Red/White/Blue Swap

12 1/2 inch UNFINISHED Red/ White/Blue sampler blocks.

Please use 100% pre-washed cotton (required) and make sure your blocks measure 12 ½".

You make 12 blocks, all alike and send them to me along with a self addressed, stamped envelope for return postage... what ever it cost to send it to me, it will cost to return your blocks to you...so be sure to put enough postage on your envelope.

Please let me know which block you will be making so we avoid having duplicate blocks.

I will send you back one of your blocks and one each of 11 different blocks..

Please mark EACH ONE of your blocks with a little slip of paper pinned to each block , or a sticky label can be used. Please include your message board id , your real name (optional) and the block name .

If you want to make multiple sets, just make sure you have 12 blocks of each pattern. You will receive back as many as you send.

Sign up closes May 15, 2010

Mail your blocks to Deb Watkins by May 31, 2010, please pm her for her address.

She will mail them back out by June 15, 2010 or as close to that as possible.

I want to do Goose Creek & Austin blocks from Quilters Cache.
I may do another set of something later if I have time.

Question: Do I need to do all 12 blocks of each pattern exactly the same colors?

NorBanaquilts 02-22-2010 02:41 AM

you can switch up the colors if you want.

Hi, I'm new to the group and would like to join the swap if that's OK. If so I'd like to do Crossroads 2 and Ribbons Two from Quilter's Cashe.

I go To The Sea To Breathe 02-24-2010 07:00 PM

I want to make the red, white and blue blocks also. Just don't know which ones to do.

BrendaB 02-25-2010 08:52 AM

I would also like to be part of this swap, but I'm rather inexperienced and have only done 9-patch and just learned to do triangles. From one of the posts, it sounded like there should not be any duplicates. Any ideas or opinions. Should I sit this one out?

Nancy in Louisiana 02-25-2010 09:10 AM

Nothing wrong with red/white/blue nine-patches as far as I'm concerned. I think they would look great in the patriotic quilt -- I like the one in your avatar.

Brenda,
There are a lot of simple blocks you can do. See examples below. If you need help pm me. We'd love to have you in the swap, it's open to ALL skill levels.

Grama Lehr 02-25-2010 09:30 AM

I'm also new, but I am having a great time with these swaps! Can I join? I would like to do a pin wheel block, is that ok? It's Forth of July-ish. Does it need to be solid colors? Or can it be Red with white stars? Or blue with white stripes?

NorBanaquilts 02-25-2010 09:32 AM

The only color requirement is that it be red/white/blue. Solids and/or prints.

Thank you. It is my first queen size I made for my son and daughter-in-law. They chose the colors and patterns (all rustic, outdoors types). I noticed several people named blocks from the Quilter's Cache, so I went there and got some ideas. I would love to participate if the 9-patch is okay, I will work with that. Now I'm so excited! :-) Thanks for not turning me away. :-)

How cool are you to help me out? Oh, thank you, thank you. I love your suggestions too. Can't wait to shop for the fabrics. Does anyone know offhand how much yardage is needed for 12 squares at 12-1/2 inches? (I have to go back and check if it is 12 or 12-1/2 and am thinking a yard of each? I always get extra, just don't want to get too little) You are all the best!

Barbm 02-25-2010 12:53 PM

sucker that I am- I'm in- Card Trick. I made this for a block exchange about 2 years ago and I did it in red, white and blue and I loved how it turned out.

If you get to doubles- let me know, I love doing the Ohio Star too.

NorBanaquilts 02-25-2010 01:23 PM

You could do two sets lol

I love the 9 patch (see my avatar too, hee hee). It's such a classic and think it would be beautiful in this color scheme. Hope I get one of yours in the swap!

Speaking of your avatar, I have studied and studied it trying to figure out how you got such beautiful colors. I sure would love to have one just like it. I think it is striking. :-)

Thank you so much! It's all reds, yellows, greens, and blues (both mediums and darks). A pretty controlled pallette but my favorite colors to work with.

I'd love to do this. It is my first swap ever. I'll do "Mr. Roosevelt's Necktie" for sure and maybe another when done with those.
