Thank you all for the color information. I think my fabric is fine. :-)

ReRe 03-07-2010 01:17 AM

I am going to do a Disappearing 9 patch for my block ... unless that is the same as a 9 patch variation.

I think you choice will be pretty in RW&B.

It time to start thinking about the next block swap to be done after the red/white/blue has been completed. Anyone interested in another swap? Suggestions are welcome. Once I get some ideas I'll post a thread for voting.

In any swap like this, there will be varying shades used. I think they will all be beautiful together. Also, just to note, some participants may not be from the USA. SazuBMidlands is from the UK. :-D :-D

Thanks for thinking of me. Its very sweet.
We have a very similar coloured flag though, so red white and blue would work as patriotic colours for me too, and based on flag colours I guess for others too :-)

I have what I think are true blue colours for the red and blue.

SazuBMidlands 03-07-2010 12:44 PM

Forgot to ask - are we prewashing fabrics? It doesnt say in the post on the first page :-S
I dont mind either way, since I always was with colour catchers the first couple of times, but we are using red...

NorBanaquilts 03-07-2010 12:51 PM

Yes pre-wash fabric, I've updated the guidelines. Thanks for catching that.

I would love to be included in the next swap, unless my blocks don't turn out and everyone hates me after this one. This is my first one, but I will try really hard to do a good job.

moneymndr 03-07-2010 10:03 PM

Sign me up if you still have room! I will make Patience Corner blocks from Quiltaholics.com

goldendog55 03-07-2010 10:14 PM

I'd like to make another set of blocks, called Marching Band. It is found in a book called Scraps, Blocks and Quilts.

Brenda, Just do you best and everyone will love you!

Norbana -- must you enable me by feeding my addiction? I'm assuming that by "after this swap is finished" you mean a swap due after the May 31 deadline of the rwb swap? You know I HAVE to be a part of anything you come up with (except those itty-bitty blocks I can't see), so keep us all posted with whatever you're thinking.

My ideas -- maybe a two-color swap, or all star patterns, or all scrappy 9-patches, or all pinwheels on a neutral background. Or a scrappy applique flower on a neutral background -- one of the layered flowers that you sew on a quarter inch inside edges and let the edges go all fringey and ravelly (are those really words?) around the edges.

NorBanaquilts 03-08-2010 09:02 AM

Nancy, I like a bunch of you ideas!

Any other ideas out there???

moosegirl 03-08-2010 10:27 AM

Sign me up for a school house block. Moosegirl

I love your ideas of scrappy 9P's or all pinwheels! I really like the flower suggestion too. Great ideas!! Doing a swap with everyone making the same type of block would be different from the other swaps that have been done recently. Honestly, I'm not a huge fan of sampler quilts, but did the choco/rasp and am doing this one because I like the color combos so much. I'd really love one that's like what Nancy's suggested - a scrappy of same/similar blocks.

Other ideas: 1930's prints or batiks.

FYI: for those of you newer to the board, in the past nine months or so, there have been block swaps in the following color schemes: black/white, blue/yellow, chocolate/raspberry, lavender/pink/green, now red/white/blue.

I did a schoolhouse block in these colors for my Jan. Quilting Bee partner. It's GREAT in these colors. Hope I get one of yours!!
:-D :-D

I would love to do this swap. But not sure what blocks are all taken?? I'm a beginner so nothing too hard, but would love to join in!! Am thinking of doing Churn Dash if no one else has claimed it

hoppyfrog 03-08-2010 04:19 PM

You can do any block you want. All you have to do is let them know how many sets you're signing up to do and I don't think that's carved in stone in case life happens.

After reading all the discussions on color, I want to see I am understanding this correctly, true red, navy blue, and pure white.......are they solids and/or prints that read the color??? Here is a sample of my block, not the actual one, just fabrics laying around, not sure of type of fabric so won't be using them.

red, white & blue block sorry about fuzziness

hoppyfrog 03-08-2010 06:43 PM

I'm still a bit confused (my normal state of being). Can we use the duller colors? I have a bunch of what I call colonial red, white & blues. The white is more tan so I wanted to ask before I make 12 blocks.

BrendaB 03-08-2010 08:43 PM

Isn't the idea to have blocks with a common theme, but with creativity from all over the place? I will be happy with whatever I get. If I over-think it, I will become so overwhelmed that I won't be able to make a decision at all, but I think it is supposed to be fun. If there are going to be specifics about shades and prints, etc., someone better speak up fast. lol

hoppyfrog 03-08-2010 09:21 PM

Hey Brenda. Was Carrie really 174 when she died?

I agree...That's always my problem. I'm over thinking everything and that I can't get anything done. Let's just do what it says and do, a Red, White & Blue swap. It's going to look awesome whatever type of colors they are anyhow because we are All Awesome People.

NorBanaquilts 03-09-2010 03:57 AM

As long as the fabrics read red, white, and blue you are free to use them.

NorBanaquilts 03-09-2010 03:57 AM

double post

NorBanaquilts 03-10-2010 12:49 PM

Several of you have offered suggestions for the next swap. I'd like your help in narrowing down the choices to three. Which out of the following would you prefer doing?
Batiks-Any color, Any Pattern
Pumpkins
Hot Air Balloons
Love Theme
Garden Theme
Black/White/Brights
Stars
Scrappy Nine Patches
Scrappy Pinwheels
Scrappy Raw Edge Applique Flowers
1930's prints, any pattern

After I get your feed back I'll post a new thread to take votes on the 3 choices.

SazuBMidlands 03-10-2010 12:53 PM

I love the idea of hot air balloons! My other choice would be scrappy pinwheels. :-)

Admittedly I'd probably cave and join most things :-S

pastrygrl 03-10-2010 12:55 PM

i like the black/white/brights idea, or the batiks. :)

MISHNJIM 03-10-2010 02:31 PM

I vote for...

1: Black/White/Brights 2: Batiks 3: Scrappy Raw Edge Applique Flowers (This one sound's interesting)

Mish :0)
