Boomerang Friendship Swap 10.0-ELECTRA Group

Boomerang Friendship Swap 10.0 ELECTRA Group :)

Mailing deadline for completed blocks will be November 10,2013.

Hello and welcome to the Boomerang Friendship Swap. This swap is about a great opportunity to get a large number of blocks from all over the world made by our online quilting friends.

How it works:
1) You will select a fabric or selection of fabrics from your stash (or you can buy new-up to you) and cut them in to Fat Eighths (18 x 11) or (9x22) We prefer the 18 x 11 for this swap as it gives a bigger cutting area for certain blocks but either measurement will work.
2) You will send each member in the swap one F8 to work with. The person who receives the fabric will make you a block with your fabric in it.
3) You may advise the person of colors you would prefer they use or not use but please do not request specific blocks. This is meant to be a “friendship” swap where your friends pick, design and create a beautiful 12.5” unfinished block for you based on the fabric you send them.
4) In turn you will receive an F8 from each member in the swap and have to make them a block.

Rules/Guidelines:
(please make sure to also refer to the basic policies that apply to all swaps announced through the board: http://www.quiltingboard.com/member-...-a-t20154.html)
1) Please make sure all fabric is prewashed prior to making the block and sending it home. You do not have to wash the fabric you receive.
2) When sending your fabric please make sure it is in some kind of sealed item (Ziploc baggy, saran wrap) with a piece of paper or even a peel-off label with your name, address and quilt board name so that the items are protected and won’t get mixed up. Please do this when returning blocks as well. (This way if for some unhuman reason the PO mangles a package the plastic has a chance at saving the work and with an address visible it just might make it home)
3) Please mail your F8 within three weeks of receiving the address list. This helps ensure we all have ample time to work on everyone's blocks.
4) Please handle all fabric received with the utmost care and place it somewhere where it won’t be lost or forgotten about.
5) In order to help keep track of the blocks sent and received I will be emailing out a chart to all members who participate so that you may fill it in as we go.
6) All blocks should be 12.5” unfinished. They can be regular pieced, paper-pieced, appliquéd-whatever the quilter decides to do. It is up to each individual. Again the feeling is to get a true friendship quilt out of this. Please do not request specific blocks as the idea is to let everyone, of every level join in and try new things and grow.
7). Please remember to trim your threads, cut your dog ears...in essence remove any excess work from the back of your block that the receiver should not have to worry about. We do not want to have any extra bulk in these blocks that are not needed (harder to quilt them :-) )
8) You may sign the back of the block if you wish to or perhaps pin a small muslin square with your name, where you live and what the name of the block is.
9) Please measure your block before mailing it. We all started somewhere but it is nice to be able to get all the blocks back measuring the same size so the quilt can go together nicely. So measure, measure and when you think it is right, measure once more
10) Please make a block that you yourself would be happy and proud to call your own.
11) This is a one block per swapper swap. You will have to make one block for each member in your group (not including yourself.)
12) Please be courteous to our swappers and post when you receive either someone's fabric or a completed block. This helps us to know the postal gremlins are not at work lol If for some reason you cannot get on the board to post please let me know and I will let the members know. We appreciate interaction with all of our swappers. You can do a weekly update as well if that works better for you.
13) Have FUN!!! This swap will let you explore your creativity as you do not have to make the same block for everyone. You can try that block you always wanted to. Try new fabrics, new colors...step outside of your comfort zone in to a different box

PLEASE DO NOT SEND FABRICS/BLOCKS WITH PERFUME OR OVERWHELMING FRAGRANCES ON THEM DUE TO ALLERGIES. THERE MAY BE MEMBERS OR FAMILY MEMBERS WHO HAVE SEVERE ALLERGIES TO CERTAIN THINGS SO PLEASE TRY YOUR BEST TO NOT SEND ANYTHING THAT COULD CAUSE AN ATTACK

Also please remember when posting on the board to use members board names or just first names and not their full names. This is a courtesy to our members as the information here can be seen publicly and we do not want anyone to have that private info.

