Enjoy your family time, jaba!

sewbizgirl 07-02-2020 10:40 AM

Thank you, jaba. Enjoy your family's visit.

Hi Sewbizgirl, I had wanted a rare Khao Manee cat, a Thai breed, white with the odd eyes (two different colors) but my assertive daughter said "you don't need to buy a kitten, you need to rescue an adult cat!" So I replied, "! ." I searched on petfinder and adoptapet, looked at about 1000 cat pictures within a 250 mile radius, found 5 white cats with odd eyes, and picked up my sweet Lizzy Bennett from a rescue organization about a half hour north of Grand Rapids, not too far from my home. She is a small cat, smart, loving sweetheart, plays with my dog, and has a huge gorgeous bushy white tail (medium length hair). I'm blessed and in love, LOL!

Givio's center

So I've been mulling over the next border for Givo's center, did you include any fabric with your package Givio? Any more of the center travel motif little boats, or the black ball on a stick half moon centers for the applique or the light blue tulip-ish applique fabric? Just curious, it would make my idea a little easier to implement.......hugs all and hope you are enjoying the beautiful day!

givio 07-02-2020 02:31 PM

Reba, I got the center Noah's Ark fabric from a friend. The fabrics surrounding the center economy block, and the applique fabric were scraps I had, less than a fat quarter. After cutting from them, I cut the scraps up into triangles and 2 1/2" squares. Those bits and pieces I've sent along-- it's unlikely that it would be possible to fussy cut them anymore. There are not many pieces, they would have to be combined with something else to make a scrappy something. I hope someone uses them! I've also sent along a piece of fabric that has sort of a maroon/brownish background with a print that is like my four appliqued pointed ellipses (double crescents, don't know how to call that shape, like a pointed seed). Happy mulling! :-)

sewbizgirl 07-02-2020 04:09 PM

Reba, If you are ready for Givio's quilt, I can send it a bit early. I finished my part already. Have you finished mine?

Do you remember the appliqued bird on LeeAnn's center block? I had this fabric that has a little bird on it that looks similar in shape to the bird in the center-- I'm using the fabric in my round. Here's a preview!

sewbizgirl 07-02-2020 05:34 PM

So cute, Givio... and the butterflies too! Can't wait to see the whole border.

Rebaquilts 07-03-2020 06:01 AM

Sewbizgirl, I ordered a charm pack and it is supposed to arrive tomorrow. I pm'ed Ice with a photo so she could start her planning. I custom cut a foundation, and have everything laid out on my cutting table. Now I'm in waiting mode. I'll finish next week because I have some applique to do after I piece the foundation. So *almost.* I'll make the 15th deadline but because of the applique, it will probably take a week after I piece on the foundation. Because I'm in waiting mode, I've been looking at Givio's piece and mulling over what I will do, so I'm perfectly ok if you can send it now. I'll start fabric shopping ;-) Hugs!!

Iceblossom 07-03-2020 06:24 AM

And I am ok on waiting until the mail out date, I've actually started on my test blocks plus have a tub of fabric pulled for the next round.

I got the hubby to take a picture of me to include in my insert I'm making for the journal. Plan on finishing that up today and will be mailing my package a little early to Mary, after this weekend.

True story -- my hubby and I met on the internet and we had a long distance relationship for the first year or two. He wanted me to send him a love letter in my own handwriting -- until I did! After that he agreed that it was certainly a lot easier to read typed... My penmanship was never good and has only gotten worse over the years. I can usually figure it out myself, but there are times when without some sort of context clues it is iffy even for me.

sewbizgirl 07-03-2020 07:43 AM

Reba, sounds like you have a lot of work planned to do before you are done and ready to mail. I will wait a week or so to mail Givio's to you, so you aren't backed up. You can see her center, plus my additions, in her avatar. Whatever you are planning for my quilt sounds very exciting. Can't wait to see!

Happy 4th of July to everyone, and God Bless America!

Macybaby 07-03-2020 03:14 PM

I've been picking fabric for Bugaroo's center. I've drawn up an idea, but not sure if I'll use it or not. Going to think about it while I prime and paint the bathroom.

Mona G 07-04-2020 08:24 AM

Happy 4th of July everyone.

Bugaroo 07-04-2020 05:19 PM

Wonderful Macybaby, I can't wait to see it. Happy and safe 4th everyone!

dollycaswell 07-05-2020 04:22 AM

Any chance you have space for one more? Ive never done a Round Robin but would love to be part of your group. I’m a long time Alaskan quilter, not sure what else I need to say. If there is no room, perhaps I can be on a list for the next one? Thanks

givio 07-05-2020 06:05 AM

Yes, dollycaswell, there seems to be plenty of interest to do another RR after this one is finished. There's been a suggestion to start a third group now, or you can keep it in mind for sign-up in December.

sewbizgirl 07-05-2020 07:16 PM

Hi Dolly, We'll look for you towards the end of the year, when we are getting ready to do another Robin. In the mean time, please visit and chat as much as you like.

Iceblossom 07-06-2020 05:24 AM

Howdy all including Dolly and other lurkers and hopefuls for future fun. Hope everyone had a lovely weekend. Our town banned fireworks at least 10 years ago, but I figured this year would be pretty loud and it was. One of the new dogs was a bit of a wreck, but we got a prescription from the vet my MiL recommended, and the older barking dog was able to not bark hysterically for hours and hours so we counted that as a success.

