July Mug Rug Swap! Summer Time Fun Makers Choice!



Welcome to the July Mug Rug Swap! This months theme is: Summer Time Fun "



What is a mug rug? A mug rug is an item you use to hold your cup of coffee or tea or soda and a small snack plate/napkin beside it. Its approximately 9x8 or larger so you can put that little plate on it and a mug. Do not please go any smaller as that is pretty small for both items as it is! Note the size change please.

1. You will be assigned a partner. This is not a secret pal swap. Each partner will contact the other partner for addresses. You are encouraged to talk to each other and find out little things about them so you can make a special gift just for them. This months theme is Summer Time Fun theme, makers choice!. Its up to your interpretation of what you want to make based on the title summer fun. This month is makers choice remember you don't need to ask your partner what they want you can make whatever your interpretation of that this months theme is! For this months theme think whatever brings you joy for Summer. Be it a trip somewhere! a bowl of ice cold ice cream, a day on the farm.. a day at the beach whatever fits the theme best in your mind is what you should try to create. do it in color, do it in actual applique or fabrics that fit that which makes you think SUMMER! FUN! Just get creative.

2. You must quilt your mug rug in a fashion that you are most comfortable with. If you don't know how to paper piece maybe stick to regular piecing for this item. NOW for firm rules: IT MUST BE SEWN WITH 100 percent quilters cotton, with batting in between to protect furniture from possible destruction due to heat/cold. If you can not bind or don't want to learn how then it must be turned neatly and cleanly and stitched shut at all times. Be creative. Send something you would be proud to put out yourself. Be kind about what you receive. Any complaints MUST COME TO ME ONLY. Let me deal with anything please. The quilting board is a place we all come to enjoy ourselves, make friends, share ideas. Not everyone is a perfect quilter. BUT everyone tries. We all started somewhere so be considerate when posting. Please try to work out issues with your partner first, privately, before writing me.

3. You must send by July 22nd this time and send me notice that you have sent to your partner. Any delays must be shared with me prior to this date. I want everyone to receive a partners trade. This calling on angels is getting old around here. Be responsible. you sign up? you send. Period. You don't send and aren't sincerely very very sick you will be locked out of swapping with this group and be left bad feedback to insure other swap groups know you didn't send.

4. You are free to include tea/coffee and a small treat to go with your mug rug. If your feeling very generous you can send a bit more but nothing is obligated. fat quarters or other fabric related items are also perfect little add on's...any of the above are always loved. YOU ARE NOT OBLIGATED TO DO THIS however so keep this in mind when sending and receiving. some send a lot some can not afford to do this. No one should be made to feel bad because you chose to send a bunch and they couldn't. Remember this is an optional side item and what you send is a gift. Period.

If you have a preference of what you receive just send a note and she will share it with your partner. Names will be given out on July 1st the latest. sign up today! You are required by the board to send things you sign up for. If you don't you risk not having the ability to swap again in other events so make sure you follow through with what you sign up for. Again per board rules anything about your partner or the item they swap to you that does not please you is NOT to be posted on the board but sent in private email to me or your partner to sort out. Its polite and its the right thing to do.

also! please take a picture before you send as your partner might not be able to post one! don't post until your sure your partner has received and you are sure they cant post their own picture. thanks!

I think I could go so many ways in this swap. I always think beach of course :) but then there is destinations and that brings something else to mind and of course there is farms and critters from the farms would make a fun mug rug.. oh dear. summer fun. water what about something water themed? my mind goes all over yes it does. where is yours taking you?

By the way, in answer to your question yesterday, Elisabrat, about using our mug rugs. I used one of the mug rugs that I received in the first swap that I did in December. My partner actually sent me two, along with several other nice items. Anyway, we were going south for 3 months right after that and I so enjoyed using my camper themed mug rug while I was away from home in our camper! Since getting back home I seem to want to display them instead of using them. I found some cute little wooden clothespins at HL, recently and plan to use them to hang my mug rugs in my sewing room on piece of nice thick string, haven't gotten the string yet, but it is coming together. These little guys that I'm receiving are just too cute!

