I also enjoy Joanne Fluke books, Lillian Jackson Braun, other contemporary light mysteries.
I haven't seen any quilting magazines yet. Didn't even realize there were out there. Now I'll have to take a look!

[QUOTE=Quilty-Louise;6348522]Dear SSR (secret santa recipient),

Do you like to read books? if so what kind of genre do you like?
Do you like quilting magazines? any particular ones? all ? none?

You're not paying close enough attention, it's NOT going to Florida. Well, this one isn't anyway. I am making one that is going there though to JudyLee2.

Quilty-Louise 10-14-2013 03:09 PM

I sent this to my DH and the following was his reply to me.

Nope Santa is a man:

He lives at the North Pole. All women require ambient room
temperature high enough to cook a turkey, so there's no way
any woman choose the North Pole as her base of operations.
The Bahamas, maybe.

He's fat and jolly. No one dares to describe any woman as
"fat and jolly." If Santa was a woman, and you called her
"fat and jolly," you wouldn't find coal in your stocking, you'd
find a bomb!

He hangs out at the mall. Sure, at first glance this might
seem to prove that he's a she. But, while both men and
women go to malls, what does Santa do at the mall?
He sits down! Do women ever sit at malls? No, women shop;
men sit. Santa sits. 'Nuff said.

He walks on roofs. Women refuse to get on roofs!
Have you ever seen a woman on a roof?

He likes milk and cookies. If he were a she, you have to
leave dark chocolate and herbal tea by the fireplace. Or,
if she was still sensitive about that whole "Fat and Jolly"
thing, she'd demand carrot sticks and water. He uses the
chimney. What woman would crawl into a dirty, smelly
chimney? A woman would carry a set of keys for every
house and then not be able to find them in her purse.

He has reindeer. Reindeer are totally a guy thing: big,
hairy, smelly, with huge antlers. No woman would use
them. She would prefer a stretch limo.

See? Santa must be a man!

Santa Claus is a woman because:
  • The vast majorities of men don't even think about selecting gifts until Christmas Eve and only go for a last-minute shopping spree.
  • For a he-Santa, there would be no reindeer because they would all be dead, gutted and strapped on to the rear bumper of the sleigh.
  • Even if the male Santa did have reindeer, he would inevitably get lost up there in the snow and clouds and then refuse to stop and ask for directions.
  • For a Santa man, there would be unavoidable delays in the chimney, where the Bob Vila-like Santa would stop to inspect and repaint bricks in the flue.
  • He would also need to check for carbon monoxide fumes in every gas fireplace, and get under every Christmas tree that is crooked to straighten it to a perfectly upright 90-degree angle.
  • Men can't pack a bag.
  • Men would rather be dead than caught wearing red velvet.
  • Men would feel their masculinity is threatened...having to be seen with all those elves.
  • Men don't answer their mail.
  • Men would refuse to allow their physique to be described even in jest as anything remotely resembling a "bowlful of jelly."
  • Men aren't interested in stockings unless somebody's wearing them.
  • Having to do the 'Ho Ho Ho' thing would seriously inhibit their ability to pick up women.
  • Finally, being responsible for Christmas would require a commitment.

Oh my gosh this is toooo funny, what a great sense of humor your DH has. Not to mention he was "spot on" with his descriptions of why Santa is not a woman. Now I have to share this with my DH, I know he will get a bang out of it.

Of course you can! We have SS partners who never visit, so you have one of their chairs. :)
Ummmmmmm, I think there might be some sort of rule that visitors must bring us snacks of . . . ummmmmm, let's see . . . oh! Fettuccine Alfredo! Yeah, that was it! Visitors must bring a lot of Fettuccine Alfredo and a bottle of nice white wine!

I also have read all of the Braun books, having 2 Siamese cats of my own it makes it all the more fun. Joanna Carl also writes a nice mystery that is similar to Fluke's but instead of cookies her business is chocolate. Oh brother, I'm on here again writing about candy and cookies!

I have always wanted to read the quilt series books that so many rave about.

Jan

Oh good I have a new author to check out, Will go to the library tomorrow. Was listing to The cat who ate danish modern this afternoon, love Qwillern and the two cats. Unfortunately I am allergic to most cats. I have tried about 20 of the cookie recipes from Fluke's stories. My favorite are kool-aid cookies and boggles (I use dried cherries from our tree).
Thank you for the new author.

I have both of the Cat cookbooks and want to pick up the Cookie murder cookbook.

Dedemac 10-14-2013 05:07 PM

Cheesehead

The chocolate cat caper is on it's way to my library, should have it by Thursday. I guess I have to get more sewing done so I can have some time to read.

OK- Maybe Santa is a MAN---- Santa is certainly a Man!

Santa Claus is undoubtedly a man because:
  • Santa doesn't deliver his presents on The Friday after Thanksgiving when the malls are open for 20 hours. Christmas Eve deliveries prove Mr. Claus to be a man.
  • Santa's reindeer is so drunk that his nose glows as his navigator. A woman would never let out those cute deer to work on Christmas Eve that too in cold and perhaps would dress them in sweaters and booties.
  • Only a male Santa can ignore 'fashion' and wear the same suit for 500 years.
  • Santa has never been known to answer a letter.
  • Women aren't interested in stockings unless someone better looking than them is wearing them.
  • As many presents as Santa delivers he has no trouble with babes.
  • Only men have the ability to stay up for 24 hours straight in the cold with a bunch of mangy deer and going up and down soot-infested chimneys.
  • A woman would never even think of going down a chimney and risk staining that red velvet.
  • Commitment requires that Christmas be on the same day each year. A female Santa would delay Christmas until she can touch-up her makeup and do her hair after leaving each house.

Been making some things for my Santaee. I know they like homemade, so am filling up the box with unique things that I know she'll enjoy. Clue for the day? You have lots of pine trees in your state.

You must have my name, Maine is the Pine Tree State.

jaba 10-15-2013 07:29 AM

If my SS is wondering if I read or get magazines, yes I do. I get subscriptions to 5 quilt mags and have been reading the Elizabeth Casey series. I still need the last 2 in the series "Let it Sew" and "Remnants of Murder".
Hint for the day: she likes 2 1/2" strips

Neesie 10-15-2013 07:41 AM

Someone had asked about books and I started to answer but then got side-tracked. Anyway, I read a lot but usually pick up my favorites, as soon as they come out in paperback. However, I've never read any of the quilt mysteries and would welcome any of those. Used books are fine, as long as they don't have cigarette smoke residue on/in them. The smoke residue gives me horrible sinus headaches, which take a long time to go away . . . and as I've learned from another swap, having them sprayed with Fabreeze, only makes things worse. :(

Oh my gosh! It has to be me! I'm always asking for someone to swap 2 1/2" strips. When I buy fabric for a swap or whatever, I always get 3" longer than needed so I can cut my 2.5" strip.
Hint for my ssr, you love all the colors in the rainbow.

I've got my box stuffed to the gills with goodies for my partner. Would like to know when it's ok to mail it out.

I know the deadline is Nov. 15, but can we ship before then? I really think my SS partner is going to like what she gets. I've had lots of fun planning for her.

Thanks, Stitch124
