Macybaby, I like the close up. It really shows the details of the fabric. So pretty as they really bring more colors. I like it.

givio 07-27-2020 05:00 PM

Macybaby, Your close-up is appreciated. It shows the background print better. Nice choice of background fabric!

sewbizgirl 07-27-2020 09:19 PM

Thanks for the pics, Macybaby. Looking good!

Iceblossom 07-28-2020 07:01 AM

Had a totally non-fabric day yesterday, hubby and I went for a long day road trip. The main purpose was mostly to take the dogs on an extended car trip and they did great. We got two of the (three) dogs earlier this year when my bonded dog lost his other half, and my new little guys owner had died. Basically these new dogs are my dog's dogs... Before now the longest ride the dogs had ever been on was the one coming home from their previous house. I've had two dogs in a row that didn't like car rides -- didn't know that was even possible.

Hubby home today, so that mean tomorrow I'll be able to layout my round, my layout space is the bed in which my hubby is currently sleeping.

Hope you are all doing well, it's quite hot here for us and pretty miserable without AC. My Tuesday group will have our morning garden party and then all go inside for the rest of the day.

jaba 07-28-2020 08:33 AM

Bugaroo, working on your center today. Have a couple of ideas and will see which one works out the best

Iceblossom 07-29-2020 05:34 AM

Woohoo, hubby back to work and I'm back to sewing. Hope to get my layout done today and start putting the round together. Goal is to finish this week, show to my Tuesday group and mail to Mary next Tuesday/Wednesday -- she said she is ready for it.

I love my husband and I love spending time with him -- I'm just not used to it. Mostly he works 6 days a week, 10 hours a day, so I am accustomed to having most of the day without distractions.

carriem 07-29-2020 05:58 AM

Macybaby, I really like your use of fabrics! Can't wait to see it all done.

I went to the orthopedic surgeon yesterday for my wrist...now I have to wear a more restrictive brace for the next 3 weeks (as close to 24/7 that I can). I *am* going to sew the next 3 weeks!! I'll be sure to get my round on and send in the next couple weeks. Just have to take more breaks...

Bugaroo 07-29-2020 12:56 PM

Jaba, can't wait to see it. Such wonderful work in these groups!

Carriem, be a good patient! It will only take longer if you don't take care of yourself.

Iceblossom 07-30-2020 03:51 AM

Good morning everyone, I got my layout done and am about to start putting things together. It's going to be a nice morning of sewing before it gets hot. I blame it on growing up in Alaska, but I don't deal with heat at all well.

Take care of yourself, Carriem, I still haven't gone in for my knee x-ray because it's sort of good enough for now, but I know I need to start getting it taken care of, I just don't want to sit in the waiting room right now.

Rebaquilts 07-30-2020 04:36 AM

givio's border

I have Givio's border partially pieced and I'm about 6" shy of enough border background fabric. So I'll have to so some seam ripping and replacing, the corners will be different, but it looks great so far. The fabric is from the 90s so it is highly unlikely I'll be able to find an additional 6" to finish. Oh well, this kind of thing forces creativity!

I want you all to know how grateful I am that you are joining me and all of us in this endeavor. I started a project with COVID to revive my quilt studio. I moved in my divorce 12 years ago and my ex literally threw my sewing studio in the garage of the new house. I've not had the mental energy to tackle it as it was really bad juujuu for me. With COVID, I did some meditating, and waa-laaa......I've switched the bedroom layout of my house, moved the studio into the large former master bedroom, and have been slowly moving my stuff in there. That is how this round robin idea started, I joined the quilting board and asked you all to join me in this round robin. Very spiritual thing for me. Sadly, while moving my stash inside from the bin, I discovered this week that have zero yellows, reds or oranges in my stash, they were all destroyed as they were not put in the plastic bin, they were put in two paper bags and got wet and moldy. Have 3 drawers filled with browns, blues, greens, purples and whites. So if any of you have any of these colors you might have too much of, I'll take scraps (literally) LOL. Then I'll have to start rebuilding my stash (oh no, an excuse for fabric shopping) :-)

Hugs all,

Rebecca

Macybaby 07-30-2020 05:46 AM

Rebecca, I've got quite a bit of red and orange in my stash, so I can probably share. When I moved in December, I packed up over 50 boxes of fabric, and have vowed that I will not have near that to move when I retire in 8 years.

I've been contemplating Carrie's quilt, and decided that they yellow and green inner squares aren't working, I think a brighter yellow would work, and then maybe just light purple for the rest. - and I'm also changing the inner dark green triangle so the line between the rows is not so definite.

Mona G 07-30-2020 05:54 AM

Rebecca,
I have some yellow I could send to trade for some green.

Rebaquilts 07-30-2020 09:00 AM

Mona, I'll p.m. you with some pics of my green stash so you can take your pick of what I have, I'll take pics tonight for you. My green stash is a full drawer and some. Thanks so much!!

