Well those are fabulous fabrics! I really like the Kansas fabric! Is that from this years state shop hops? Would love to get my hands on some! That is my families home state. :)

ssnare 07-03-2013 07:33 PM

Mama, that is lovely fabric. What are you making for your center?

TheMamaHauser 07-03-2013 07:36 PM

It was for the shop hop back in 2009, I believe. I bought 5 yards and then never did anything with it - so I figure I can use it in my center and send some along for my team members to incorporate.

I found this pin on Pinterest: http://pinterest.com/pin/243898136042838241/

I drew it out in EQ and it should be 24" square when I finish. I believe the pattern is called "All Hallows"

Elisabrat 07-04-2013 03:40 AM

I did that block for my quilt for quilters center. I loved it. You will too Kelly. I found the pattern on mc calls quilting. tons of free patterns there also. I havent decided on my fabrics yet. best get on it!

Nexxus831 07-04-2013 02:07 PM

I have it narrowed down to four block patterns now just need to choose one. I can then move on to picking out the fabrics. Thank goodness we have until Oct 1st.

Haha, that's exactly what I was thinking. Initially when all the discussion was going on I thought "Yikes" do I need that ready in the next couple of weeks? Sure was a relief when I remembered the rules said October.:D

travelinggramma 07-04-2013 08:23 PM

Oh Me Oh My - I have been stressing to get my block and I have until October???? I thought that was when the first rows needed to be done and sent. Whew - how do you spell relief???
I did make a paperpieced block but I wasn't happy with it ... so now I can relax a bit!

TheMamaHauser 07-04-2013 09:05 PM

Sorry everyone... I wasn't trying to rush you! I start student teaching at the end of August and so I've got between now and then to get the "must do's" done... I want to make sure that I can keep up if things get a little overwhelming at the beginning of the semester. I'm a planner and a prepper - if I can have a plan, a back up, and a back up back up then I'm ok and I can sleep at night. I've got my center about 85% together - by tomorrow night I'll have a picture to show!

wanda lou 07-05-2013 12:13 AM

very pretty MamaH, I am still picking and choosing fabric..

paperpieceme 07-05-2013 11:04 AM

i made what i thought was going to be my block today. its just shy of 18inches. its the perfect size for a doll quilt, and the border fabric is too pretty to trim down, so i am on to plan B.

ssnare 07-05-2013 12:43 PM

paperpieceme, you can add a border to your block and make it come out to 18 1/2" or 21 1/2" or 24 1/2".

Dragonfly Nana 07-05-2013 02:38 PM

Since this will be my third round robin I was having a hard time trying to come up with an idea for center/theme. I went out to pick up material for a wedding gift quilt and it hit me - Opposites Attract which lead to the purchase of black on white and white on black FQ to make my center. Now to find a block.......

Nexxus831 07-05-2013 09:42 PM

Oh I can't wait to see your idea come to light. I chose my block now to choose fabrics. Ughhhh

i dont have any more coordinating fabric, i recieved it free with an order from one of the online shops. so i made plan b and its a little shy too so on to plan c. dont worry i am having a good time and i have plenty of places they cand be used.

Cogito 07-06-2013 02:55 AM

I am contemplating using one of my gram's stray blocks....she was a prolific quilter and I have many of her beautiful quilts...all hand pieced and hand quilted...so perfect you would swear the piecing was machine stitched! The last RR I participated in (15 yrs ago!) I used one and loved it! She has been gone since 1994. Do you think it will be a struggle to find appropriate matching fabrics for a vintage block? She probably made this block in the 70's I'm guessing. But it isn't wild, lol!

wanda lou 07-06-2013 03:04 AM

I think it would work perfect, i was thinking of using a stray block myself.

Elisabrat 07-06-2013 03:52 AM

It all depends how you feel if the fabric is poly/cotton which was all the rage back then. Fabric can be matched pretty easily I think.

