in a meadow, pick wildflowers?

In this swap, use "fairly realistic" colors for the block subjects. Such as a brownish deer-not a neon orange one.

Swap blocks in sets of 6. All 6 will be swapped, so make an extra for yourself, if desired.
Limit of 5 sets (30 blocks) per swapper.
Limit of 2 sets of any one design. This keeps things interesting!

Blocks can be any size divisible by 3", plus seam allowances. Smallest is 3.5"x3.5". Limit of 1 set of 3.5" blocks to keep things fair.
Plain fabrics (just cut) will not count toward your block sets. These are a nice extra, and much appreciated. :)

*An optional twist: to do 1 set (or more) of blocks with some traditional piecing. Not a requirement, just a suggestion.

Dimensional embellishments: Please put them in a baggie to be with the block to be added later. This makes it easier to do the quilting.

Please check blocks before sending to ensure the following:
*Use pre-washed 100% cotton fabrics.
*Seam allowances should be 1/4". Blocks to be constructed to survive machine washing and drying.
*Measure carefully to ensure blocks are a correct size.
*All applique blocks MUST have all pieces sewn down in some manner.

This swap is open to all experience levels.

Please understand that I will have no choice but to return blocks that are not a right size, or not constructed to survive machine washing and drying, or other issues.

Your blocks should be mailed to me in a ziploc baggie inside an envelope, with your name and board name on EACH individual block. You need to include postage stamps only (or cash) for a Flat Rate envelope for me to send your return blocks. NO pre-printed labels!
Please send me a PM with any questions or concerns.

International folks need to send adequate $ to pay for postage.

Sign up deadline is Nov. 1st, 2011. Please sign up when your blocks are ready to mail. "Mail to me" deadline is Nov. 15th, 2011. I will swap and mail return blocks by Nov. 30th, 2011.

All general rules for swaps are here: http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-20154-1.htm.

Join us for a woodland adventure! Let's share pictures and chat! :)

This one sounds interesting to me. I have been planning to make a woodland quilt for my DGS, so this may fill the bill perfectly. Now to get busy making blocks.

QuilterMomma 09-06-2011 11:10 AM

I happen to have some blocks aready made in the woodland designs that I made up. I would like to sign up for this one. Will do the other three and have them ready for you. This would be a nice swap. Love the outdoors theme and my house is full of it. Husband enjoys these kinds of quilts. I may even dig out my fish blocks I have already drawn, just have to put on fabric and applique on.

Mariposa 09-06-2011 12:52 PM

QMomma-sounds like you are on a roll!!

moonrise 09-07-2011 12:42 AM

I'll probably do this one. I was going to make an outdoorsy quilt for DH anyway! Will see what I can come up with, and let you know. :-)

I've been stitching the deer today. They stitch beautifully.

How can a Moosegirl stay out of this swap? She can't!!! count me in of course. Moosegirl

QuilterMomma 09-08-2011 07:19 AM

Well "Moose"girl, would not expect you to stay out. We may just make a design in your tribute. I suppose you are going to want all the moose blocks?

moosegirl 09-08-2011 07:34 AM

I've decided on Moon over the mountain with a moose at the bottom and a mini moose applique for the small block. Moosegirl

I'm doing moose blocks too! :)

moonrise 09-08-2011 07:57 PM

I'll try to post some pics later this morning. :)

DH saw the wolf and deer "samples" that I stitched out, and had a cow over them! Come to think of it, he might want to join the swap. (He's a member here and has been in swaps before ... the Halloween swap and the Funky Winter Holidays swap. ;) ) I'll ask him when he gets home later.

I have that design and that fabric. We have good taste in fabric and designs don't we. Looks nice, I won't do this block for this swap so we do not double up. I have many others I am working on.

JudyG 09-09-2011 06:49 AM

Beautiful blocks, Moonrise.

LovingIzabella 09-09-2011 11:34 AM

Mariposa 09-10-2011 06:08 AM

Great blocks moonrise! :)

moosegirl 09-12-2011 08:20 AM

My blocks are layed out to applique this week but slight delay-husband made a little detour to emergency room with kidney stone so will catch up on sewing in a couple of days. Moosegirl

Mariposa 09-12-2011 08:41 AM

moosegirl-prayers for your hubby for a quick recovery!
Looking forward to seeing your blocks! :)

QuilterMomma 09-12-2011 09:13 AM

So sorry your hubby has to go thru that. It is quite painful. As they say, just to lighten incident, that a man actually knows what a woman goes thru on childbirth when he has to pass one of those ugly stones. My deepest concern for him and will pray they dissolve before having to pass all the way thru.

Oh My those hurt more than having a baby! I hope he feeling better...

Jupiter 09-13-2011 03:15 PM

I have some wonderful yardage I've been saving for just such a swap. It is sort of buckskin color and has pine trees and cabins and maybe a bear or two.

I don't have an emboirdery machine. So many of the previous posts talk abou that. I think those are wonderful. However, I want to be sure that blocks made the traditional way, using appropriate fabric, are welcome in this swap.

hugs, Jupiter

QuilterMomma 09-13-2011 06:58 PM

Yes, we need pieced blocks as well. That would be great. I am going to do a couple sets of pieced blocks just to mix it up a bit. I like them in my other animal swaps.

I am posting a photo. This evening I made 6 log cabin blocks to share and 1 to keep. Found fabric with a "log cabin" on it, so fussy cut those for the centers. Turned out nice, I think.

hugs, Jupiter