Hubby is sleeping in and I'm out here processing my journal entry to include when I send Reba's center/my round to Mary, which should be early, either tomorrow (planned, after Tuesday quilt group) or Wednesday (back-up plan).

Hi Sewbizgirl, I'm actually mailing your center out a bit early, just because it is going cross country ;-) I finished while I watched a new netflix movie this weekend (very funny). So you can send Givio's whenvever you get inspired, Hugs!

jaba 07-06-2020 08:45 AM

Grand-daughter's and hubbies left this morning to head home, was really nice having them here for the holiday! Will get the house back in order and start sewing on Macybaby's center. At least that's the plan :)

Bugaroo 07-06-2020 08:57 AM

Macybaby I am ready to mail you CarriM's center but I'm waiting on US post office to sent my envelopes. I'll let you know when they come in. Is it ok to send early or do you wish me to wait? Either is fine.

Rebaquilts 07-06-2020 09:33 AM

Mailed off a tad early

Hi all, here is a first round completed. Inspiration was going to be the yellow brick road, but I upped the ante, instead I chose a Hollywood walk of fame with spiritual as-above-"sew"-below stars, in a Potter-esque font for our rainbow of names, as the houses reminded me of The Burrow, the Weasley house from Potter fame. Hugs and have a great day all!

carriem 07-06-2020 10:22 AM

Bugaroo--I too am waiting on bubble envelopes from PO. They say they have shipped. Do you want me to go ahead and send on Mona's center when they arrive?

sewbizgirl 07-06-2020 10:27 AM

Thank you, Reba... very pretty. Are those our names on the stars? Cute how we are in the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

I will get Givio's mailed off to you as soon as I can.

travelinggramma 07-06-2020 10:48 AM

Reba - terrific idea and work!
DH just left my round to MonaG at PO.
Have my two teen grands flying in on Saturday for over two weeks. We will be going out in our trailer for most of that time which will help with social distancing. Plan on fishing, kayaking, tubing and keeping cool. I taught GD to sew/quilt when she was 8 and she now has her own machine and loves creating - "I don't like to follow patterns" is her mantra. As I always say - patterns are like recipes - there for inspiration.

Bugaroo 07-06-2020 12:06 PM

CarrieM, yes please go ahead and ship when you can.

Rebaquilts, that is so cool. My daughter and I love Harry Potter. In high school she had a literature class in which she had to act out a scene from Shakespeare. She and her friends choose a sword fight but did the whole scene with wands. I made each of the girls a wizard cape. They did a great job.

Rebaquilts 07-06-2020 12:08 PM

Yes I hand-embroidered our names in different rainbow-coordinating thread colors on the stars to coordinate with the colors around the rainbow sidewalk, and used a Harry-Potter-ish font for the names to coordinate with the wonky center dresden houses that reminded me of the wonky Weasley house in the Potter film series. Hugs!!

LeeAnn 07-06-2020 02:30 PM

Reba, that looks great! I love what you did!

LAF2019 07-06-2020 02:51 PM

Reba - that looks amazing! and a nice personal touch adding in the names.

Love the font and the Harry Potter reference! And now I don't need to put a label on back with our names... thanks for that!

Wondering how you found more of my background fabric, since it's several years old? You must have a very well stocked LQS.

I didn’t have enough to add the 5” border I needed for my plan, so I found some on Etsy and ordered it. Sometimes a girl’s gotta have what she’s gotta have, LOL. Hugs all and thanks for the sweet compliments! https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/heart.gif

givio 07-06-2020 05:30 PM

Nice to see another round, Reba! Thanks for posting it. :-) My lap top is too small to see the names, and when I tried to enlarge the photo it got all pixelated. The sidewalk was a cute idea!

Iceblossom 07-07-2020 05:22 AM

Woohoo! Love what is coming my way. Is always different seeing what we try to describe from our visions and inspiration.

I'm going ahead with my concept... will have to do the fine tuning, but I'm already humming to myself and my tub of pulled fabrics.

I'm still planning on mailing out to Mary this afternoon, I might push it to tomorrow morning. Go in this week for an x-ray to start on my knee. I bought a brace yesterday that doesn't do me much good up and walking but was great over night.

sewbizgirl 07-07-2020 06:33 AM

I'm mailing today too... to Reba.
Don't forget to send tracking #s to your partners when you mail!
Reba, I sent your tracking info to you in a pm.

Have a great day!

Macybaby 07-07-2020 08:36 AM

Bugaroo - feel free to mail when it works for you, I'm not worried about getting the next round before I'm done with the current round.

I started working on your center today, Thought I had it all worked out and was going to start cutting this morning. So I went to dig out a pattern I knew I had stashed and while digging through everything, found something different that I really like. I liked my first idea but couldn't make it fit the size, and then came up with the second and was going with that until I found the third. I guess I wasn't all that "in love" with the second idea as I thought!

maryb119 07-07-2020 09:54 AM

I mailed Iceblossom's center to LeeAnn today. It should be there Friday. I will PM the tracking number.

sewbizgirl 07-07-2020 10:08 AM

Thanks, Mary! Did you happen to snap a picture of it with your round added? We''d love to see it.

Yes. I posted it when I was finished with it. It is back a few pages on page 32.

travelinggramma 07-07-2020 01:04 PM

Our dear ol priority envelopes used to read 2 day mail. Now they are 3 day. But it takes 5 or more days. Give it extra time.

Bugaroo 07-07-2020 01:06 PM

Oh MacyBaby, we sound like kindred spirits! I do that all the time. No worries. Take your time and have fun with it.
