Autumn Leaves Block Swap- Sign ups close 9/15/2015

Let's stitch a vibrant collection of colorful autumn leaves!

This swap is for 12.5" unfinished (12" finished) blocks.

Leaf patterns your choice. A few to consider are: maple, sugar maple, sweet gum, oak, etc. Lots to choose from!

Blocks to be in sets of 4. Limit of 6 sets per swapper. Total of 24 blocks. All blocks will be swapped out, so make an extra of each design for yourself, if you so choose.

Each set of 4 should be a same design, but the fabrics may vary. *Limit of 2 sets of any design.* Though do change up the colors for each set. Be creative in your color choices! Autumn is a lovely time of year. :)

Please do have good contrast with the leaf and the background.

block backgrounds should be in creams, beiges, lights, etc.

This swap is open to all skill levels.

Be sure to use quality PRE-WASHED 100% cotton fabrics. (NO flannel, homespun, poly-blends, or see-through)

Blocks can be made using traditional piecing, paper piecing, embroidered, appliqued, or combinations thereof.
(If using applique, all pieces must be sewn down in some manner. Please do not use mono-filament thread.)

Please check to make sure your blocks ARE 12.5" square. Please also check for any holes or tears, or inadequate seam allowances. Tidy up the back of block as well.
*If your blocks are too small, they may have to be returned to you unswapped.*

Please, please do make sure that there is an adequate 1/4" seam allowance on your block edges, and that your leaf points do not get lopped off.

Put a small label on each block, including your real name and board name.

For Mailing: please put blocks in a large ziploc baggie along with your name and address on/in the bag. This will help protect your blocks in case your package gets damaged.
Include a USPS money order or cash for $6.10 to cover return postage to you. Blocks will be sent in padded priority flat rate envelopes, with Delivery Confirmation. I get these envelopes free from usps.com.
If proper postage is not sent, your package will wait until adequate funds are received. Please do not send your own envelopes.

Sign ups are open until Sept. 10th, 2015. Blocks need to be TO ME by Sept. 25th, 2015.

Please send me a PM to sign up, so I don't miss you. If you know how many sets you will be sending in, that would be nice to know too!

Basic swap rules may be found here: http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-20154-1.htm

Some block ideas may be found at: www.quilterscache.com, on Pinterest, piecebynumber.com, generations-quilt-patterns.com, equiltpatterns.com, or many other internet sites. Please ask if you need help.

Come and join in with us!

Hi mariposa! What a cool swap idea. Love the whole idea of it. Let me see if I can find something that would work to join, ok?

Mariposa 07-16-2015 04:49 PM

That's great, Red! Nice to hear from you! :)

KLTQuilts 07-16-2015 08:14 PM

Oh, this swap sounds so cool! Count me in Mariposa . . . I truly love fall/autumn and I think I have the fabric in my stash :o

Red, it's nice to see you're joining in on this swap - looks like we have time to get organized and productive :D Now do I look like someone who would wait until the last minute to finish for this swap????? :D:p

Mariposa do you have any links to leaf patters other then the Maple Leaf. I did a quick look and could only find two pieced patterns

**Here are a few sites:

*Quiterscache.com- has Maple Leaf, Ozark Maple Leaf, Sweet Gum Leaf, and the Cactus Flower would work if you use a leaf color for that center triangle. :)

*Generations-quilt-patterns.com- has autumn leaf, maple leaf, maple leaf design, ozark maple leaf, leaf & diamonds.

*dottypat.com- has 3 leaf ones to consider.

*carterquilter.wordpress.com- (don't recall which patterns!)

*terryaskeartquilts.com- has a paper-pieced japanese maple block-fun!

*Do Google "leaf quilt block free patterns" and you can look at a bunch of images of all kinds of beauties! :)

Just wondering here again.... Is the background tan, beiges and lights? It would unify the quilt once they are all set.

*Yes, backgrounds are lights. Creams, beiges, etc. :)

Mariposa 07-17-2015 10:01 AM

*The pretty autumn leaf pattern at generations-quilt-patterns.com is a 10.5" unfinished block. But a small border can be added around to make it a 12.5" block~~

Here's a fun quilt to peek at~

You are so funny girl! Have fun with your blocks. I think I have found at least one set to play with. I just need to go and get a couple beiges from the fabric store. Oh dear... What a chore. Ha ha ha...

jclinganrey 07-19-2015 07:18 AM

I'd like to join the swap! Sounds great.

I've found lots of really cool ideas online. Here's what I have in mind so far:

http://tse1.mm.bing.net/th?&id=JN.Fa...d=1.9&rs=0&p=0

http://tse1.mm.bing.net/th?&id=JN.Je...d=1.9&rs=0&p=0

http://tse1.mm.bing.net/th?&id=JN.xZ...d=1.9&rs=0&p=0

Of course, this last one would be in a 12 1/2" block.

