Wow! Iceblossom, I hope you are safe with the fires. I have been watching them on the news. 2020 has been a bad year for all of us. I hope 2021 will be better.

LeeAnn, I mailed the next center to you this morning. I was downtown running errands and the post office was on my list. Please let me know when I gets there safely.

givio, your center has not let me know what it needs yet but I have it hanging in my sewing room. Sometimes, I have to look at it a while before it reveals the next step.

Here is a peek at what I have started for jaba's border.... I am debating between just a piano key or alternating piano key with a block I found called "crow's beak"....kind of want to go simple, but then I keep seeing all your great borders and don't want to disappoint. Thoughts?

By the way, as this popped up and I see my RR quilt I just want to say I *love* the piano key border on my quilt and the "stop" it gave for the eye before the next border was added!!!!https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/heart.gif

LeeAnn 09-10-2020 12:05 PM

Ok Mary, sounds good. I will be out of town til Tues or Wed. but I will have my daughter keep a check on my house and pick it up when it arrives.

LeeAnn 09-10-2020 12:09 PM

Hi Trish, I mailed the top your way today. They said it would arrive on Monday but I won't hold my breath. The tracking number is 9505 5116 2796 0254 4741 30. Thanks so much for posting pictures of the tops I send you. Many blessings and have a great weekend everyone.

Bugaroo 09-10-2020 02:38 PM

Carriem, I like the break from the darker row. It gives a good break. : )

B

My feelings on that are that you only get one chance to put your artistic input into each of these quilts. Just do your best effort and I'm sure it won't disappoint.

you won’t disappoint me, love your idea for the next border. I like to have those “eye resting spots” in quilts, sometimes they get to busy in my opinion. I think I fell a little harder than what I thought. I’m still very sore and the weak legs have not gone away. This break from quilts is good right now. Hopefully another day or two I’ll feel safe going downstairs. Looking forward to getting a round from Macy.
I need to get lots of fabric put away so I have a clean work space, like a fresh start:)

Mona's quilt is packed up and ready for it's next stop.

this pic was taken before the quilt was trimmed to size.

Macybaby 09-11-2020 03:52 AM

It's fun watching how all the quilts are coming together. I like looking at all of them, and sometimes I don't even realize I'm looking at mine, so I may not comment as much about it as a should. I am loving this whole process, and it will be fun when mine makes it's way back to me so I can see it in it's full glory. Each round adds a different dimension to the quilt, and it's very fun.

LAF2019 09-11-2020 04:00 AM

love how that came together, macybaby!

maryb119 09-11-2020 04:45 AM

Macybaby!!! WOW WOW WOW!!!! Amazing!!! Love the embroidery! Great job!

carriem 09-11-2020 04:47 AM

Macybaby---the tree, leaves and flowers...even the owl all are great on Mona's quilt!!

Bugaroo 09-11-2020 04:50 AM

Oh Macybaby, it is just wonderful. So much detail. It definitely looks like a quilt hanging on a tree. Great job!

Iceblossom 09-11-2020 05:09 AM

Love seeing your addition, Macybaby! I really like how we get the whole world of quilting in such a fun piece. Such differences and creative minds all unified in one project. Who would have guessed in the beginning what would be now?

This is such a treat to see the quilts grow, back in the old days you sent out your project out and hoped for the best six months later... I love seeing our different visions, interests, machines, skill sets, all combine. I think everyone is conscious of what has gone on before and filled with wonder at the ideas of what will happen afterwards.

I enjoy group projects but this is my first round robin. I admit that I felt a lot of stress and tension and anxiety the first couple of months, that is unusual for me. Worked through that and am feeling pretty joyful -- well, other than worrying about whether I'm about to ruin someone's project or whether I already have. That's still going to happen. I'm still putting my workmanship out there to be seen, trust me -- it's much better hidden on the back side. That's going to happen. But I'm trying to do my best for the top as I see it.

With my top, I wanted something that didn't look like what i usually do -- and I'm getting that in so many ways. I had very few ideas of what to do with my block and no concept of the finished project. All I can say is that I love what's been done so far and am looking forward to the next few rounds. I appreciate the time and effort and fabric each of you/us in the group have put in. This project happened as a good thing in a bad time and I'm grateful for all of you.

sewbizgirl 09-11-2020 09:49 AM

That tree was a great idea, macybaby!

I was looking at Bonnie Hunter's Unity quilt, and it looks basically like a RR quilt. The rounds are all great. I can see any of them on our RR quilts.... Lots of good ideas.

travelinggramma 09-11-2020 11:24 AM

Oh Macy Macy Macy - I am thankful I do not have to follow that - but I know I will be adding the last row - oh my! Every thought I ever had with her center went right out the window. It amazes me to see how you saw the squirrels climbing a tree! - will I ever look at it and check the tail?? Simply inspiring.