Rebaquilts 07-30-2020 09:02 AM

Macybaby, thanks so much. Do you need anything? I have a lot of yardage of vintage Barbie (90s) fabric, and some nice backing fabrics as well, a nice piece of mottled gray for a backing. Or I can take pics of other fabric and let you know what is in my stash so you can pick ;-) Hugs hugs hugs!!

lm not too picky when it comes to green, haha.

givio 07-30-2020 05:13 PM

Rebecca, I thought your name was 'Reba,' like the country singer Reba McEntire! :-) I'm sorry if I called you by the wrong name! About your 6" short of background fabric-- don't seam rip on my account! I'm totally fine with you using something that doesn't match. Some similar fabric would be absolutely fine. :-)

Ok, my round 2 is finished, so that's Bonnie's center and Rebecca's round -- I'm still getting used to real names! (I am Caroline IRL but have been Iceb so long some people call me that too.) Mary says she is ready and so I will mail out Tuesday afternoon after my group, or Wednesday morning (a lot depends on how hot it is). My Tuesday group is getting a lot of vicarious fun and loves to see the centers and rounds. Current size is 40" (finished) square.

Rebecca developed to a good way to spread our 6 names around a circle in a square and my little State hearts should be correct and in the correct place. Of all the fabrics I started pulling early that were "brights and black" only one made it in the final version. The 4th of July heart was indeed pieced on 4th of July (not that 3 seams deserves much credit).

I had some fabric I was already sending to Rebecca and will be adding some extras to help her stash gaps. I'll go back and look through at who needs or wants what, but one thing I have is plenty of fabric and 95% of it I'm willing to share. We just don't mention my special treasures... So if anyone is needing something, whether for this round robin or something else, let me know. Easy enough to shove more fabric in an envelope/box if I'm going to the post office anyway.

Mona G 07-31-2020 06:04 AM

Ice that is beautiful.

maryb119 07-31-2020 06:53 AM

Iceblossom!! That is amazing!!! I love bright colors so I will have to figure out what to add next. Yes I am ready for it so I will watch for it in the mail.

I just have to write in the journal and I can mail Reba's center on to LeeAnn next week.

carriem 07-31-2020 07:13 AM

Well, I might have cut a little fabric yesterday and sewn a few 4-patches...I went slow, took lots of breaks. After a nap I am going to do a few more... Thanks Bugaroo for the reminder to take it easy! I really am trying, it just gets so boring.

Love seeing everyone's progress!!!

Iceblossom, that is fantastically bright and wonderful! Goes so well with the theme.

Carriem, glad you are taking it easy. Recovery is painfully slow but so worth it on the other end. No worries.

This is my class quilts. The Red/Gray/White is Cindy's, the instructor, Old fashion pattern and I have 2 more weeks of the class to go and it will be finished! The Gingerbread quilt (I"m making 2, one for each of my children) is Cindy's Evergreen pattern. The class I'm taking for it is in depth quilting skills called Fab15. Each month we cover one skill set and then use that skill to make part of the quilt. Wonderful learning but lots of work.

travelinggramma 07-31-2020 09:08 AM

Iceb - love the fussy cut hearts - what is a town without love!!
Bugaroo - you have alot of rounds going on at one time. Beautiful and isn't it wonderful to be learning as you go!

Now that the grands left I am staying cool and working on the round. My grandaughter is very artistic and has an eye for color. She helped me pick out all the matching (and we laughed at my idea of matching) colors. A little math is in order but am happy with it.
DH and I are going for a ride to Jerome to our favorite restaurant for lunch today. Will be hot there too - but will be relaxing.
Carrie- we are all way ahead of schedule. Do what you can without making yourself worse.

Mona G 07-31-2020 10:12 AM

Probably not sewing today, hubby and I are gonna take the convertible out for a ride.

sewbizgirl 07-31-2020 10:25 AM

Thank you Ice! The hearts round is great! Very colorful, like my center. You did a great job. I love how our quilts are coming together!

Reba, how are you doing with yours? Let me know when you get it done... I planned to mail the one I have completed (LeeAnn's center) to you next week.

Bugaroo, your quilts are lovely. Thanks for sharing them with us.

carriem 07-31-2020 02:05 PM

I think I got enough 4-patches made today (48...started them yesterday)...next will be adding corners to all of them...

sewbizgirl 07-31-2020 02:45 PM

I'm sewing little girl dresses today. On Wednesday my son's house caught fire and the fire destroyed the entire upstairs. (Water from the fire hoses destroyed the downstairs). My DIL and baby granddaughter got out, but all of Millie's clothes and toys are gone. So I've been making some dresses for her, on the double!
Glad my quilt round is done so I have nothing else to work on but clothes for Millie.