Lstew2212 07-21-2015 02:13 PM

I really like to do paper piecing, so a couple of my sets will be paper pieced blocks. I Have Found Some Great Patterns.

Lstew2212 07-21-2015 02:15 PM

Nice ideas Jane.

Mariposa 07-21-2015 05:04 PM

Jane- thanks for sharing the great pics! :) Fun blocks!!

KLTQuilts 07-22-2015 04:41 PM

Jane - I really like your samples!

Mariposa - thanks for the new websites to check out. I've already been on the Generations site - I like some of their patterns (and have typed out directions for 2 bocks ;) )

Red - sorry I couldn't join you shopping the other day; however, I check my stash and all I have is "whites" so I guess I'll need to make a "quick trip" to the fabric store (yea - sure - be back in a jiffy!!! :D ) but must remember it's only for cream colored fabrics - nothing else . . . promise!!

RedGarnet222 07-25-2015 02:49 PM

I wish I had lots of the girls from the board here to go with us, don't you? How fun would that be?

Kassaundra 07-25-2015 02:59 PM

I made this block for a different swap, wouldn't fit exactly in this swap, but maybe some of you would like to put it in your finished quilts, it is an full autumn tree made w/ hst (and a few squares and rectangles)

Kassaundra 07-25-2015 03:02 PM

I was thinking if I join this swap (seeing if time will allow) I'd use that as the center large square, put the leaf blocks from the swap at the bottom and maybe a swirling flying geese at the top.

RedGarnet222 07-26-2015 08:54 AM

Kassaundra,
First I would like to say I Love your avatar! It is so me in the summer. LOL!
I hope you find the time to join us. It is not only about the blocks, but also about the fun of being in the group of fun girls to chatter and share with.

Yes, that would be soooooo much fun!!

Kassaundra - sure hope you join in; your main block is a great start for your quilt. Of course, with all of us "creative ladies" our sample blocks would truly make your quilt "shine with style" So, come on and join in the fun . . .

terriamn 07-26-2015 12:39 PM

Kassandra hope you join in. Your creativity is always inspiring.

letsquilt 07-27-2015 06:14 AM

I'm trying to decide if I have time for this one, will have to get finished with my Halloween blocks, then vacation, and figure out what blocks I want to do. I do have a friend with a great tree in her back yard that has the prettiest leaves on it. Will have to find out what that is,they would be great for a set.

rwquilts 07-27-2015 07:01 AM

Oh, oh oh! I just saw this swap! I must join in! I must, I must, I must! Love fall and leaves...what a terrific theme Rhonda! :) This will be super fun!

Kassaundra - I'm trying to figure the size of your blocks (of course, I'm not too great figuring out the math - he, he, he). Would you be willing to share the sizing for this pattern? Thank you!

Kassaundra 07-27-2015 01:24 PM

It is 12.5 square, so the hst are 2.5 (unfinished) and the squares the same size, but the rectangles are 2.5 x 4.5. It would be easy to make bigger just increase the hst size.

KLTQuilts 07-28-2015 06:38 AM

Thank you Kassaundra! It sure is a stunning block!

Kassaundra 07-28-2015 08:07 AM

I found myself googling images and patterns for leaves

givio 07-28-2015 05:46 PM

Jane! Love that top block. I don't remember seeing that pattern before-- probably why I like it. :-)

KLTQuilts 07-29-2015 12:33 PM

I found another nice leaf while going through my PDF files this morning. It makes up into an 8-1/2" unfinished square but you could add a border around it to extend to the 12-1/2" block. I tried to "copy" a picture but was unsuccessful :(

Type in the following in your internet search engine: Antoinette Falls
(It's crafted by Linda Ambrosini of Laguana Quilts)

The pdf file came up as "Falling Leaf Table Runner" - QuiltersClubofAmerica.com . . . .

Nice applique leaves...I haven't really found many 12 1/2" sized blocks that I like with the exception of the traditional maple leaf block and I figure most everyone will be doing that one? I've been working on an 8" paper pieced leaf which will have borders added. Is anyone else finding it more difficult to find 12 1/2" unfinished sizes?

Yes, I am "adapting" some of them... :)

I found that site last night late and was going to post the link this morning. lol

QuilterMomma 07-30-2015 03:56 PM

Hello ladies, yes, I am visiting here a bit. I will have to see what my time line is before I commit. I have lots of customer quilts to quilt plus my own for the season of fairs and quilt show. I have lots of fall fabrics to use up. In fact, I finally finished up my swap blocks from a couple of years ago that were fall log cabins.
Question would be, does embroidered blocks count if they are leaves or do we just stick with pieced and appliqued blocks?

QuilterMomma 07-30-2015 03:57 PM

Never mind my question, I looked above and see that I can do embroidered. Cool, will see what I can come up with.
