Wow Macy that’s just stunning. It’s almost Moroccan with the deep blue, remind me almos of tiles in Marrakech. Impressive for sure. Hugs!

travelinggramma 10-10-2020 01:40 PM

Reba - wow - the full quilt seems to glow in your picture - and your hidden names - are well hidden - never heard of a cropcircle font
MacyBaby - that quilt is enormous. I can see if it was half that size and the pieces smaller - than maybe I would attempt - but that is way beyond me. I absolutely love the colors and ribbons and well, if it happens to fall into the envelope you send me, that would be fine!!

maryb119 10-10-2020 04:37 PM

Reba! I love it! My grandson has claimed this quilt already. Thanks so much!!!! Love the crop circle! I grew up on a farm so it fits me!

maryb119 10-10-2020 06:09 PM

iceblossom, I got the quilt top in the mail today. I will have to think about this one a bit.

Hello All! I just wanted to check in since I don't remember posting much this week! I have sent on Macybaby's quilt to Bugaroo...should be there early next week.

My MILs surgery went well...it was just all the stuff that happened afterwards to get her settled in a room that took forever. Then Friday was spent waiting and talking to therapists, doctors, etc, etc. She is in the hospital this weekend for sure...either she'll come home early next week or be moved to a rehab center for a couple weeks until she is more balanced. She is 82 and still lives alone, plus walks with a walker so not being able to use 1 arm is really throwing her off.

I did get some fabrics cut for a Disappearing 9-Patch Friday afternoon while hanging out w/my MIL...I had pre-cut strips to width so could easily cut into squares using a small mat/ruler. :) I cut for a 6-Halves Make A Whole quilt too. If MIL goes to a rehab center then I will be going to a day long retreat on Thursday...so wanted to have fabric for a couple quilts ready just in case!!! (if she goes home it will mean PT 3x/wk and with all that running around I'll have to stay home and just sew here)

MaryB, I received the top you sent yesterday. I'm still working on mine and won't mail out until Tues or Wed. I haven't opened the one you sent and I can't wait to see it! I'm pretending it's a Christmas package and I can't open until I ship the one I have. Silly game but makes it more exciting.

LeeAnn 10-11-2020 05:32 PM

Greg, thanks for letting us know about your mother. I will be praying for her and your family. Many blessings and praying for a speedy recovery.

Iceblossom 10-12-2020 04:22 AM

Woohoo for all! Looks like I'm going to have to think about my last round but what fun.

Thank you Greg for the update.

This past weekend was busy in real life, one of those "everything takes longer than you think" so 30 minute trips were 2 hours and so forth. But we got stuff done and had some fun along the way.

Macybaby 10-12-2020 07:23 AM

I got started on the border for Travelinnggramma's quilt. I'm putting the last two borders on, however I decided instead of two 6" borders, I'm doing one 12" border. I'll post a sneak peak when I get home this afternoon.

sewbizgirl 10-12-2020 11:10 AM

Reba, your round on Mary's quilt is so unusual. Good job thinking outside the box. It gives the quilt a whole new look!

BTW, while you still have it, Trisha spells her name T-R-I-S-H-A, not Tricia.

Rebaquilts 10-12-2020 12:06 PM

good timing

Thanks for that, it was perfect timing! I was going to send some blocks to IceBlossom with the box, and now can work on that as well! Hugs!

Macybaby, That sneak peek looks like what Mona did! That will look great, a nice reflection of what went on before.

maryb119 10-12-2020 03:10 PM

Macybaby! I love that one!

oh my. Love it. Colors, a bit scrappy, movement. Thank you, especially since it's so wide

Iceblossom 10-13-2020 06:35 AM

I hope everyone is as happy with their tops as I am with mine. Hard to believe it's almost all over :(

I'm getting pulled in a lot of directions in real life right now, but did want to not complain for a bit. So in good news, lungs are getting better (down to half an hour of coughing in the morning), and I can no longer feel each breath. Still get winded easily but then again, my knee keeps me slow.

It's getting chilly here. Our goal is to have the furnace turned off all during daylight savings time, used to be easier before they changed the dates. I've ordered new furnace filters which should get here today.

Tomorrow I'm going to visit my aunt, will bring lunch with me. I'm thinking pot roast sounds good. But that thunder that just rolled overhead maybe not so much...

Bugaroo 10-13-2020 11:00 AM

Macybaby, very colorful and vibrant!

Carrie, I received the package today! Thank you. I'm going to have to do some thinking on it.

carriem 10-13-2020 05:42 PM

I received Bugaroo's quilt today! It just so happens that I have to go to town tomorrow and I will have time to stop at the quilt shop...I checked out bee fabrics the last time I was there but wanted to have quilt in hand before buying anything. I have a couple ideas...we'll see how it comes together.