Macybaby 09-12-2020 06:44 AM

I've got Mona's top sent of to Jaba, and I should be receiving travelinggramma's top today. I'm pretty excited about working on this one, not sure what I'm going to do. I'm thinking of doing something that repeats to look of the second round. I did a "Snake River" quilt a while back and really like the long strip with the square that gives the illusion of a curved line.

LeeAnn's top in the mail

Hi everyone! LeeAnn's center is in the mail! Here it is. Just a bit of insider background, I am 1/2 Dutch, so I was soooo happy to get tulips in this round, we go to the tulip festival every year in Holland Michigan and I have a pair of wooden clogs ;-) My mom's family is from a town called Elspeet (outside of Nunspeet), Gelderland, Netherlands, so I love the movie, A Knight's Tale with Heath Ledger (I know where Gelderland is!!!!) LOL. I used a brush away foundation and a singer spartan zig zag machine that worked like a charm for the delicate applique. The peacock is feeding his baby in the center block, and he is feeding it a murder hornet, an homage to our other group with the bee quilt top, I thought it was a good joke and would help date the quilt. As for the daffodils, in the spring we Dutch kind of go a little bonkers over bulb flowers. I have several varieties of daffodils that smell like heaven itself, and bring bunches in the house to make the house smell great, so I used the daffodils around the tulips. You've been kissed by a Dutch girl, LeeAnn! Hugs all and have a wonderful weekend!

Rebaquilts 09-12-2020 08:23 AM

Amazing work and love these ideas!

Macybaby, love the tree treatment, it looks fantastic! And Sewbiz, love your use of color in your border, very thoughtful and ties in together so well! Hugs!!

givio 09-12-2020 08:26 AM

What a nice story to share, Rebecca! Lee Ann will remember it as she looks at her quilt. :-) Every night and every morning I look at my 9patch quilt that was quilted by a QB member that is a dear friend, and where I received the 9patches through a swap on the Board. Each block is only 2 prints put together, but I like to look at the combination and remember that someone did that for me. Your outside border in various colors is a nice touch!

Rebaquilts 09-12-2020 08:43 AM

Thanks Givio, I was going to add a few more log-cabin-ey strips on the outside, to mimic the center, but I was pushing 6" and figured I would leave that up to IceBlossom. So without the log-cabin extra strips, it might just be mimic'ing SewBiz's strips. Either way, I was glad I found some of the green polka dot so not all of the birds were flying. Hugs!

Iceblossom 09-12-2020 09:56 AM

Oh what fun is coming my way! I have a couple things in mind and maybe the fabric I bought will be used...

Just talked to my son, we are going ahead with the little family party for my grandson's 1st birthday at the other grandparents house today. The air quality is really bad, don't know if you've seen the satellite shots of the smoke coming up from California and joining up with the Oregon fires, plus our own local fires but it is beyond hazy today.

Not quite where you need headlights in the day, but it is definitely yellow outside, and across the street is getting fuzzy. I'm a bit tight in the chest but it's not so bad.

travelinggramma's top arrived safely - it's now hanging on my design wall waiting for inspiration to hit.

Dug out the quilt I started a while back and got the applique finished. I use the appliquick method and I think I'm starting to get the hang of it. It's sewn down with invisible thread.

I have the outer blocks complete, so now I can add them to the center and have a completed floppy.

sewbizgirl 09-12-2020 01:17 PM

Wow, that's a gorgeous appliqued quilt center, Macy! Very Fall-like.

Bugaroo 09-12-2020 01:20 PM

Rebaquilts, that is spectacular! Such a wonderful way to personalize your work... great memory to have!

Macybaby, that is lovely applique and colors. So pretty.

maryb119 09-12-2020 02:21 PM

Reba! Beautiful addition! It is amazing!! Love the story to go wit it.

macybaby...wow again!! great applique and amazing block! Please post it when you get it all put together!

LAF2019 09-12-2020 03:28 PM

Love what you did with that border, Reba! and the personalization is so special

Grandma’sgirl 09-12-2020 07:20 PM

Hello fellow quilters,
I just wanted to let you guys know that I have been following your progress and am simply flabbergasted, gobsmacked, and amazed at what you guys are doing. Your creativity, your skills, and your ideas have inspired me so much. I have learned so much from this group. I used to think that the borders were the most boring part of the quilt, an after thought, almost. Was I ever wrong!
Like I said, just watching you guys has taught me so much. When I have had time, I had gone back and read from the beginning of this project. I felt like I was watching a quilting ‘reality’ show, where everyone was so supportive and encouraging of each other. This environment has led to some of the most amazing works of arts and craftsmanship being done right before our eyes! Thanks so much. Congratulations on your accomplishments both individually and as a group.

sewbizgirl 09-12-2020 08:40 PM

Wow, thank you Grandma's Girl! What an encouraging note from you.

