Phew, happy we finally got our names, now to get started. I hope I don't disappoint Mamawalsh. She loves traditional and patriotic. Sounds like everyone is Happy, Happy, with their partner, so let the games begin. Off to look at patterns and fabric.

Well, I was listening to my gut at the LQS tonight - I saw a quilt and I said, "huh that is really a dude quilt... I think that's what Rodney needs" (true story and an exact quote of my inner monologue there). So I talked to the owner (who is a good friend) and we made a few tweaks to really emphasize the "dude" part. Anyhow... it is called Sea Glass and uses greens and sea-glass colored batiks from Timeless Treasures. Here is a picture (of questionable quality) of the fabrics.
*For the record, Rodney's request said, "Surprise me." |

I am very happy :) this is my first swap, and what a great first swap this is going to be. My partner, Jldugas, is happy to get the dark red/ivory feminine quilt :) And I am going to have my mom pick up some lace at the martha pullen school when she goes, cause the pattern I found and this fabric will look stunning with a little lace insertion and edging. :) I'll get some photos soon, need to call my LQS about the manufacturer of the fabric. Need to load it up on my EQ7 so I know how much to buy of each ;) Will post that when I get it.
Oh happy day! |
Tammy (Tam...moo) and I are working together :) and will be sending photos to each other to figure out what is the correct fabric combo for each other so we are both dancing with joy about what will be made for each other. I know we will do smashingly well and well what a good job you did. Thank you Yosamitesa for all the hard work dividing us up. I know you had to work with allergies first and all the rest by who wants what and can do what.. lots and lots of work that most don't realize . it takes HOURS and you gifted us with your time. SMOOCH!!! (running she hates my kissing stuff something about eeewwww ).
|
Hello everyone, I was part of the swap last year and had a Great experience. I wish I wasn't so busy this year to participate. If ya'll don't mind I would love to follow along, seems that this years group will have a fun time.
|
Glad to have gotten to talk to my partern crqltr, carol.
now we are brainstorming. |
Thanks Yosamitesa for hosting. This group is going to be fun to get to know and move along with!
|
mumukate - thank you; Mr. Beasley is a Great Peyrenees; he was to the vet yesterday to get his nails clipped and he weighs 126.2 lbs. He's kind of short compared to his breed standard but that's okay - he's a towny.

Wow, gorgeous fabrics Dabbler312! Beautiful batiks. Its hard to go wrong with a batik isn't it? Love your dog's face. So sweet looking. I have an 80 pd. black labradoodle who is quite the character. We love him:)

Ok I called my LQS, the fabric collection I am drooling over is "Moda Midwinter Reds" I havent bought any yet and they dont have the whole collection, but there is enough there to work with, The pattern that looks great with this I think is the "Queen Anne" pattern from Benartex.
I did a quick sketch in EQ7 with the pictures of the moda fabric and the pattern, it isnt perfect but just wanted to fiddle with the colors a bit. So here is the rough sketch from EQ7 |

Love batiks as well - Mr. Beasley is anything but sweet - he's a great big goof like me; he enjoys his life of leisure most days - however, last week one day I came home late from work and he got into stuff and had it all laying in a circle on the living room floor - he's soon going to be six years old - he hasn't done anything naught like that since he was a puppy. One day in the far off distant future I plan on having a Doodle Dog - not sure if I want a goldendoodle or a labradoodle - I personally prefer big dogs over yippy ankle biters. Doodle dogs are suppose to be nonshedding - is that correct? |
Thank you Yosamitesa, I am sooo happy with my partner:), sent her a pm to get the ideas rolling!
|
Love the fabrics pulled for the swap quilts, you can all just send then to me.

I would classify the doodle line as "low shedders" as everything that has hair does shed to some degree. We had Labradors for years who are known to be heavy shedders and in comparison our Doodle sheds much less (or it is less noticeable). The longer we let his hair grow out the more you notice shedding around the house. If we keep it short, less noticeable. He is goofy and funny and a fun dog to have. He is in my avatar. He turns 10 this May. |
Hmm that is a very pretty collecting and nice layout.

have exchanged emails with my partner Mumukate and upon hearing about her preferences i have revamped my original intention. Now if i can find the right pattern and materials, i am going to do one of the quilts that has been sitting on my "to do " list for many years. Yippee!

Emc1118 I am sooooooo very excited to talk to you. Let me know when is good. I would send you a message tonight but I am a little loopy as I somehow twisted my back. Those muscle relaxers and pain meds make me a little out of it. Hehehehehehehe

My partner and I have connected, squealed in delight and started planning. She (Kgoodhand) would like a 30's quilt, and I just happen to have a vintage 30's wedding ring top that seems to be calling for her! Now since the top is 95% done (needs some TLC and attention to edges), I am going to focus on the appropriate quilting and binding to make it shine for her. I usually FQM, and have done a lot of practicing to get decent at it. But I have also hand quilt, and this may just call for that touch. If my hands will take it, that is! I am terrible at pictures, but will have DH coach me ( again...) and will try really hard to update from time to time.
Dabbler, I have a Great Pyrenees too, so I know the fur level you live with! Her name is Gracie, but that is the only graceful thing about her. 130 lbs and thinks she is a lapdog. It is hard to keep things out of her reach when she is taller than the counters. But my 3 lb calico kitten (Truffle) has no fear and swats Gracie on the nose whenever she wants to. Love the furbabies. |
Got my name last night and made contact. She love a "warm" red and requested Amish or Log Cabin . . . but doesn't like bright flashy colors. Eliminates all the Amish I've seen. Leaning toward Log Cabin.
Went to JoAnn's and found material I think she'll be happy with. MDQuilter: Although I found a ton of beautiful fabric with splashes of pinks, I steered away from them. Don't want you crying when you open your package. Instead d ArizonaKAT |
Opps, the end disappeared.

