They had fireworks at Crocker Park this week and the fireworks went into the crowd instead of up in the air. I'll watch it on tv. I can see some fireworks from Hudson through my upstairs bedroom window but there are a few trees blocking most of it.

Elisabrat 07-03-2015 06:18 AM

We are to have them here in Cody at the rodeo grounds but I will stay home because honestly ... home sounds good. clinic in the morning a long nap in the afternoon and then a peaceful evening with just the two of us. I am game for that. a good old rib eye steak for dinner and well.. its a good fourth of July for us. maybe even a baked potato if its not too hot to cook them. We are expecting the best gift ever.. 70 degree weather. ok probably 79 but its way better than 100! I could do that for a weekend. what a gift that would be.

I am hearing how much faster it is working on these mug rugs when you can make what you want. wow you guys are fast. Jaba would you share with us your quilts you've entered in the fair with all of us? we would love to see them! I wish all of you a wonderful holiday if I don't get here in the morning. May it be full of all the things you love.

JuneBillie 07-03-2015 08:53 AM

Linda, your idea of being at home, and having something you like to eat sounds good to me. Have a relaxing weekend everyone, and be safe. :)

It seems to be HOT all over the USA....ITs been hot here in WA where we don't get the 80-90 temps until august . Has been very high 80's for a few weeks and no rain...l we need rain really bad its very tinder dry and dangerous. I have parked myself at my sewing machine with my little floor ac on to stay cool... that's where I will stay put. going to a bbq the 4th but home by evening... have a new kitty I don't want to leave alone with all the fireworks noise. HAPPY 4th OF JULY EVERYONE stay cool. HAPPY SEWING TOO.

ctyankee 07-04-2015 02:55 AM

Happy 4th of July everyone!

Elisabrat 07-04-2015 04:21 AM

WHOOP WHOOP Happy 4th of July!!!! If your at a fireworks display take a picture for us to see! I see clear skies which usually means a warm day. I would take a cool day in a HEART BEAT! I have clinic today and then its happy days for me. Sunday is still a tired day for me but MONDAY? its almost almost like the old days off. I can sew a couple hours even! oh yeah! happy days. I know I should not buy anymore fabric. After all at the rate I am sewing its mostly a couple blocks maybe three a week I do now. sigh. but how can you NOT buy more.. just a bit you know a yard of this and a half of that? addiction pure and simple. sigh. I love fabric lol.

sewbizgirl 07-04-2015 05:06 AM

Happy 4th of July, everyone! Happy Birthday America!

jaba 07-04-2015 07:00 AM

We're staying home also, baby back ribs on the grill I think. Mug rugs are in the mail, got binding machine sewed on..now just all the hand sewing. As I get them done Linda I'll post so you can see. I spent a bunch of time on these so hope the judges will like them.
and Linda you should be able to see the fireworks from your front yard really well.

rwquilts 07-04-2015 08:26 AM

Happy birthday America!! I love our country!! We're low key here, but will go to friends for dinner and fun and watch town fireworks from their front lawn...

JuneBillie 07-04-2015 10:38 AM

Happy Birthday America! Happy Independence Day! I think about our Founding Fathers. :) Everyone have a safe and great day. :)

I am waiting to hear from my special partner (dfelker), but she is probably busy with the holidays. :) I do have my fabric cut out to make her special mug rug.

ljdugas31 07-04-2015 01:46 PM

Happy 4th everyone!!!! Waiting to hear from one of my partners Nan62.

terriamn 07-05-2015 06:09 AM

It's actually been pretty cool for July here in my neck of the woods. We put on sweat shirts and went out on our neighbors pontoon to watch fireworks. It was great, with it being cool no Mosquitos and we could watch the fireworks not only from around the lake but from all the small neighboring towns.

sewbizgirl 07-05-2015 04:07 PM

Beautiful, Jaba! You must have access to a very wide long arm setup! Good luck in the judging.

jaba 07-05-2015 04:49 PM

I have an HQ 16 on a 12' frame. Some quilts get pretty tight but this one is fine.

ljdugas31 07-05-2015 05:13 PM

Jaba Soooooo Beautiful!!!!!

