JNCT14 07-30-2013 06:44 AM

That's why I love these swaps. It gives me a chance to try out new ideas, patterns and colors and many times I like what I have made enough to do one for myself. For example, with Jaba's, I am going to make 3 panels in the same pattern and hang over my bed. We did the sampler quilt for Barb's 2.5" candy swap and there were several blocks that I really want to try. I bet that ube's will also be one that I want to try as well!

ube quilting 07-30-2013 11:51 AM

You make me blush.:D

Me too!! I have a cute little owl wall hanging (#3 swap) most done with applique. Need to put on borders and do the quilting. Wish I was good at quilting.....my sister usually LA my quilts. But I figure if the recipient can do better (and I KNOW she is a fantastic quilter unlike me) she can frog it and redo it! Maybe a sneak peek this weekend.

No worries ube, take as long as you need. I am just excited to be getting one and now I have motivation after jaba's to finish the baby quilt I am making and then make those panels!!!! I gotta post a pic of the baby quilt though - its too cute for words.

I am posting here and on the 3rd WH thread just in case. Our annual potato and corn festival started up this weekend and my job search is not realizing a lot of results so I was feeling a little blue yesterday. However, I went to the mailbox for our deliveries, and what do I find from Jaba???? The loveliest package with a wonderful note, a bar of hazelnut Milksa chocolate (my FAVORITE) and a fat quarter of quilting tags!!!! It definitely lifted my spirits!!!! Many thanks Jaba!!!!!!!

DustysMomma 08-03-2013 03:35 AM

Ooh! Milka is gooooood! Have you had the Milka hot chocolate? It's awesome too! They make it in the Tassimo coffeemaker pods. When we first got our Tassimo, it was only available in Germany, so when we went to my boyfriend's family's in Denmark, we made a special trip across the border to Flensborg to get hot chocolate. Broight home 10 or 12 boxes of it & used it with espresso pods to make cafe mocha. MMMM!

We have some of the most wonderful quilting friends here. They offer advice, listen to us complain and sometimes whine, and lift our spirits when we need it. Pep talks and advice are free here or paid in quilted goods, all made with love and friendship, often going above and beyond what is asked for in our little swaps. I don't know what I would do without this group of ladies sometimes, even though I've only been here a little over a year. :)

jaba 08-03-2013 04:52 AM

JNCT14 since I couldn't give you a hug for your thoughtfulness, I had to send it via mail this way. Glad it was a little surprise that made you happy!

ube quilting 08-03-2013 09:35 AM

@ post 132, JNCT14: Wow, how nice jaba.

I am wondering, does everyone here know what a haiku is? There will be one included on JNCT14s 3rd WH. I am working on the WH right this minute. I have the back pieced and now planning the quilting.
And dots. It has lots of dots.:D

Is potato & corn festival what I think it it is?
Also, never heard of Milka.

My stars, JNCT14

yes, that is my favorite type of poem to compose! It is a Japanese style of poetry....Minimalist if you will....Google it to see the parameters.

JNCT14 08-04-2013 05:12 AM

WOW that is so cool ube!!! Milksa is a European chocolate brand - I used to get it all the time when I was working in France and Italy. I was really glad to find in USA.
Came home last night after 12 hours over a hot grill at Potato/Corn Fest. Cheerleaders parked cars and worked the hamburger booth as one of our fundraising efforts. They also did 2 exhibitions. North Branford Thunderbird cheerleaders ROCK. But I am not eating a hamburger or hotdog for a long time......:P

jaba 08-04-2013 05:36 AM

They usually start out fun those fests and fairs....then about noon it's a when is this day going to be over feeling, at least for me. Are you a sponsor for the group Janice?

ube quilting 08-04-2013 05:57 AM

@ JNCT14: Hi, Well, the quilting is done on the WH:D. Now for the binding!

P&C fest sounds like Fall fests around here. Fun to attend, hard for the volunteers! Hope you have some fun!
peace

ube quilting 08-04-2013 01:29 PM

@ JNCT14: I would like to announce that your quilt is done:D! Do you want to see it or do you want a surprise? It will be in Tuesdays mail!

I really hope you like it, not knowing style or colors you like, it is all guess work which is part of the fun. I know I like it!:D a lot!

will post pictures soon!! qm i signed up for the 4tg wh? what's my name again?? lol, oh, that's right, grammi

JNCT14 08-05-2013 02:39 AM

Ube I am going to love it, I know that!!! Don't post - I would love to be surprised and then I will post once it is hanging on the wall I reserved for it.

For the PoCo Fest as it is lovingly referred to, I am on the board of the North Branford Cheerleaders (my DD is captain this year) and it is a fundraiser for us. The town pays the sports and activity teams for parking cars and we were also offered a percent of the take if we manned the hamburger booth. It was a lot of work but fun. All that cooking took me back to my years as a line cook before I graduated college. Yikes, the grease!!!!

Elisabrat 08-05-2013 04:42 AM

Nancia your not supposed to eat the WHOLE cake! unless no one is looking that is. I was going to make the wall hanging with this bear panel I had but now its a round robin so I am thinking since fall is coming.. pumpkins lots of pumpkins. I love pumpkins. not jack o lanterns but just orange things. I am a big kid inside. The smell of cinnamon, apples.. yum. pumpkin pie double yum.. fall air.. crisp cool on your face.. oh yeah. My favorite time of the year is fall because its like its setting the stage for all the marvelous things to come.. Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas! New year, Valentines day Easter then... boring.. so fall yes its a grand time of year. The wall hanging will definitely be pumpkins. so hopefully whom ever gets this one loves pumpkins as much as I do. :)

ube quilting 08-05-2013 11:57 AM

I remember the 'grease days' too. High school, Burgerland in Hightstown NJ. Best boss I ever had. What memories:D. And every Friday night stock car races.
thanks for that!
peace

createfourpaws 08-05-2013 12:09 PM

Almost time to get the simmer pot our for the cinnamon, apples, allspice and a small about of oranges to sent the house up. I love these smells. I no longer burn candles as I keep forgetting to blow them out and when working with oxygen...not a good thing. I will probably be on oxygen soon so good to get out of that habit right now.

