Hummingbirds
Wow Bugaroo, I love the hummingbirds, the spiky triangular design really ties in well with the overall piece, and you are right, the colors wash out from a distance, that purple is so pretty. I think that is a problem in taking photos from far away, I received Iceblossom's center and the colors look so much better in person. Hugs!

OK, I decided to just go for it and stop moving things around. Here is the final result. I haven't done applique for several years it was kind of fun.
It's getting harder to fit the quilts in one photo so I took a couple closeups also. CarrieM let me know when you are ready for me to mail. |
Wow! You have me stumbling out of my lurker arm chair!
|
Mona...that is perfect!!!
|
Mona, that dark blue is a perfect tie-in with the center.

Wow! Lovely work all! And I agree about it getting harder to take pictures.
Once I quit my pity party, I've had a nice couple of days working on my round. There was actually blue sky today by the end of Tuesday group and we have a plan/place to meet next week if it is raining as expected. Lungs are still congested but nothing really to but wait it out at this point. So when I saw this in progress coming up to me, I was thinking that I had a pretty cool opportunity to offset it even more with a 12" border on the top and one side, Was thinking basically lone star segments that would meet at the corner and look like wings, either bluebird wings or maybe white on white angel wings with blue background. Oh, it was cool and had I gotten the top at a different round I might have gone that way, but with only one more round remaining, I decided to leave the top easier to be added to. My other thought was I wanted to wrap a ribbon around it and tie it up in a bow. Was considering a traditional ribbon border, but elected to try to keep with the bird theme. Those are actually Wild Goose units and not arrows. Six of them, for the group, all of them going the same direction but not quite... each side is slightly different. I rarely buy new fabric any more but I ordered these ahead of time from Jordan Fabrics since they weren't going to be open for me to go there live on my birthday trip, even though there I was in Grants Pass and we actually sat in their parking lot... From Moda "Flights of Fancy" the white with tiny birds and the watercolor (also with very hard to see birds) are companion fabrics. I just thought they were sweet and lovely. The blue was from stash. This round's song was Somewhere over the Rainbow/What a Wonderful World by Israel "Iz" Kamakawiwo'ole, otherwise known as the Hawaiian version. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U-Ooxpz0Eqk it's other song was Blue Skies, here by Willie Nelson https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sGZDwxnjG1g |
That is lovely Ice.

Great round, iceblossom!!! I will have to do some thinking about what I am going to add to it. Hard to believe the last round is next.
I loe both those two songs you mentioned. I've seen Willie Nelson in concert several times. |
Iceblossom, I love the round you did on my quilt! It seems to pull it together without being busy! Thanks so much, it's very pretty!

Must be the day to finish borders! I got mine done on Macybaby's quilt today too!
Mona, you can mail any time. :) I am really not sure what I will do with Bugaroo's quilt yet...I am sure once I have it in hand it will come to me. |
Lovely fabrics, IB. Isn't it amazing how each new border completely changes the quilt?
Carrie, love your border. It reminds me of stitches of ribbon around the quilt. Good job, everyone! We are almost there. |
Wow! It really is quit a day for finishes. Carriem, love the blue and all the details.
Ice, lovely way to show movement and again, I love the colors and detail. Mona, I agree with previous comments, the dark blue really sets off the gold and honey comb. Thank you. It's beautiful and I can't wait to see it in person. |

oh! That's funny! stumbling out of the lurker arm chair! lol
Bugaroo, again, as I said before, nice job on those half stars. That was a great idea! Ice, That blue background was an excellent choice. It brings out the center and ties in so well. That watercolor fabric is beeeautiful! carriem, you did the same with the blue background, what a good choice that was. The calm plain color looks good after the busy print of the previous round. Mona, your choice to leave all the multiple colors and stick with blue and gold and browns looks like a good idea to me. A nice balance. Great job, girls! |
Lots of great rounds finished today.