Nan62 07-06-2015 04:48 AM

Jaba -- beautiful quilt! Good luck at the show!

lynnie 07-06-2015 07:55 AM

Jaba, love your quilt. would go perfectly on my white bed in my beachy bedroom. beautiful work!!

Elisabrat 07-06-2015 08:01 AM

Love the colors in that quilt. a keeper for sure! wowsa Jan. a Cal King? omg the hours that went into making that. I agree, a winner absolutely :)

Well how are you coming with your July mug rugs? anyone gotta a sneak peak for us? anybody?? lol. I hope you made it through the holiday weekend in grand order. As to fireworks from here? I could see the ones done down in the valley towards Heart Mountain Jan. but the ones from the fair grounds too many tree to see them. We heard them though lol. BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! til about 10:30. It was fine with me. Also across the street two big trucks came and parked their happy tails in the spot that would make lovely viewing for me. They kept turning on the car lights for something and had those extra spotter lights on it so it lit up like a Christmas tree half the time and covered most of the lights. darn it! next year going to have Steve go out there and park sideways. no one can park there then lol. course when he moves it to see the lights from the house for me? someone will sneak in. sigh. its still a treat to see four or five :) I love fireworks. My father used to do them for the whole neighborhood. Everyone would come to our house and bring their little boxes. My dad would go out and buy 200.00 worth of fireworks in the 60s. combined? tons of fireworks at least five houses worth. Then we would set up picnic benches and everyone would sit on our lawn and watch the works. the sparklers the kids had you know back then.. each family had at least 2 to 4 kids. we would run around like crazy on the grass with those things kids inevitably getting burned on their hands at least once but no one minded much. it was GREAT. what wonderful memories I have of those days. bbq and then fireworks. now I am satisfied with a couple and all is good. I love to buy those little fountains? you know 4 inches or so? they make me just as happy as a 6 foot one which scares the living daylights out of me. I like my trees. I love my yard. and my house lol. silly things like that. but .. I sure like a tiny fountain or two. grin... the little things that bring you joy lol.

Cant wait to see what your making or have made (even if its not a mug rug) so share away. We love ideas! love to see the creativity! photos photos photos! (selfish I know)

Whigrose 07-06-2015 08:05 AM

Jaba, your quilt looks great to me. Good luck with the judging.

Waaa... so sad. I was hand sewing the binding on the mug rug for sewbizgirl when realized I forgot to sew in corner hangers. And if that wasn't bad enough, after I finished sewing the binding I now know that was are diagonal checks originally in the fabric, end up being straight when cut on the bias. Up until that moment,I was pleased with the overall piece. Ugh. The binding is off and now to find something that will work up half as cute. Darn it...

ctyankee's binding is on. I am getting some serious opinions about not mailing this one on. My thought is, I can do it again. I must say, this is one of my favorite 'little' pieces. Pamela, you deserve it.

Well, off to the lqs.

Best,
deb in sultry Maine

rwquilts 07-06-2015 09:15 AM

I love the colors in your quilt Jaba! It looks to be beautifully quilted. Good luck with the fair!

I have finished my partner's mug rug and after doing just a bit of shopping, I will get this in the mail to ljdugas...it's been a fun one to work on!

ljdugas31 07-06-2015 09:48 AM

can't wait!!! I finished yours also. Packing up sending out end of the week.

sewbizgirl 07-06-2015 10:18 AM

Whigrose, sorry you had trouble. You don't have to put in corner hangers. I use the mug rugs flat on the table! I didn't put any on yours... sorry. You should have your package from me any time now. Probably tomorrow, if not today.

