Nice, Carrie! Beautiful colors.

Mona G 08-20-2020 12:12 PM

Great job CarrieM. I started my border for Macybabys quilt but still trying to decide if I'm going to make all the sides the same width and/or if the pattern will go on all four sides. I'm adding pink and black for my round.

travelinggramma 08-20-2020 12:21 PM

Carriem - Love my border- it complements the others so very well.. And with a hurting hand you managed those little tiny squares - I am in awe.
And - to make it a happier day - your center has arrived at my home today! Ahead of Bug's but its here - and the colors are absolutely
unlike the photos - really amazing workmanship.

carriem 08-20-2020 12:42 PM

Travelinggramma, I am so glad you like it! The trimming of the little blocks was the hardest part, but by limiting my sewing time I didn't hurt too bad when it was all done. :)

I will be getting a cortisone shot in the base of my thumb/wrist next week...Lord willing that will provide some long term relief.

I picked out some fabrics for jaba's quilt this afternoon. Need to make a trip to the LQS for a little more of the light blue I chose and see if something else jumps out at me. I think she is open again after the storm last week...it will probably be next week before I can stop by. In the meantime I'll be trying to decide what to do for my round....

Mona G 08-20-2020 12:54 PM

Reba, thanks for the purple and green fabric you sent me!!!!!

Bugaroo 08-20-2020 01:23 PM

Carrie, thanks for sending along Travelinggramma's quilt. It is going to take some time mulling over what to add. Right now the only thing shouting out to me is that it needs some white. I had ordered some blueberry fabric because of the light to dark tents of colors. But I am so like Iceblossom. Once I actually see it, I may totally go in a different direction.

So glad everyone and the weather seems to be feeling better.

On facebook there is a local meteorologist and he is saying that all the signs are pointing to an early fall. I like cooler weather!

sewbizgirl 08-20-2020 03:54 PM

It's been cool here lately, too. I've never seen such low temps in August in Mississippi. It's been lovely. Wish it would last.

Package from Givio arrived today, with Mary's quilt in it. Givio's round will be a really tough act to follow... it's amazing!

Bugaroo 08-20-2020 05:32 PM

Sewbizgirl, I just saw the weather. 2 Storms, one expected to be a hurricane and the other unknown at this time are both headed into the gulf and could potentially land the same day! One hitting Florida and the other in your area.

Thanks...It's rained all day!

Iceblossom 08-21-2020 04:43 AM

We've cooled down a bit, not quite as much as was forecasted but we got a sprinkle of rain last night. Hoping it stays cooler (70s) and doesn't get too muggy. Expected to go back up into the 80s next week but we can deal with that ok. 90s lately are just awful though without A/C.

Yesterday was taken up a bit with helping my son with some car repairs. They only have the one vehicle, son had made an appointment with our trusted shop near me, so dropped it off there. We went to Costco, picked up a few things, ran an errand or two and the shop called that it wasn't the brakes, it was the bearings and most likely they would have to keep it over night. So took him back home, delivered the groceries, made plans to take DDiL to work this morning, and was just about to settle down when we got the call that the shop had gotten it done but was closing in 10 minutes! LOL, we seriously got there with 30 seconds to spare, but they are all good guys and the shop doesn't exactly lock its doors right on time anyway.

So we drove in prime rush hour traffic in two cars this time -- but one thing about lockdown is traffic was wonderful, even if there is less parking in the city (cars are home and not at work). I worked for years with traffic engineers and for once/maybe the first time in Seattle I was driving the roads as they were designed for the load. Instead of Thursday rush hour it was like... I don't know... 5:00 AM Sunday morning?? Traffic was moving free and clear and we got there in 20 minutes instead of the 45 or so that it would have been a year ago.

Any way, a damp cool day sounds perfect for playing with fabric :) Hope you all have a good one too.

Here is a picture of IceBlossom's top with the round by LeeAnn.
I know what you mean about the covid traffic! So much nicer for driving....

Iceblossom 08-21-2020 05:06 AM

Oh wow! Thanks for posting the updated picture. One of the thoughts I had on how I would put on a round was with little houses and squat triangle/square trees -- Leeann, your idea is so much better.

It's really starting to look like something -- I'm so excited!

Rebaquilts 08-21-2020 05:10 AM

Back-at-cha Mona <3 I really appreciated the yellows, I used them in Givios border and am so happy to have them. HUGS!!!

sewbizgirl 08-21-2020 05:38 AM

Nice round on Iceblossom's, LeeAnn! Can't wait to see that one in person.