Love all the finishes!
Carrie, I like how your round complements the others. I'm hoping to start on travelinggramma's top next week. Here is a sneak peak at what has been taking up my sewing time lately. The components are assembles and I'm putting together the four corners right now. The fun part will be fitting them together with the large four pointed start that goes in the middle and extends out to the edges of the diagonal border. I've managed to use up all of my border fabric and the coordinating print. One of the hardest parts of this is that I decided to have the outer square and diagonal borders interlock - did not realize what a pain that would be when I designed it that way. And the quilt is not square, so I've got to pay attention to that too. |
Wow... that's a beauty, Cathy.

Hi gang, wanted to let you know that Jaba's son Greg has posted news of her in the Boom threads. He said she has had three strokes in the past week!! She is currently in the hospital. Please keep her and her family in your prayers. If you have anything to send to her, just hang on to it and contact Travelingrama to see what she wants to do with it. Luckily we are close to the end, so there won't be an abundance of extra work on any one person. If you'd like to volunteer to finish Jaba's commitment to the RR group, please let Travelingrama know.
Thank you for your kindness and understanding! |
Hello group. This is Greg Ellis, son of Jan Alexander (JABA). She wanted me to post to the group that she has the squares built but they are not sewn to the quilt. Not sure when this may get completed as she has had 3 strokes in the last week and is currently laid up in the hospital. Can someone complete this if it can get mailed out to someone? Thank you for your understanding.

Prayers for jaba.....

Jaba, prayers for you and your family.
|
Yes, praying for Jaba!
|
Oh Jaba. Greg, thank you for letting us know. Please tell your mom not to worry. Her health is the only thing she needs to be working on. Prayers for you and your family.
|
I checked my PM's before reading this thread. That is scary about Jaba! Prayers for her and her family.
Travelinggramma, I was going to ask Jaba if she wanted me to complete an extra round on your quilt for her - so if you'd be ok with that, let me know. |

Prayers, and thanks Macybaby for volunteering to do this. Hugs.

Prayers for Jaba!! Get well soon!

Oh so sorry, of anything at all, this quilt project should not be a cause for concern.
It sounds like it will be handled, but I am also willing to do an extra round. Let us know if there is anything we can do other than keeping her in our thoughts and prayers. |
I thank you all for the offers to help. Fortunately we are on round 4. MacyBaby will be doing round 4 and 5 or whatever she wants to the center she already has. Jaba normally sends it to me - so I was to complete Mona's . I requested that what ever she has to send it to me and I can complete it along with round 5. That should resolve it.
Things like this happen. It is a reminder that we must let someone know who to contact on QB. |
LeeAnn, I mailed givio's quilt top to you today. Please let me know when it gets there. I worry mailing someone else's top. It's pretty rare the something gets lost in the mail but I still worry.
|
Macybaby, I'm ready to send Jaba's center whenever you are. No rush. Just wanted to let you know its available when you're ready.
|
TG, don't worry about doing two rounds If you are not up to it, I was planning on adding to it anyway.
|
hi everyone. JABA's son Greg here again. Mom was transferred to another hospital late last night and was admitted in ICU. still trying to figure out whats going on with her but she will be in better hands in a larger hospital. from information we received today sounds like she may be hospitalized for some time. even after that its going to be a road of recovery. keep her in your thoughts as she has all of you in hers. God Bless

Thank you Greg for keeping us updated. It’s good to know how to pray.
|
Thank you, Greg! Hugs and prayers coming your way.

Mary’s “crop circle” border done
5 Attachment(s)
Hi all, here are photos of the border I just completed. I took inspiration from prior borders. Since the center combined with the first border now reminds me of airplanes and a compass in the middle, I thought that one of the things that airplanes can see clearly is crop circles. I took the first border circles and coalesced them into outer crop circles, inspired by an actual crop circle image I found. Our names are written in a crop circle font, sideways, so that there is hidden meaning. Sewbiz is right, this took much longer to put together because of the size. I used the catterpillar light table and applipops templates in order to make the circles relatively accurate and the bias tape match the font. Hugs all!

Oops? Here is the tops

Finally got the top assembled, now I'm going to get working on TG's round.
I think I may call this one "Never again" lol! This is the center I decided to keep - and I did use up all the border and coordinating fabric I had to go with it. |
