Well I sure wish I had some flamingos to send you way. Sorry, not a one. :(
|
I wish I could put my hands on the apron I made my senior year of high school. The fabric was bright blue with green foliage, tropical birds, and you guessed it, FLAMINGOS! A lady at church gave me the fabric. She had it in her stash and didn't have anything to do with it, so when they asked for donations to help make items for the state competition, that arrived in my hands along with 2 others I used to make a shirt and pair of culottes. Of course, back then my sewing was terrible because I lacked practice. I think I wore the outfit once & gave it away, but I wore that apron until I got too big for it. It was only made for up to about a size 12 or 14 waist. In hindsight, I should have made it with ties instead of a button closure.

I'm good with you letting me know if there is something you just don't really want. I usually do it randomly but I take into consideration allergies and shipping concerns. so if you really don't like a certain type of quilt I'll do my best to include that also when I set up the mailing list. No problem at all.
If you also post on here your preferences the person who is making her wh can take that into consideration in her choices also. that way there will be a wh that will have your colors or your likes. As it is all anonymous at this point it is open to interpretation for each one to decide if they want to use a mentioned like or colorway. So you may still end up with something that may not be your exact preference. That is just the risk you take when you join a non partner swap such as this. I would prefer to see everyone make what they want to make with no restrictions. But I don't have a problem with suggestions of what you would like to see. Just post a lot of pics and have fun!! |
I've just sent in my information, so here we go!
I love bright colors. I love marbles. I love the contrast of brights and black. Because "the man" is a professor at Auburn University, and as they say, we're "all in", a lot of our home decor is orange and blue, mixed with black, chrome, and earth tones. I also love batiks. I'm so excited to participate! |
ube-- wish i knew you when! i tossed 11 flamingos in tutus last spring! dh didn't see the humor in flamingos doing swan lake on the front lawn. i made the tutus with screening (also known as indoor/outdoor bird tulle, lol). and sprayed them all, you guessed it, flamingo pink. i thought they were quite fun!
d's m-- flo's pleased to see you here too.:D |

I love all the things I"ve seen posted lately!! Keep it up everyone! I know we'll see some fantastic wall hangings in Oct!!
|
Rhonda, I want to join, I thought I already had! I am working on some Art type sewing and I have an awesome idea for a wall hanging, Think Fall colors. Can we incorporate re used items? I do a lot of work with Denim but have never done anything here because of the restrictions on it not being "quilting fabric. I would love to do something with possibly denim or maybe some other kind of fabric. How fun that would be!
If you want I can post pictures first and if no one likes then, not a problem. |
Now Mary how do you make a fall theme out of denim? curiosity is going to get me now.. and some people are reusing items ie the potholders are becoming a wall hanging (disassembled of course). I know in the dq wall hangings you can use different fabrics and embelleshments (beads, buttons).. you should show us a picture now that you have teased us with your art quilt idea... (come one hurry up .. waiting.. waiting...)
|
Using the potholders actually came to me because I only use oven mitts but could only find sets that included potholders. I also have some very cool autumn fabric with grapes in it that I think will work as well.
Ube that block is terrific. I hate paper piecing but I do like the effect. I might try again.... Turkeys are fun but I personally like chickens!!! |
Hello, group. I would like to sign up for the October due wall hanging. I'm thinking fall/ Thanksgiving. I'm ready for crisp air verses the 90% humidity. I love the fall time of year and the wall hanging can transport me in mind.

Testing ..1..2..3...flop!
I used leftovers from a quilt I made to see about a wall hanging. Really really need a grape circle behind the girl so she stands out. Oh well next possibility.... PS Your turkeys are visiting me! We have a flamingo in the front garden and a turkey with his tail displayed and all puffed up was caught flirting with the flamingo!! |
Your little girl is adorable even on that background. Suggesion for standing out would be to do some black blanket stitch. Would that not bring her out from the background?
|
Well Applique....I absolutely love it! What's not to like? yes maybe some outline stitching....maybe not black blanket all the way around...but maybe darker versions of the corresponding colors. But truly it is lovely just the way it is!
|
@ post # 94: Applique, I like your idea. If you want to get her to stand out a bit more, may I suggest, if you can lift the lower edges of her and other areas where there would be natural shadows and add some slivers of gray tones to add some depth. If you can't lift the material, just cut it and lay it against the edge of the material of the arms and torso and legs. She is going to be really cute as she becomes more detailed. Look at some pictures that show shadows and watch where light and dark fall.

Okay do I have everyone up to this date that wants to join in? I don't want to miss anyone who asked me to add them in.
|
Just found this interesting swap and I want to join in please. Will PM you also. Hugs

I have 4 swappers from Wall Hanging Swap 3 that didn't get a wall hanging. All 4 people who were supposed to send have not answered my pms. Is there anyone willing to help me get some wall hangings done quickly to send to these swappers who didn't receive one?

Rhonda please do not do this on my account! I don't want someone to have to make an angel package for me and not receive something back in return. If the absentee ladies can keep one and not send one in return they need it far worse than I do. I have already moved on to the fall theme. As the saying goes, what comes around, goes around...and if they feel good about this, I'm okay with it too!

I am wondering if the two swappers who are in Australia have been in the areas that were hard hit by the weather they have had lately. I am surprised to not have heard from Little RoO at least. She was a great swapper last time. So there may be legit reasons why I haven't heard from them.
But I really think everyone should have a wallhanging that joined the swap. I remember when I was in the doll quilt Chele had quilting angels who helped to make sure everyone got one. |
Rhonda I can do one even though I am one of the ones who did not get a WH. Reason is that I was very anxious to receive a piece that I did not make. I knowcthat life gets in thecwsy for people and I bet those absentees are wringing their hands but I still think that everyone should receiveca WH. Send me an address and I will make one this wek.

I'll be happy to help out! If they would like something specific (applique) I can do it up, I think they deserve to get something they would really like. What's your pleasure? |
I am not in on this wall hanging swap, but being a swap angel is a blessing. I have been one before for a mug rug swap when I wasn't even a part of it, and the person who received was so happy. I love seeing what everyone makes on these swaps even if I am not in on that one at the time. This board is wonderful with many very special people on it.
|
Hi Rhonda: Do you have enough angels? If not, I'll be one for you...
|
I love the little girl! And the turkey! We raised a couple and they followed us like puppies and would even come when called!!! Your pics brought back memories of them...

OK I am updating on this thread even though it is in reference to Rhonda's 3rd wall hanging swap.
Jaba - everyone should get a wall hanging if they signed up for the swap. It is exciting to receive something that you know was made just for you. That being said, here's a picture of the one I am doing for you! Its a little big - 18 x 50 - but if you don't want to hang it, it will make a nice table runner. Its all layered and I will be FMQing it later after I finish job searching for the day. I really hope you like it..... |
Isn't that pretty? I love the inspirations here.
|
That is such a pretty wall hanging.
|
JNCT14, it looks fabulous! Love the way you put the white to make that diamond pop right out. Think it will give my dining room some explosion of color. Excited to see it up close and personal. Thank you so much for taking the time and the extra effort to make it for me. It will truly have a very "special" meaning in this house.
|
JNCT that is fabulous and so much better than anything I would have thrown together! LOL