Bugaroo 08-21-2020 06:32 AM

Iceblossom, really like the negative open space. It gives a break from the darker round. Looking so good!

maryb119 08-21-2020 01:00 PM

Wow!! LeeAnn!! iceblossom's quilt top looks great!!!

LeeAnn 08-21-2020 01:14 PM

Thanks, I wanted to open up the space and give it movement. It was fun to do.

LeeAnn 08-21-2020 01:17 PM

I'm glad you like it Iceblossom. I used all the extra background fabric you sent with it. I was happy to have it so I could pull it together. I enjoyed working on it.

Iceblossom 08-22-2020 03:32 AM

I'm still riding my inspiration wave -- yesterday I cut out my sub-units. Changed my mat and my blade last week and it was like slicing through air. That was needed because when I was cutting the extra units for the Frolic UFO I was pressing so hard that my shoulder hurt by the end of the day.

Hubby is working today, the weather has remained cool, we got a nice bit of rain finally in the late afternoon. I'll be in my sewing room shortly, hubby sleeping in a bit (6:00 am start instead of 4:00). If I wasn't so tired all the time, this quiet part of the morning is my favorite as the birds wake up and sky starts to lighten.

Macybaby 08-23-2020 02:53 AM

I'm another that loves to get up and sew for a bit before DH gets up. DH is the main meal preparer, so when he gets up it's breakfast time. He's siding the shed this weekend so I've been helping out here and there with the large peices.

I got distracted yesterday by the tote of scraps from mask making, so I started cutting curves and sewing them together. Ended up with (finished) 4 - 12x12. 6 - 9x9, 13 - 6x6 , 2 - 6x12, 2 - 3x9, 2 - 3x6 and 35 - 3x3. I think I'm going to use narrow black sashing so I'll need to do some trimming to get them to fit together. The fun part will be figuring out a layout, glad I have EQ for that.

I'll start working on Carrie's quilt when I've got a longer stretch of time to work on it. It's nice to be working on something scrappy when you have to keep taking breaks to run outside and help lift a sheet of plywood into place.

Iceblossom 08-23-2020 06:06 AM

I got a lot done yesterday and I'm still feeling really good about what I'm doing. Oh, I always have my doubts... I'm adding/changing colors a bit. Before the top got to me I was pretty certain that I was going to be turning it on point and it would be bright red and blue and pops of yellow. That's not what is happening now, not the on point and not the bright colors.

Have one last set of sub-units to connect with spacers this morning, then I'll have to wait until tomorrow (and hubby back at work) to layout what I have so far and figure out the corners. Still have a bunch of flexibility/design decisions on layout. Think I'll have a progress photo by the end of the week.

travelinggramma 08-23-2020 06:41 AM

Group #2 - we are all ahead - all our second rounds are done and moved on to next miracle quilter. Great job everyone.

I have Carrie's and was supper inspired when I only had to go to two stores to find matching fabric! I had taken out a few books of borders from library and found one that is working very well (I have impressed myself really!!)

I actually went through my stash containers and ironed/refolded them. Took out anything less than a FQ and put them aside. What a feeling having it in order. When the boomerang starts I am ready!
Have a great Sunday!

I was also bit by the cleaning/organizing bug! I completely flipped my sewing room. I moved my sewing machine our from under a large window.... morning sun was always in my face. I have 2 rolling 48x60" shelving units and my cutting tables.... both with wheels... love wheels! Now I have a whole open wall for a design board! Hubby has it on his todo list to pick up foam boards!

I plan to order graph flannel for the design wall. Has anyone used it? Recommendations?

Iceblossom 08-24-2020 07:35 AM

Hubby's back at work and it looks like he'll be working some serious overtime until our trip, the third shift person that is in his group has transferred to a different facility. Hubby and the other guy will be working 12s until someone is hired and/or they train the replacement and/or our trip date arrives. It will be sort of nice to have the chance to miss him a bit before the trip :p

Yesterday we went up north about an hour and visited my cousin and my aunt at my cousin's horse facility. She retired from Boeing around 60-ish and bought a boarding facility 2 years ago and this was our first time out there. Her last place was quite a nice house with a barn -- this is a quite a nice barn with a house :) Although they have more stalls available she feels she doesn't have enough acreage or time to hand more than the six boarded horses and her two.