I have my block picked out, its a very pretty block that Oldcatlady made for my boom 8 that I want to replicate. Now to pick the four fabrics.. such a horrible terrible job that staring at your fabrics and.. touching all of them!

oldcatlady 07-06-2013 04:05 AM

Brat, that block is #568 in the Quiltmaker's 100 Block vol 6, I did a solid square in the middle instead of the checkerboard. Very easy block to do with big results :)

Duplicate....

alikat110 07-06-2013 05:01 AM

If there is still room for one more, I'd love to join the small group????? Sent pm to ssnare and TheMamaHouser....

alikat110 07-06-2013 07:13 AM

Yeah, just got confirmation that I am in!!!!! Now to decide on my center block. Love paperpiecing, will start there.

Now, a little about me:

I am a registered nurse, working as a Nurse Director over an Orthopeadic Med/Surg unit. I love being a nurse....could not imagine doing anything else. I am married 16 yrs to a wonderful man that I picked up in a Wal-Mart store in Paris, Tx. He is also an RN, working as a case manager for a Children Hosp. We have 3 beautiful children and you will probably get sick of my bragging about them....I am a proud and predjudice mother. I learned to sew at a very young age from both of my grandmothers, including quilting and am almost exclusively a quilter. I make quilts for local charities. Am not currently part of a guild....not able to fit in my very busy schedule. Therefore, I consider our online community my guild. That's enough for now!

Elisabrat 07-06-2013 11:07 AM

Me too, this is where I go to get my quilting fix. That and to Jaba's house :) I appreciate the heads up on the block oldcatlady! thanks!! wow your good, how did you remember which block you sent?

I need to do a round on another round robin today so it can go in Mondays mail. I love my fabrics I chose to go with it just on the fence on what pattern to do. the round before was a solid border so no solid border for this one.. decisions decisions decisions. Glad you got in Alikat!

Cogito 07-06-2013 11:15 AM

Sorry, excuse my "newness" to the group....so do we send fabric with our center? Or as the person adding borders, do we get to choose from our own stash?
thanks, Cogito

------------

We each make our own center block - can be up to 12" x 18" or can be 12" x 12" if you prefer. This is not the same as a boom so except for the center block, you don't send any other fabric. As you mail it forward, each person in your group will add a border. Check the first page for rules, details, etc. Hope that helps - -

Jane

ssnare 07-06-2013 11:38 AM

When this thread started, our group had 6 people. So the centers were 12 1/2" to 18 1/2". Because more people have requested to be in a group, we are having 5 in a group. So now the centers may be from 12 1/2"- 24 1/2".

Thanks Jane, I did read all of the rules but that particular issue was not clear to me so I appreciate the clarification.

Elisabrat 07-06-2013 01:32 PM

I thought it was originally smaller phew I wanted to do a 24.5 block but 18 would have been ok just extra rounds when it got home. My son in law to be lol is over 6' tall so he needs a longer quilt for curling up with. My girl is so easy! she is 5'3 so short is not an issue. I have already made her three however so share the wealth time I suppose. She says he steals it when they are on the couch. NOT my babies quilt!!!

The reason for the choice in the size of our centers - 12x12 to 12x18 is because several of us - me included - would prefer a rectangular quilt rather than a square quilt.

Jane

Elisabrat 07-07-2013 06:46 AM

I like both shapes :) I am so happy to see so many players have joined.

jaba 07-07-2013 06:51 AM

Worked on my center yesterday so I could look at it awhile and see if I wanted to change my mind. Didn't even think about the pattern just liked the looks of it. Right 109 pieces later, what was I thinking??? and then after it was all done 2 sections sewn in upside down. Yuk!! Seam ripper today for sure.

Oh Jaba, what a bummer! BUT, I sure would love to see you share your center, it sounds awesome!

Wow, I love it! Great fabrics!.....I really love the golds/yellows.

jaba 07-07-2013 06:15 PM

Thanks Cognito, I like it okay but i don't love it. Yellow is really not my color, but I liked the peony print. This is one of those vacation fabrics I saw and had to have it. Thanks for liking it, I love the pattern.

Jaba - I love your center. I could see it going into the rusts, golds, and browns if you wanted to "tone down" the yellow.
