October Secret Pal Swap Closes Sept 30th 4pm CST

Description:
This is a monthly secret pal swap. There is a sign up every month, and you can choose whether or not to participate each month. You will get a different partner every month, and the person you send to will be different than the person you receive from.

1) YOU NEED TO SEND THE HOSTESS A PRIVATE MESSAGE WHEN YOU MAIL YOUR PACKAGE TO YOUR SECRET PAL.

2)ONCE YOU GET YOUR PACKAGE FROM YOUR SECRET PAL, YOU WILL NEED TO SEND A PRIVATE MESSAGE TO THE PERSON WHO SENT THE PACKAGE TO YOU TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT YOU DID RECEIVE IT AND TO THANK THE SENDER.

3) AFTER YOU HAVE THANKED YOUR SECRET PAL, YOU WILL NEED TO SEND ME A PRIVATE MESSAGE TELLING ME THAT YOU HAVE RECEIVED YOUR PACKAGE SO THAT I CAN KEEP ACCURATERECORDS.

FAILURE TO SEND THESE PRIVATE MESSAGES IS REASON ENOUGH TO BE BANNED FROM THE NEXT MONTHS SWAP.

PACKAGES NEED TO BE SENT OUT BY October 15th, this is a FIRM deadline (NOT A SUGGESTION). IF YOU KNOW THAT YOU CAN NOT MAIL BY THAT DATE, PLEASE DO NOT SIGN UP. You can send your package as early as you'd like!

If you are sending an international package it will need to be mailed by the 10th of October. Due to mail processing, our mail dates for international mailing has to be as early as possible! No later than the 10th of October. It can take many weeks to reach your SP so any delays in mailing can delay the start of the next month’s sign-up sheet being posted.

For international mailing it is very important that you mark your parcel as a 'Gift'. Usually on the Customs Declaration there's a box you can check.

Also, the value should be $10 only (even if you send diamond necklace, lol). I know that each and every time the wonderful generous gifts are far in excess of this amount, but if the true value is listed (and it's over the allowed 'Gift' amount) The person receiving the package is liable for Import Duty, Tax and a Handling fee. This can cost the person receiving as much as $40

As an aside, padded envelopes are much cheaper to send compared to small boxes. I'm not sure if that's true for every carrier or not.

Our International board members are welcome to join the swap.

You must have a phone # or email to sign up

There is a 10 dollar budget for this swap. Items from your stash or homemade items are not included in the $10 limit. Postage isn't included in the ten dollars. The most important thing to remember with the budget is to have fun, but please do NOT SPEND MORE THAN $10.

Sign ups will close the 30th of September, and names will be paired on the 1st of October and sent out no later than the 2nd of October. (I will try to have all names out on the 1st.)

2. If your pal does not receive her/his package within a reasonable time (7 days max from mailing deadline for within the same country. Then I will need tracking information, 15 days for between countries. There are exceptions, but I MUST be notified of any delays in sending on your end). Failure to comply may result in the following: Being banned for the next month

This is why it is imperative that you keep the hostess informed on ANY mailing issues. Along with negative feedback, you will not be allowed to participate in future secret pal swaps. It is also possible that other coordinators will not allow you to participate in their swaps.

It's all about fun, so please have fun with it.

Quilty-Louise 09-21-2015 10:22 AM

Birdscraps 09-21-2015 02:18 PM

This is such a fun swap. I already have a couple of items set aside for my SP this month!

Leesewzany 09-21-2015 06:49 PM

Yay I sent my info, last month was fun, now I'm not a newbie anymore!

Belfrybat 09-22-2015 12:49 PM

I'm in again, even though I'm moving next month. I gathered up general quilting items and put in a swap box and then will add fabric and another item depending on the swappee's likes.

Went To Estate Sale Today

Quilty-Louise 09-24-2015 10:06 AM

Verna - cool find at the estate sale.

Are you joining the Secret Santa Swap this year?

verna2197 09-24-2015 11:08 AM

Thank you Louise never been in that swap before. I will probably just do this one, right now thats enough for me since I usually do SPs, thanks for asking though.

Here is my very first mug rug. Not perfect but I am proud of it. LOL! I saw it somewhere and thought I can do that I don't have to purchase a pattern, I just have to practice. By the way my October SP will be getting this.

Quilty-Louise 09-25-2015 06:51 AM

Verna looks good.

catjo 09-25-2015 07:00 AM

Verna love the mug rug! I always think I want to make some mug rugs and never get around to doing them. They are just so darn cute and I use one at each sewing/cutting station. Just love them!

Louise I signed up for Secret Santa. I just don't read all the crap that is posted during the wait time. Too much stuff for me. I have had really good luck with my Santa's each year I have been in it. So I will try it once again.

catjo 09-25-2015 07:04 AM

Just was looking and doesn't seem like there are many people signing up this month. I hope more join in.