Please, NO public complaints or criticisms of other swappers, items received, or other type for any reason. ALL complaints must be addressed by Private Message (pm) to me. THIS IS AN ABSOLUTE!!!!!

Just one more friendly reminder-please make sure your packages have proper postage on them-if you are unsure either take them to the PO or throw another stamp on. We do not want anyone to have to incur any extra expense during this fun time. Also be aware postage could run high on this swap so if you think that may be an issue you may not like this swap.

I think you will find yourself enjoying the blocks because you can work at your pace as they come in as long as they are all out by the established deadline once the swap is closed.

As always please feel free to PM me with any questions or concerns-I am always happy to help.

Hugs
April

Quiltaddiction 07-10-2013 04:19 AM

Me too Cool group name can't wait to get started this is going to be so much fun!

LovingIzabella 07-10-2013 06:20 AM

I apologize that the group is a little larger than anticipated but I had to do it to make the groups even as I did not have enough for another full small group. I laid them out so it is an even number of blocks still received (16 in the other groups and 18 here).

I am looking forward to my first boom swap. Will all be okay, no matter what number there is.

ArizonaKAT 07-10-2013 07:03 AM

Good morning, Boomers! We are off and running! I'm going with holiday fabric this time around. Hope to get several lap quilts once I'm done.

I've decided to give each of you the option of which holiday fabric you would like to work on. If you have a preference, please pm me and I will try to accommodate you. It must be first come first serve though. I'm in three different groups.

Your choices are:

Easter (all the same material and has several different colors. I've requested solids or tone on tones. So don't be afraid of this holiday)

St. Pat's Day (all same material. Four leaf clovers)

Patriotic (several different materials and I don't have a clue what material is in what envelope. Stuffed the envelopes a while ago)

Thanksgiving (all the same material; gold background with different colored words throughout. I requested to use the colors of the words but now am thinking pumpkins, turkey, etc. would be cool too. Can't change to note. Envelopes are already stuffed)

Christmas (this, like the Patriotic, are several different fabrics, all of which are stuffed and sealed in envelopes).

Happy Booming, Ladies!

Pink Lady 07-10-2013 07:21 AM

Good morning
I am looking forward to seeing all the fabric everyone has picked out. Hope to get mine in the mail tomorrow.

Have a great day

awilson 07-10-2013 07:36 AM

Hi All! Similar to oldcatlady I am not in this group but would love to do some extra side swaps. PM if you are interested!

Old_Rosebud 07-10-2013 07:43 AM

Woops. Don't have enough fabric for 17 swappers. ;) I will either see if I can buy more of my fabric (woo hoo!) or just send a couple of you something different.
Will get most of mine out tomorrow. Love our group's name too! :)

Abby's Mom 07-10-2013 12:16 PM

Hi Everyone - looking forward to a great swap. All f8's will be in the mail tomorrow! Let the fun begin!

omacookie 07-10-2013 12:35 PM

Do you make a 12 I/2 in block for everyone in the swap??? Thanks, Omacookie

jaba 07-10-2013 03:49 PM

Yes omacookie you do. All of the specifics are in the rules that April has set. When you get each person's fabric you make them a block, be sure to measure so it's a 12 1/2"sq. Then when you are done with it mail it back. Mailed all of my fabric out today to each one of you. I did include a note in each one, it is red and white and I would like you to use only solid white 100% cotton.

mollymunchkin 07-10-2013 04:41 PM

Arizonakat, anything is fine with me. If for some bizarre reason I don't have the right fabric in my stash, I will force myself to go shopping ;)

roseirish48 07-10-2013 07:13 PM

hello fellow swappers. I am sending out pink f8s next week and ask you to only ise white or other pink fabrics in making the blocks. the returned blocks are going into a quilt to be donated to Quilt for Cure auction as symbol of my support to all those fellow quilters who have or are presently fighting that lonely battle.