Her daughter did dressage when she was younger and they have a nice covered arena attached to the main barn. Outside there is a circular lunge pen and some holding pens for going outside a bit in the winter. The separated paddocks are a bit further down. Our little dogs did fine with the horses, but the chickens scared Harley...

It was a nice day to be outside and maintain separation distances. It is hard to be a hugger in a year of no hugs :(

Mona G 08-24-2020 08:56 AM

It's gonna be hot and sticky this week so I'll be spending lots of time sewing as my sewing area is in the basement.
I sorted all my small scraps into 4 different lengths and started sewing 10.5 wonky log cabin blocks. I'm slowing witling down my stash, even if my husband can't see it shrinking.

I am in Group 1. This is round 4? I think? Anyway, sewbizgirl, I hope you like it. The idea just popped into my head the minute I got your center. I drew it out on graph paper and it just came together easily. I added a house in each corner with a heart on it for the door to tie in the other rounds. I will sit on it for a while until it is closer to the mailing date.

Thanks to my DH who held this up so I could take pictures. He is my design wall.

sewbizgirl 08-24-2020 03:58 PM

Wow Mary! I love that!!! What a creative design popped out of your head. Wish I had a head like that. It looks so gorgeous. You killed it, Thank you.

This is Round 3, btw....

Bugaroo 08-24-2020 04:18 PM

Wonderful Mary! So bright and colorful!

carriem 08-24-2020 04:33 PM

Bugaroo--my design wall isn't so fancy but sometimes I wish it was. I have foam insulation and then covered it with flannel backed table cloth material (flannel side out so fabric will stick to it).

Mary--your border is great!! Way to tie all the elements together. https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/heart.gif

I might get to the quilt shop Thursday, but probably not until next week. My idea is coming together for jaba's next round...once I have all the fabrics I'll do some test blocks...

Cortisone shot Wednesday in my thumb...not sure how long it will take for it to start working...

Mona G 08-24-2020 05:23 PM

Maryb, your round is great.

Iceblossom 08-25-2020 06:27 AM

Well, I timed out trying to say how wonderful I think Mary's round is. I'll just keep it brief. Just love everything about it and appreciate the nod to the house/heart in the corners while playing with all that color and still the little squares of black and just -- well, I'm getting wordy again :)

travelinggramma 08-25-2020 07:32 AM

MaryB - that round is awesome. When you all are done with it I will send you my address and you can mail it to me!!

NEWS: Bugaroo's quilt that was mailed in WY on Aug 3rd has been located in Fort Worth, TX and of course is still in transit!

jaba 08-25-2020 07:43 AM

The postmaster called me this morning, I think I was driving her crazy with all my calls. She sent an e-mail to every distribution center and asked them to please hunt for the package. Guess it paid off for sure, at least they found it and now I feel much better....lots of relief!

Have been loving how this row has been going on. Three corners flowed so well- and than I get the fourth!! I have some picking to do today!

sewbizgirl 08-25-2020 08:13 AM

That looks great, TG. I'm sure you'll get that corner figured out. Is this round 4?

Bugaroo 08-25-2020 08:25 AM

Wonderful news .... so glad it was found! Thank you Jaba and Travelinggramma!

I received Travelinggramma's quilt yesterday. Oh my gosh! It is so vibrant. The pictures do not do it justice. It is so much brighter in person. BUT I am stumped. Of course what I had planned will not work. So I am at the mulling stage... again! I'm thinking greens but no solid ideas have formed yet.

Travelinggramm, love how Carrie's quilt is coming along. You are quick!

travelinggramma 08-25-2020 08:39 AM

SewBiz - Yes this is the fourth round. I wasn't planning on doing it but when I found the pattern AND the right material and I had some time, well I went for it. It will get in line again after I get Bugaroo's center.

Bugaroo - I have faith in you - you can do it!

A new Boomerang Friendship Swap has been started by JaniceMc if anyone wants to join in. Seeing all your work here I can certainly vouch for you!

Rebaquilts 08-25-2020 10:12 AM

Maryb and TG, wow. Those borders are awesome. This is turning out just fantastic borders. I'm so impressed with the creativity! Hugs all!

carriem 08-25-2020 12:52 PM

Travelinggramma---Love how you tied your border together with my original center! My daughter says I need to use that border again on another quilt. :)