I love seeing the changing of the leaves, the wonderful colors that comes out. then add some pumpkins in the mix.....make for a beautiful display.

Elisabrat 08-05-2013 06:30 PM

hey my sis gave me this sent pod thing you put this wax thing in and the ceramic holder is plugged in. it releases scents for 2 or 4 hours and turns itself off :) no candles no fires no worries! I forget to turn them off to then fall asleep taking a nap or go to the store and ah heck forgot to blow that candle out. I no longer burn them either. one little pod and I am happy. they give like 40 hours of scent off each one at 5.00 each worth my household sanity and the cats thank me too :) My son now uses his all the time as does my daughter. they love it!

I think frying food for any amount of hours would be a cure all for ever eating it again. I used to nuke bacon for my x every single day for five years. half a pound. he ate it all. skinny healthy bugger. I couldn't stand the smell after that. took me 5 more years before I cooked one piece of it again.

I can't decide what I want to make. If anyone is up for something cute and girly, I do have this started though. It's the perfect size for a little girl's room or for use as a car seat quilt if you add ties to it. The top & bottom look blue in the photo, but it's really a very pretty rich purple.

Dusty'sMomma that is super cute - it falls under the category of 'Things that Make You Go AWWWW'. I have no little girls anymore but I bet that will be treasured by its recipient. So speaking of, I had to get this project done before I could start my next wall hanging - one of our cheer moms is going to be a grandma in October so I made this for her DD. It was done with a 20 strip jelly roll and some extras from my stash.

How cute! I love that it's so girly without being over the top. The panel I posted, I actually have 8 of them, and they came with a coordinating panel to use for the back. I'm thinking if I use this, it might be the first guinea pig for my new sewing/embroidery machine's quilting ability. I have to make a car seat quilt similar to the one below for my best friend's brother's new baby, due Thanksgiving day, as well though, so it might be a matter of which project I finish first. The one in the photo is one I made for my boyfriend's nephew last fall. I have enough leftovers of the jelly roll and charm pack to do 2 more, maybe 3. I did just the last initial because I wanted to be sure that they could use it for future children as well, since it's not going to be usable beyond when his legs stick out the bottom, lol.

I'm another one with no age appropriate children to share this adorable panel with:(. Those youth quilts are all really cool.

@ JNCT14: "it's" on the way!:D

JNCT14 08-06-2013 01:22 PM

I am going to lurk by the mailbox!!!!!! ;-)

nancia 08-06-2013 02:32 PM

very cute, you guys! i just had a great thought(yeah, i know that's a first, lololol!) and the fabric for it is at home. but does anyone prefer bright colors? that's my hint!

ube quilting 08-06-2013 03:07 PM

I like bright sun saturated colors that almost hurt your eyes. Lime /acid green, orange, melon, quirky and fun

I like sea glass and poppy colors

I like civil war repros

I like feed sacks/ 30s repro

I like I like I like....... it all!
peace

EDIT : I like roses, roses and more more roses too:D

JNCT14 08-07-2013 12:42 AM

Hi nancia I agree with ube I like everything! I will be waiting to see what you do with your bright colors!

nancia 08-08-2013 08:24 PM

i like it all, too, but i most like brights and batiks. i wish i'd weitten down my good idea! now i'll either have to remember it or think up a new one. pooh!

Elisabrat 08-09-2013 05:48 AM

Nancia your teasing, you like brights???? YOU??? wow shocker there :)

I am full of good ideas not so full of good energy. I picked up some grand fabrics at this incredibly cheap website on sale the other day 8 yrds of good ideas. now to turn them into magically delicious projects. turkeys! skunks! honeysuckle flowers! things I absolutely had to have with no projects in mind. Does everyone do this? just see something pretty and buy it without a thought as to what it might end up? sigh.. I do this a lot. no planning what so ever. lucky for me the fabric was a whopping 18.00 for 8 yrds and 5 for shipping so it was semi affordable non planning ;)

nancia 08-09-2013 08:35 AM

brat-- glad i could come up with something to shock and amaze you! lol, like yeah!
anyway, i have set up an area for quilting in my room. now that the birthday is over (and everyone was wowed! by "the dress") i can look to making a quilt top. today , however, we are having lunch with all three kids and adding our ddil and dgd, the world's cutest 2 yr old! olivia was in her room and had a problem. all i heard was this little voice--"i need some help". "i need some help" and before i could get out of bed she was running to the kitchen. her mom was saying, can you use your words? and i jumped right in, "she did. she said, i need some help" so olivia and i went back to the bedroom and she showed me the dark closet and said, "i can't get it out". so i reached in--who knows what i was going to find, or was going to find ME--and pulled out.......(drum roll, please)..........a shopping cart! truly, a disaster averted! lol! she does have amazing vocabulary and links up to 7 words in a sentence correctly. she takes after her daddy (since i didn't know her mommy as a baby i can't speak for her, but i'm sure she was bright , too.) many/most of her words are very clear, with a few ne ones that i have to ask or look for context.
well, since olivia is armed and ready to go shopping i need to shower and head to the mall with her. (yes, brat, i will dress before leaving, however....since i plan on trying on clothes maybe i should just go clean, and add clothing as i find it! buy-buy!