I actually found two different pinks on sale last week and bought them. I wasn't sure why. I'm not a pink person. Now I know why.

Addressed all my envelopes last night. Had exactly enough! I will need to make a few Christmas ones myself. The material was cut from Fats and we all know that one Fat does not equal 2 F8s. I accommodated all that requested certain holidays but if you didn't pm me before last night, your material is going to be a surprise . . . to you and me :-)

ljdugas31 07-11-2013 09:08 AM

hi everyone!! Sent out my fabric today so let the fun begin!!

createfourpaws 07-11-2013 04:06 PM

I have been crazy at work, haven't had time to address the envelopes when I get home from work in the evenings. Work 12 hours 4 days a week keeps me busy and I am on the phone all day, need to bring them to work with me tomorrow and address between talking on the phone with my oxygen patients. I will have them mailed out this weekend, Monday at the latest.

Gaijin 07-11-2013 04:48 PM

Last three in the mail today! Nice to swap with you all! I found a lovely Hoffman Christmas fabric for my fabric, hope you like it!

Want to ask everyone a question.

When I washed and cut my f4's into f8's, they are a little short on measurement. Can I send a healthy cut of a coordinated fabric to be included in the block?

jaba 07-11-2013 06:33 PM

Yes alikat110 you can if you wish to have both fabrics in your block. Be sure to write a note with each one.

mollymunchkin 07-11-2013 08:50 PM

Createfourpaws, jaba, ljdugas, and missgigglewings, as we are also in the fast group, will there be a problem if I send both fabrics in the same envelope? I understand they will come back at different times. I don't have a problem with you sending both at the same time if you want. Just let me know which one you want back first.

jaba 07-12-2013 04:28 AM

No problem molly, just label them please. I already had my envelopes stuffed so I didn't take them apart, you'll receive each group in envelope but it is labeled with what group it is. If you have both of yours in the envelope, I'll sew both and then mail back to you. I sew them in the order I receive them, no matter which group it is.

createfourpaws 07-12-2013 04:42 AM

Molly I am ok with that, and I may do the same thing, I have not been as prepared as others have been.

just label which is for which one.

LovingIzabella 07-12-2013 08:44 AM

Hello all!
I will be leaving for Canada early tomorrow morning for a work conference and be returning late on Thursday. I am not sure how often I will be able to check in as it is a super busy one with events all day and dinners too. It is the World Credit Union Council conference and The Global Women's Leadership Network as well.
So I hope you all have fun, behave and try not to miss me too much LOLOL You can always send me a PM or email and I will answer as soon as I can.
Hugs
April

paperpieceme 07-12-2013 09:03 AM

Jaba,
whats the name of your avatar block? that is just wonderful, i would love to make one

jaba 07-12-2013 12:11 PM

It's a modified pineapple, my way:D No pattern I just started sewing, I made 4 blocks first and then spun them around until the colors came out the way I wanted them to. I started with the 4 patch if that helps you.

ljdugas31 07-12-2013 03:50 PM

Molly I am fine with that. I am in all the groups and sent them all out yesterday I didn't mark the group name so sorry, hope it doesn't make it hard for you all. I stuffed 112 with a note but totally forgot the group name.ugh!!!

ljdugas31 07-12-2013 04:01 PM

Abby's Mom got your fabric today love it .

Old_Rosebud 07-13-2013 06:11 AM

Got almost all my fabric out today. The group was bigger than I'd planned, so I still have three F8's to cut. Going to try to find the same fabric today, so if I can't find I will mail something different to three of you. All my internationals went out today though.
International was $2.05 each, and my PO charged me 0.92 cents to mail each domestic envelope. Wish I had gotten the 0.66 cent rate like some of you guys. :(

Pink Lady 07-13-2013 11:18 AM

All mine are in the mail:) I think the postmistress love to see me coming with my big stack to be mailed we keep them in business. Looking forward once again to going to the post office and getting something besides bills.
Hop you are all having a great day.

createfourpaws 07-13-2013 11:37 AM