Verna, just looked at your estate find and that is awesome. I would of loved to have that too. Fabric you have intended for it is lovely.

Nancy in Louisiana 09-28-2015 12:19 PM

I'm in again, too. Like the swaps around holidays.

Quilty-Louise 09-30-2015 05:11 AM

WOW in all my years of doing the SP swaps have NEVER seen
it this "dead" or quiet.
Even when I didn't play in the SP swap I would be watching the
thread.

How many people did we have for this month.

Anoka Quilter 09-30-2015 09:24 AM

I am in again for October. I was out of town in the Mountains of Maine Tourmaline mining so did not have internet or cell service. Talk about being disconnected from the world. But no traveling for me in October and I LOVE Halloween so my SP will have a special Halloween treat coming their way; unless for some strange reason they do not like Halloween and then I will have to become creative.

Irene C. 09-30-2015 09:34 AM

I am new on the board, hope to meet some lovely gals through the swap.
Lori I sent you a PM with my info.

catjo 09-30-2015 09:39 AM

Welcome Irene. Always glad to have new people in our swap. The more info you can put on your pm to Lori the easier it is for your swap buddy.

This months postings are really low. I hope there is more people lurking and just not posting this month.

Leesewzany 09-30-2015 10:40 AM

How many people sign up for this swap on average? Are more months busier than others? I wonder if less people play here during the last three months of the year because the secret Santa runs at this time also...

Quilty-Louise 09-30-2015 11:26 AM

Normally (at least from what I could tell), is that NO month
is ever "slow" or low on people signing up.

From my past memory (unless I am just having some major DUH moments)
usually by the time names are set out there is about 3-4 pages worth of chatter.

Someone PLEASE correct me if I am totally off base here.

Leesewzany 09-30-2015 02:56 PM

Another newbie question... And to keep that chatter going lol...How does one leave positive feedback for their swap buddy??

Thanks for the detailed response!

Lori Peercy 09-30-2015 09:53 PM

We only have 25 this month. It is steadily declining. I haven't been in the swap for about 8 months now but do host it it each time. I never what is going to happen around here and with my health it is just easier not to get tied down with having a deadline. All names have been given out this month, early I might add. I had a bad flair up of my COPD but am breathing better. If you do not have your secret pal info in the morning please send me a message and I will resend the info. I really miss Krysytna.

deltadawn 10-01-2015 02:04 AM

Have my pals name and have already sourced some items on her wish list to choose from . Can't wait to get started ! Have lots of goodies that I have made to choose from to include in the package . It has a long long way to travel to reach my pal.

Lori Peercy 10-01-2015 10:05 AM

I need some one who is interested in changing secret pals. Please end me a message if it is not to late to change. Thanks. Lori

Quilty-Louise 10-01-2015 10:49 AM

Just a general question for all of you who join in the swap.

Do you have an amazon.com wish list? if you do is it "public"
or can/will you create a public one for JUST the items you
would like?

I have a public wish list on amazon.com at the rate it is going
will have to hit a MAJOR winning lotto to be able to get my list
of items.

IF the person who has my name doesn't find ideas from my list
you can always ask Lori for my full name and hopefully she will
get back with you on that.

Belfrybat 10-01-2015 12:21 PM

I can't remember who it is, but one member here lists the link to her Amazon wishlist and I find it very helpful. Since I'm a Prime member, I can usually send her something that would cost me more to mail myself.

My SP lives several states north of me. Has been sewing quilting for quite some time, is eclectic in her hobbies, and has both cats and dogs. I'm so glad to finally get a Northerner as a swapee as I have three scarves I made and the last two swapees have been from south Florida. Not someplace to send a woolly scarf to! So... which do you think she will like?

Leesewzany 10-01-2015 02:00 PM

I Do have an Amazon Wish list that is public. That is a great question and great idea!

Irene C. 10-01-2015 05:49 PM

Hello all, I have a question concerning the online wishlists. On my SP's online list she has recently added items, then some older items....does that mean all items are available for purchase on the list or just the new ones?

Leesewzany 10-01-2015 06:53 PM

that depends. When something from the wish list is bought, it is not automatically removed from the wish list. You have to "clean it up" yourself. Which I did this week, so if you got me you are good to go, lol.

Lori Peercy 10-01-2015 09:09 PM

If you have any questions Leesewzany I can always contact her and ask to clarify and get back to you on it. Send me a message if you need my help. Let me know. Lori

I am still in need of some one who is wiling to change the secret pal they have and get a different one or some one to take a 2nd secret pal. Please let me know asap please before it gets to late in the month.. Thanks so much for all of your, help each and every time I ask some one comes through!

Lori Peercy 10-01-2015 09:28 PM

Really nice scarfs Belfrybat. Someone will really enjoy any one of those in her package.

Lori Peercy 10-02-2015 12:06 PM

Thanks to everyone who offered to help me out. I have taken it all care of now. You are so great!