Linda, you need to get a couple or three of those tall orange traffic cones and stick them across the street so no one can park and block your view of the fireworks next year. Residents should have first shot at the viewing!

KLTQuilts 07-06-2015 10:49 AM

Jaba - great looking quilt! Yep, a Blue Ribbon for sure

ctyankee 07-06-2015 11:00 AM

whigrose -- I finished your mug rug & then when I got up this morning, it suddenly hit me like a ton of bricks that I forgot the triangles! So ... yours now has triangles. I hope never to forget that again! Ugh!

I have a question for everyone, sort of a unofficial poll. Does everyone like the idea of having two options per month (or most months), or would you rather have just one idea to go with? I ask this because almost everyone liked the patriotic theme better than the picnic theme. So I started thinking, if we did patriotic one month & picnic another month, everybody would have had an equal chance at both, instead of an either/or situation. Just a thought. I know which I prefer, but I'd like to hear from you!

ctyankee 07-06-2015 11:01 AM

rwquilts -- love your avatar! Did you make those paper-pieced roses?

Whigrose 07-06-2015 12:02 PM

ctyankee, sweet of you to go back and add them. No biggie though to go hand stitch a couple of small triangles in after the fact, especially since the little things don't weigh an ort.

Picked up some sweet summery fabric at the LQS for replace the binding for sewbizgirl.

Now, get back to work, deb.

Oh, personally I like the option of A or B. That way you don't have to sit out if you don't care for the swap theme. What's the chances of not liking both?

Best,
deb

I didn't ctyankee. Free style log cabinish...at least that's my story today. :) If I never took pictures, I'd forget everything I make over the years...this one was finished for the mini quilt swap a few years ago...don't remember who it was sent to.

I really don't mind either way regards the theme choices...I figure that between me and my partner we can decide what we want to do...most themes can be easily adapted to fit almost anything. Whatever is the easiest for you is what I vote for. :)

dotcomdtcm 07-06-2015 05:55 PM

I like a choice of themes, A or B, but I'd probably do both. Awaiting an address! Dotty

Nan62 07-06-2015 06:34 PM

Robin lee, my ex co worker Edna ulbrich is there as well. I retired and she's still going. She's from Texas. It would be a blast if y'all met. We were friends in elem. then she was my student teacher. Then years later cam back to teach with her when she was head of the dept in Jourdanton , tx. Glad you mentioned this fact about you!

sewbizgirl 07-06-2015 07:16 PM

ctyankee, thanks for asking our opinions of the themes. I would prefer just one theme at a time. That way we get to do them all! I know it's a pain to think of just one theme at a time, let alone two every month--more taxing for our leaders. If somebody doesn't like a particular theme they don't have to sit out... just do their own thing!

I love your blue roses avatar too, rwquilts. What a gorgeous mini quilt that must have been!

annt59 07-06-2015 07:27 PM

I like the idea of one theme. One less decision to make.

regm 07-07-2015 03:48 AM

I made 2 mug rugs for June, patriotic and picnic, just because I had the ideas. Don't know if I would do that again because I' m not that creative on my own. Consider me on the fence.

Elisabrat 07-07-2015 05:18 AM

Let me put in my two bits. I like two ideas for most months. This allows most people to play. If you don't like or have any of one type of fabric there will be another option for those who would rather do that one. I can not afford to run out for fabric at all. I have to use what I have. I had almost nothing in red white or blue this month. I also know say in Dec some celebrate the Jewish holiday and prefer a Hanukah theme. Its not fair to include one but not the other. so for some months.. I say two picks is a good plan. for others we can go with one. That is my thought and personally I would rather stick with this unless I can hear a good reason not to. Its not any harder to have two picks than one. You simply go the route you like the most. tada. done. and its ok to let your partner you don't have say fourth of july fabric but you do have red and whites and blues.. I think when done it would look rather patriotic but if you don't want patriotic? then what? you sit it out? not fair in my minds eye.