FYI - JoAnn's had 100% cottons on sale 40% off today.

TheMamaHauser picked some fantastic fabrics for mine. I do like surprises so I'm not going to look the pattern up. I don't want to see it until it's done, I know I'm going to be happy with it. :)
I'm a very slow planner and like to let things sink in a bit before I act. Thanks to Elisabrat helping me get pointed in the right direction I'm starting to get a few ideas about what TheMamaHauser might appreciate. I'm going to keep thinking about it for a while and see what direction I end up going. A big thanks to Yosamitesa for putting this together. I think she's doing an awesome job on this. I know I'm enjoying myself. Rodney |
I have also had contact with my partner...I think this will be fun! As she likes reds and creams this will be a great quilt for me to work on! Soooo tired of sports and boy themed quilts for the grands and guys in this family! I think I can come up something with that color combo!! Thanks yosamitesa for putting this together!
|
Dabbler, think I found your rich classic red, but did have to order some ivory white. Hope when it arrives it's the right color, I bought 3 different ones so 1 should be good. Picked out a pattern in my head and just need to figure out the measurements today and hope it will fit.....All's good in is never never land!!
|
Sounds like a lot are using reds and creams!!! Amazing!!!
|
OMGosh! the idea of such a treasure and possibly having it handquilted!!! I could only be so lucky!
I am looking around my sewing room to see what I can find for your scrappy quilt! Do have to check and see how you feel about grab and go scrappy?

So so so glad so many of y'all have made contact and are plotting your next move!!! There are a few pairings I haven't seen post or heard from yet. If you need anything or if your partner isn't responding, let me know ASAP...the key to this swap is...COMMUNICATION!!!!!
Now...happy sewing!!! |

Tam moo your pics will come in a few minutes ran out of batteries yesterday couldn't even take one pic! argh but did go buy some at the store which was such a good idea. I am hoping I can keep up with all these gorgeous quilts being posted. I love my blocks but we will see what Tammy picks. I hope to get that figured out today :) so I can plan plan plan.. one needs white lots of white and another I think would look good with reds/greens or some red with gold :) ah the challenge of planning. This is fun.
Yosamitesa sounds from all the comments you did a really good job paring all of us. We are all so lucky :) |

How true - we all love our fur-babies whether they're cats or dogs. Wow - vintage 30's wedding ring top - how lucky. I took a class from Darlene Zimmerman (The Feedsack Lady) years ago to learn how to use her easy tool for making wedding ring table runner - it is easy and I would recommend her tool and method. I'm actually signed up to take a workshop class with her again in March; she has a new book coming out and we had a choice of two different patterns to work from; if everything in cut prior to class we should be able to get most of the top finished in a day. You all have a great day - hold on to your hats out in that wind and stay warm. |
I can't remember where I bought this top, but it is definitely original. Each of the "ring" sections is made of 10 pieces, about 5/8" wide each, which is unusual. The edges were never finished and there was no binding, so there is a lot of damage to the outside rings. It need a good deal of repairing, and some replacement work on the inner rings. Cleaning will have to wait until the fabric is stablized, too, and I doubt all the age stains will come out entirely. Kendra, I have to warn you that this will never be an everyday quilt, it is too tender. So if you would like something else, just let me know, ok? And haphazard scrappy is just great with me, go for it!

did some googling and scanning through my stash of magazines and think i have a pretty good start on the pattern possibility. Now to wait til the first for shopping money and i can get started. After talking with my partner Mumukate,it appears we are both attempting some methods that we need to finesse within our repertoire of quilting abilities. This swap is one of the ways we can increase our talents while enjoying ourselves.

J_cody and I have been in contact with each other. I have bought fabric and decided on a pattern for her quilt. Excited about working on it!

I'm going to love EQ7 - I modified the pattern, then went to the fabric website and chose fabric to the design table and "harvested" images of fabric choices. I was able to place the images directly into the EQ7 pattern and see what the finished product will look like! AMAZING!!! Not sure I trust the fabric yardage chart it prints out tho but we shall see. 6 different fabrics! - that's getting pretty scrappy for me. I've never done scrappy before. But it is "organized scrappy" so I should be able to manage that part of it. Hoping Yosamitesa likes it 'cos fabric is on order! Can't wait to see how all the fabrics play together - it looked good on the design table??? |
Waiting patiently (ha) for Tammy to pick which quilt to work with. I am very excited at the possibilities for all of my quilts.. just need to know which one to start planning with. I am thinking I will use a fun new ribbon style border to go all around the Christmas quilt.. a little package :)
I want a golden doodle but not a full size one a mini one.. those are not terrifically mini. I hear they shed quiet a bit less and they are so adorable like bears! I had a golden which was the sweetest dog ever..just not the smartest. So maybe a little poodle mix would be a good thing lol.. help it be a tiny bit smarter. (for me this is a good thing the smart part). I love dogs just need to get in a spot in life where I can have one again. Not today :( so I will enjoy all your dog pictures and stories instead :) |
