Those beautiful colors look so good together, IceLeopard!

WMUTeach 06-04-2018 05:07 PM

Last June envelope left this afternoon. I spent a chunk of today making 9 patches for another project. Once you get on the train, it is hard to stop it. But I have 5 quilt tops to get under the quilting needle. Did half of one this afternoon. Yeah! Other half tomorrow and then binding unless those 9 patches jump into my lap again. :o Hope to get them all finished by.....July 1. Then I need to learn how to post photos because nearly all of them are made at least in part with 2.5 candy squares.

Thanks. :) One of my favorite combinations is turquoise, chocolate, gold and cream. So if this pattern calls for lights as well, now you know mine! :D

barbarakibler23 06-04-2018 05:51 PM

wow...givio...that is beautiful!

You can use your candies to do the same, if you like, as the center pieces are 2 1/2" (2" finished). The star pattern is called 'Sister's Choice.'

another beautiful quilt! Way to go... hav4boys

SheriR, did you put the tricycle patch on top so we could smile? :-)

JuanitaBean, SBG, Looking at those laid out is making me want to join in! I have to sandwich my 9patch column next...

BAhaha maybe I'll get that tricycle pressed today.

Faintly Artistic 06-05-2018 06:34 AM

IceLeopard and Sewbiz, those are looking mighty fine!

Faintly Artistic 06-05-2018 06:35 AM

Vizio, nice quilt! Hav4boys, and JuanitaBean, nice progress!

IceLeopard 06-05-2018 06:40 AM

Everybody has such bright and cheerful mixtures! Makes me smile to see them.

Faintly Artistic 06-05-2018 07:00 AM

Why, oh why, does my phone take a correctly spelled name (Givio) and turn it into something I did not type? It's not like Vizio is a common word...I really hate auto correct! I type the word batiks all the time in my phone, and it still changes it to batons (which I never type!) I truly believe "smart" phones are designed to make intelligent people look stupid in front of others!

Crispy_Frog 06-05-2018 07:05 AM

Here I is my alphabetized list, so far. I have only opened a couple envelopes, and not all the screen names are included. Thanks everybody!

Faintly Artistic, It goes to show the smart phone is not so smart. We've joined the modern age... I heard they don't teach children to write cursive anymore. I said 'cursive' to someone who was younger recently, and she didn't know what the word meant. Maybe it's not just phones, maybe vocabulary in is the toilet. Maybe we will be trading vocabulary for push buttons and acronyms before long. :-p

Tonight at my charity group, someone brought this beautiful quilt made of 2.5" squares. I thought I'd show you the setting, as it's perfect for candies! It is a snowball and 9patch, set on point.

jaba 06-05-2018 06:03 PM

I have my envelopes stuffed for July so all hubby has to do is mail after I get your names and addresses. Explanation:
It's 1 day at a time here...for those of you that don't know...I started feeling very ill about 3 weeks before we left Florida and came home and went to the doctor the next day. My days have been filled with doctors, surgeries, 3 total in 5 days, and labs. The results were that I have cancer. Met with the radiology dept. and chemo yesterday, labs today again, Billings, MT, for Pet scan on Thursday, then another scan in Cody, WY on Friday, surgery scheduled for next week to put a port in place for the Chemo and then the process will begin. So far they have said aggressive radiation for 6 to 8 weeks everyday and chemo for the 1st 5 days of that and then the last 5 days. Please forgive me if I don't leave you feedback or I'm not on the board very often. I don't know what this has in store for me at this time but I'm going to give it all that I have. My participation is certainly on hold for a while but I will be back and I'll try to check in as often as I can. I thought you should know why I've been missing and not posting, but I am trying to plan ahead for you birthday ladies.

WMUTeach 06-05-2018 06:30 PM

Jaba, it is time to think of yourself for a while and take all the time you need. Do not be concerned about silly old 2.5 birthday squares. As much as we love out treats and birthday surprises, you and your recovery are far more important. Pop in when you want to or just lurk when you need a diversion. I will be praying for you, your family and most of all for all the medical folks who are working with you and your specific diagnosis and treatment. The peace of knowing someone else was in control made me much more confident. We will miss you, your comments and your work, but like I said earlier, this time is for you!

barbarakibler23 06-05-2018 06:34 PM

thanks for sharing the quilt sewbizgirl.....I have a snowball started somewhere but didn't like it. I now see it with quilting and it makes all the difference. That is beautiful!

Jaba take care of yourself, will be in my praying for you.

IceLeopard 06-05-2018 09:01 PM

Jaba don't worry about not getting stuff out on time, or at all. There will be times when you may not have the energy to even watch tv, let alone worry about our silly candies.

Let Hubby take care of you. If nothing else, put him in charge of keeping track of your appointments. That was what mine did.

Regarding radiation therapy, start in from the first with an aloe-based sunburn gel after each session. I didn't, until several days in, and the area got pretty badly burned. 3 1/2 years later, I still have a tanned rectangle on my chest that is most likely permanent. (But on the bright side, I no longer have to shave my right armpit!)

I homeschooled my kids and they all learned cursive and spelling!

Faintly Artistic 06-05-2018 09:21 PM

Jaba, thinking of you during all this. Take care of yourself and don't worry about the swap.

givio 06-06-2018 06:32 AM

Jaba, As has been said by others, don't stress out about the candy swap. Things can happen, in many different ways, to change what we can do throughout a year. If you cannot think about completing the swap, or your husband forgets to do a task for you, or whatever, it's absolutely okay with me. If you want, it's nice to hear if you are doing a little bit of sewing, or chatting about whatever, on this thread or that one, now and then, if you can manage it, or if not, that's okay. Take it easy, and do what you can to get well again.

hav4boys 06-06-2018 08:45 AM

Please Jaba, no worries. Take care of yourself.

oldcatlady 06-06-2018 12:36 PM

jaba, I'm so sorry to hear about your cancer. You and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers. I know you will kick it's butt! Don't worry about anything else, just doing what you need to in order to get well. I hope you'll feel up to checking in with us from time to time. Don't even think about our candies. If you're in any other swaps, I'm sure they feel the same way but if for whatever reason you need help with something please just let me know and I will do it.

sewbizgirl 06-06-2018 12:54 PM

I'm not a member of this swap this year, but Jaba, I am praying for you. I can't imagine anyone being upset at your not being able to fulfill your commitment, under the circumstances. Just put all of your energy into beating this cancer. We are all part of your team!

Jane Quilter 06-06-2018 02:36 PM

Jaba, prayers going out to you during this treatment. Hope you will remain strong and have positive outcomes. Many of us have been thru this ordeal, and please know that we wish you well, too.

happylab 06-06-2018 03:13 PM

Jaba, My prayers and positive thoughts are headed your way. Like several members have stated, just relax, and take care of yourself. we would love to hear from you when you can.