Anyone can start another RR at any time. Just get permission from PatriceJ (board supervisor) to post a solicitation post, asking for people who would like to do an RR. All you need is 6 people because a center and 5, 6" rounds is usually large enough. Even 5 people can work. If anyone wants to start one but doesn't know how a RR goes, I would be happy to fill you in. PM me and I will talk you through it. Seems like we have more than enough interest to start another group.

givio 09-13-2020 05:00 AM

Grandma'sgirl, Welcome to the Board! You look sorta new here, just since March. :-) Thanks for joining in our thread and I'm glad you are enjoying it. If you want to just browse through the pictures of the growing quilts, you can see them in the album I'm making as we go along.

Iceblossom 09-13-2020 06:11 AM

I'm hoping everyone is having a good day.

The smoke here is awful, at 4:00 pm while we didn't need lights on outside, you could stare directly at the sun which looked like an orange frisbee in the sky.

I'm sure others will want to argue, but I have the most amazing grandbaby!! He is such a little person already, he very much takes after his mama in looks, but it is so funny to see my son's facial expressions come out.

My daughter-in-law's family is wonderful and quality people full of love and I am full of hope for the future. So far Leon is the only member of his generation on my side of the family, but he will have cousins and childhood friends a-plenty.

I know that so many of my friends' households and children aren't doing so well. We are so lucky that my son has kept his job this whole time and while I have very few positives to say about this past year, it allowed all of them, particularly my son, to have almost all of that special first year together. He's been doing full time dad detail while working from home since Liz returned to work a couple of months ago.

carriem 09-13-2020 07:17 AM

Just wanted to check in and say that I have made my final decision on my border for jaba's center and will work on that this week. :)

Great to see new borders being added pretty regularly!!

Iceblossom 09-14-2020 09:02 AM

According to the tracking/post office, LeeAnn's center coming to me from Rebecca should be arriving any time now!

How exciting!! I'll get to open it up and bring it to my Tuesday group tomorrow and be able to really start thinking about it.

Still packing and getting the house ready for our trip. Air quality still bad out here, I posted pictures (on page 3) from my back yard in this thread yesterday:
https://www.quiltingboard.com/person...s-t312438.html
You can see how dry the yard is, to be truthful most of us here do have brown lawns in summer -- but we have gorgeous green lawns in December!

WOW!!! I love it, can't wait to see where it goes from here.

I spent most of the weekend assembling my husbands new desk since he will be working form home for the foreseeable future.
I also finished the wonky log cabin donation quilt top.
My husband is only working Tues, Wed and Thurs the next couple of weeks so my sewing time has decreased.

Mona G 09-14-2020 02:18 PM

Stay safe Ice.

givio 09-14-2020 08:13 PM

LeeAnn, I received Rebecca's top today. Thanks! I plan to post a picture of it later this week, along with a picture of the round I'm doing. I have an appointment after work on Tuesday and feel a little swamped with what's going on here.

Remember girls, we all will need to plan carefully for our Round 4 as it will take longer to sew!

Iceblossom 09-15-2020 08:05 AM

My package did arrive yesterday, just as we were leaving the house to run errands. Among which was going to pick up our coolers from the in-laws. Smoke level means time to drive with lights on now.

We had to move our Tuesday group to outside because of Covid, but we cancelled for today. Between lungs and eyes, even those who don't normally have issues are having them now. I don't notice the smell any more, but I'm going to keep the package sealed under after my trip. Bummer, wanted to open it and show it to the girls, but think it is best to just control myself.

With the Canadian fires a couple years ago we had a lot more ash. This smoke has traveled far enough we don't get much residue but you can sure see it. We did have a couple sprinkles of rain yesterday but not enough to either water the plants or clear the sky. They are hoping for real rain at the end of the week and expect that to help quite a bit. Air quality alert is currently issued through Thursday -- which coincides with the hoped for rain -- and my trip departure!

Carriem, excited to see what you come up with for my quilt. Seems like forever since I've seen it.
Macy, no center yet, maybe it will come today.

LeeAnn 09-16-2020 11:37 AM

Hi everyone, I'm back from a quick trip to our cabin in the woods. The cabin needed new floors so I went with my husband so it was a work trip. We made great strides. I returned home to several great things, one was seeing my quilt top that pleases me greatly. Wonderful job Reba, I love the story behind my round. I also received my next round. I'm telling everyone....the pictures do not do Sewbizgirl's quilt top justice. It is stunning. Thank you everyone for your hard work. This has been a wonderful group.

Mona G 09-16-2020 12:35 PM

TG you can send the next round whenever you sre ready as I should be done with