We are so thankful the kids and grandbaby are all safe and unharmed.

I'm glad they are OK! Material things can be replaced but people can't. Little dresses are fun to sew and don't take too long.

I must be to tired Bugaroo, I can't get the pic to post. I'll try again tomorrow

jaba 07-31-2020 05:12 PM

Finally, let me know if I need to change it for you, not a problem. Have to add a note to your journal and pack it up. Will send when travelinggramma is ready for it

maryb119 07-31-2020 05:23 PM

Great job, jaba!!

givio 07-31-2020 05:33 PM

Bugaroo, I like your fabric/colors better than the Evergreen one.
Two more rounds done, great work girls! :-)

sewbizgirl 07-31-2020 08:15 PM

I love your round, Jaba! Beautiful colors and design.

Iceblossom 08-01-2020 04:19 AM

Just me checking in for the day. I spent a bit of time yesterday cleaning up after myself instead of jumping into the next project. It was a good thing to do! Was getting a bit deep in the cutting fluff...

I'll be making the units needed for the Frolic UFO I agreed to finish and by the time I do that it will be just about time to get my next round. I'll admit -- I've got no ideas on what to do yet when that comes to me but I'm turning over a few thoughts.

Today I'm picking up a vintage machine I got from an Auction site. It's cool, but I just need the foot pedal. I had a replacement vintage foot put on my Remington and it was doing ok with masks, but when I sewed for an extended period the pedal started making scary crackling noises and I unplugged it from the wall and just don't feel safe with it. As ratty as the top of the case is, it's better than the case I currently have which is held together with tape and good luck, don't know if it will fit or not but chances are good it will.
https://maxsold.maxsold.com/auction/...ine-a-2172614/

This is the first time I've won a bid through this site, I've bid on many things but I'm cheap :) I first found them about a year ago through a posting on Craig's List. Typically I can find this sort of machine at the thrift stores for about $10-20, but machines were snatched up for mask making and the thrift stores have been closed for the last couple of months.

They specialize in estate type sales, pictures are posted and bids are made. The money is collected through the site, nothing will change hands today other than the merchandise. If you bid and don't pick-up, you are out the money and not allowed to bid through the site again. Lots of directions on proper mask wearing and safety precautions -- I have an assigned 5 minute time slot to pick up my purchase.

givio 08-01-2020 05:28 AM

That's cool you found an online auction site that is near where you live so you don't have to pay shipping. I like your machine. It looks like the vintage mine is. Mine is a mauve/pink color and a Kenmore and in a nifty cabinet with a chair included.

Iceblossom 08-01-2020 06:20 AM

I don't feel bad about taking the foot pedal off a broken machine in a broken case, I'm attached to my Remington (same era in the dual beige tones) more than fixing up this machine but I'll offer the body to my sewing repair guy because it does have a good look and just needs a cleaning, belt and now foot pedal :p The repair guy would have certainly replaced it had I asked him to, and the problem only became apparent on a long sustained seam (putting together a back) so I'm sure he checked it. But they've been so busy and the only reason I had him do it before is because I didn't have access to any old machines with the thrift stores closed, I rather like doing the work myself. If I was wanting a good machine, there is a lovely Kenmore?/Singer? in a stand probably 60s/70s with accessories current price under $10 also near by, but I'd feel bad taking just the foot pedal off something like that, besides not the right vintage.

The way this site works is it is pick up only, no shipping. It is the responsibility of the buyers to bring their own boxes, packing materials, etc. It's sort of a hybrid between ebay and craig's list with no cash on anyone, you can do your own photos or you can hire people to do it, is often estates. The site takes a small commission/charge for the hosting and technology.

travelinggramma 08-01-2020 08:25 AM

Jaba -wowser. you always amaze me. Your sense of color and style changes the whole quilt and makes it awesome. You can mail to me anytime. I am not going anywhere now.

Jaba - I really like the round you added to Bugaroo's quilt! it's so fun to see the rounds as they progress. And since you are wrapping up that one, I've got Carrie's ready to ship off to you as soon as you are ready for it.

Here is Carrie's quilt with the round I added.

I'm going to take a break and pull weeds for a while, I find that one of the most relaxing things, and I get to enjoy looking at all the pretty flowers that are blooming right now.

maryb119 08-01-2020 10:46 AM

Great job, macybaby!!

carriem 08-01-2020 10:47 AM

Macybaby...great job!! I really like the break of the little white/teal triangles between the borders.

What a fun quilt this is turning out to be! :) The cabbage leaf/flower corners are so vibrant (purple is a favorite color of mine) and now another round on too....yay! Can't wait to see what gets added next.

Not sure if I'll get a chance to do any sewing this weekend. I helped with some yard work this morning, so should probably rest my wrist the rest of the day...trying so hard to be good.