Here is my round 4 on Rebaquilts center. My son held it up for the picture and there's not so much light in the room at about 9pm this evening. In person it's brighter and more cheerful. It grew so much-- up to about 70" now! Rebecca sent along fabric to use and it seemed like there wouldn't be enough of the silver background for the last and biggest round, so I chose not to use it. I used a fabric that I had for the background which also has silver, but just not so much silver as the other.

travelinggramma 10-13-2020 06:29 PM

Givio - terrific addition to Reba's quilt.. That is really huge - but it so well put together. The colors have all stayed true.

I received Mona's center in the mail today. Jaba had made blocks that I will measure and see what needs to be done. But let me tell you - this quilt is awesome. The applique, the embroidery, everything - it is not really seen in the picture. I am in awe......just saying.

sewbizgirl 10-13-2020 07:13 PM

That is a beautiful round, Giv! I have been thinking about Delectable Mountains through this whole RR, but they never seemed right on any of the quilts I got. You did a beautiful job of them. Love what you added to her quilt!

Mona G 10-13-2020 07:51 PM

Giv,
I was thinking about doing that border for Carriem quilt also.
Your round turned out great.

Macybaby 10-14-2020 02:25 AM

We must have delectable mountains on the brain! That is what I've been considering for Jaba's quilt for the final border too.

maryb119 10-14-2020 04:20 AM

Great job, givio!!

Rebaquilts 10-14-2020 06:27 AM

thanks!!

Thank you so much for this round! I've been trying to change my profile picture to the quilt top and couldn't figure out how to do it yesterday, so this photo was great timing, I'll try again today. I was ashamed about sending too much fabric, right now it seems I didn't send enough, hahaha!! How big it has grown and wow it looks great! Thanks so much for this beautiful work, and to everyone so far for the beautiful work, it looks great and I love it. Hugs all <3

Givo, that looks so pretty and delicate... just Wow!

Carrie, I am so curious to see how the final round turns out. Thank you in advance... all the rounds have gone way past what I imagined! Guess that's one of the great things about a Round Robin.

Question???? Way back early in the posting, size was talked about and a general size by round was given (see below). Since this is my first RR, I was wondering how strict that size is. Especially for the final 5th round. Does it matter or should we contact the originator and see what they prefer?

travelinggramma 10-14-2020 07:50 AM

Bugaroo - that chart gave an idea if everyone did the maximum 12". Some did 6". And some didn't even start with the 18" center. I am always amazed on how fast they can grow and change over time.
Feel free to ask any questions during any swap to pm the owner of the material!

I am taking a break and cut out my grandaughters "school clothes". Since she is home schooled, and mom and dad are working from home - they have a rule of no pajamas during the day.....so I am making her school pajamas!

sewbizgirl 10-14-2020 08:59 AM

Group 1 has been adding a 6” border with each round... or the equivalent when turning a quilt on point.

Macybaby 10-14-2020 10:29 AM

One of the biggest problems with adding borders, is that it can be very difficult to get the math to work out for the next border. when we start with 18 and add 12" each border, it's always divisible by both 2 and 3, so you can do a pattern that breaks down into 2" squares, or 1.5" squares finished. It's no fun when you want to do a design and calculate it out so you've got to cut your strips at measures that are 1/16" increment. And when you are doing something with smaller pieces, that 1/16" over 32 strips can really add up!

The easiest way to compensate is to put a filler border in between to rounds, but then sometimes that makes "your" round too small for the design you wanted to do. Other options are putting something else in the corners so it does not matter if the pattern lines up, or putting a modified block in the run that compensates for the differences.

One word of warning, it's really easy to "grow" the quilt the wrong way if you are trying to ease in a border that isn't quite the right size. The next person is going to need to ease it back the other way. If you get several rounds that all are eased "out" you can end up with a quilt that has a significantly different measure across the center than it measures on the edges.

I quilt on an LA and this can be a real nightmare if you don't know ahead of time that the quilt is off. Because to end up square, you've got to ease the fullness out of the outer edge, but if you start with the outer edge smooth, you'll end up with a middle that is going to pull way in on you. It's way easier to quilt a "tent" that has excess in the middle!

Here are the fabrics I bought today...I have a plan (with a couple variations if needed)...we'll see how it all comes together!!

Here is Travelinggramma's quilt. I did a double (12") boarder for me and Jaba, so this one is ready to send home.

I love how this quilt has turned out! Don't have a good place to get a full picture of it, so hopefully these will work.

travelinggramma 10-14-2020 03:51 PM

Macybaby that is amazing.i absolutely love it. I started with a simple center block and you all rocked it beyond belief. Cant wait to see it

maryb119 10-14-2020 04:07 PM

WOW WOW WOW!!!! Macybaby!!! That is an amazing finish to travelinggramm's quilt. I love it!!!

sewbizgirl 10-14-2020 04:35 PM

That is a beautiful final border, Macybaby. Well done you, and everyone in group 2!

givio 10-14-2020 05:56 PM

Macybaby, Outstanding, just outstanding. Yes, well done!

givio 10-14-2020 06:11 PM

Reba, it's the avatar you are looking to change, not the profile pic. Go to the 'User Control Panel' and use the far left column. 'Edit avatar' is there.

carriem, That hexagon print in the golden color was a great find! I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with. :-)