Ok wondering what secrets we will find in store for us this month! I see a teaser was put out by Jaba. Now to go see what she got that she is going to use! (sneaky sneaky). Today it looks like another warm hot day in Cody but its purely lovely right now :) think its in the high 40's. It has been warming up to over 90 which makes me thankful I am indoors for sure. fan in my face. not moving... wait that cant be productive. Time to get sewing while its so nice and cool. This is my favorite time of day.

dfelker -- congrats on the camper! Someday hubby & I will get something so we won't have to sleep on the ground any more! We still go tenting -- &, really, we're getting a little too old for that these days. Love tenting, but ... anyway, enjoy your camper. You've got the whole summer to enjoy camping!

Dfelker we had an old almost vintage camper. It was so fun fixing it up and it had the most beautiful wood in it. We no longer pull but have a destination trailer in a campground. My back would never handle tenting, ouch it hurts even thinking about it. One of my favorite memories is more or less about camping. We bought some hunting land and spur of the moment we hopped in dh's ancient suburban with a couple of sleeping bags, toasted hot dogs over an open fire, walked the land and spent the night in the truck. Needless to say we were 20 years younger

Right now my summer time fun is helping my husband with remodeling our kitchen and dining room. It'll really open up closed in places in our old 80 yr old home !!! And we're repainting every single room and ceilings ourselves. It's fun.

We're doing pretty good so far. We have 22 people signed up. Two of them want to do 2 swaps (now we're up to 24 mug rugs) & a possible 3rd person may do two as well. And I'm waiting for someone to provide me with more info before I sign her up. How can anyone resist Summertime Fun? The ideas are endless! :)

ah the trick is to keep you entertained with the wonderful selections each month (LOL) that I come up with. Ctyankee has been tremendously helpful when I get stumped on this (ie this months choice) we bounce ideas off each other but hey if you think you have an idea that might work for the whole group just send a PM to either of us and we will keep it in mind. never know when you get the pick of the month! I am so excited to see so many summer time sign ups. With everyone taking vacations its a slower time in general but this is grand news! that is a lot and we are not near the closing date yet! I think this months is so varied in choices that the mug rugs should be just fun.

i just finished sewing down the binding on mine. Going to have to hide it, my friends are begging that they want it or one just like it and they can beg so well.

Only up to a point. I think I stopped watching after The Next Generation. But that saying (resistance is futile) has been in sci-fi for a loooonng time. It's one of my family's little sayings we quote. We quote movies to each other all the time.

So I was rocking along, thinking I'd sit this month out for a change and do some other things... when I get this cute idea and the next thing you know I've got a mug rug made. This is the first one I've ever made that I actually want to keep! But it's all ready to go. All I need is a partner....

ok that little trailer has big potential :) I get this vintage trailers pictures in facebook for some reason. I don't own a trailer but it sure is fun to see the vintage items that are shown and how adorable they are set up. they go the hole nine yards when it comes to "all out" 50's items. omg. so cute. :) and you cant help but think of summer time with this things.

Well, this is a first for me! I have two mug rugs already stitched and ready to go! I may do another one in a different color just to make sure I am covering my bases and giving my partner something she will enjoy! :) Or I may wait til I get her name and then find out what colors she enjoys and make another one...or two...ha ha ha!

This is a first for me, but at the last minute I decided to join in on July's Mug Rug Swap. I could use some mug rugs, so I hope what I make will work for the partner I get. :) I have sent in my info if it's not too late.

A new high for me- my July mug rug is done with the exception of the binding. Waiting to hear my partner's favorite color. And to think I almost didn't play this month.

I have another mug rug pattern I saw today that I'm going to try, just for the pure fun of it. Maybe if the first one doesn't fit my partner's taste, the second one will ;)
