TheMamaHauser 12-21-2012 08:50 PM

Ok, thanks Paula. I will email her directly to make sure everything is ok.

TheMamaHauser 12-30-2012 09:49 PM

Kirsten (Texasunset) is experiencing some significant medical issues and is going to drop from our group. Melinda (Nexxus831) has offered to step in to take her place. So, we are still at 4 members, but we're all confirmed and going to make it work!

Paula, Kirsten is going to send your row (which she rec'd earlier this month) to Melinda. So, the rotation will go like this:

Me (TheMamaHauser) to Paula (Dragonfly Nana)
Paula (Dragonfly Nana) to Melinda (Nexxus831)
Melinda (Nexxus831) to Evelyn (ebellot)
Evelyn (ebellot) to me (TheMamaHauser)

I will get Paula and Melinda's addresses in a separate PM.

I propose that we alter our shipping dates a bit since we're a month behind now but also short a person.

Previously, we were to ship Dec 1, Feb 1, Apr 1, July 1, and Sep 1.

How do you ladies feel about shifting this by 1 month?

We could do Mar 1, May 1, Aug 1, and then we don't need to adjust the last date since there are only 4 of us.

Please respond to this via PM so I know you're aware of the change.

If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know and I'll do my best to figure things out as quickly as possible!

I am wondering the pattern I was going to ask for my blocks is the granny squares and it uses 7 strips of 2.5 so that would make my blocks 14.5. I know the blocks were only supposed to be 12.5 could it be possible for mine to be a little bigger? If not I completely understand. Thanks for everything guys. Also I will send the directions for the squares and they are super super easy

Nexxus831 12-31-2012 12:41 AM

oooooopppppppssss the squares are only 9.5" would it be ok? The blocks are super easy to make. I will send the pattern and the outer colors that I want for the theme. This is a picture of one that I made. I will send the strips of the white so that no one has to worry about getting the matching one. If you allow this I thank you so very much.

Welcome to our group Melinda! I am fine with making this specific block for you.
Am I correct in that you want the each center to be scrappy and white all around?
Also, if that is the regular white by Kona - I have plenty. tee hee

Nexxus831 12-31-2012 08:23 AM

You are absolutely correct the center will be scrappy but the white is Kona Snow which is a little off. I don't want anyone to be out any expenses and I have plenty already cut in 2.5 strips

TheMamaHauser 12-31-2012 12:23 PM

I am fine with whatever size you tell me to make.

On a related note, I cannot wait for Wednesday! Midget (my 8 y/o) goes back to school and I have exactly 8 days of "freedom" until my classes start back up on the 14th. I'm going to hopefully get both my rows done (I'm in another group, too) and finish up a few random UFO's that are staring at me and taking up valuable space on the shelves.

I downgraded to 14 credit hours this semester (from 18 last semester) and only 60 observational hours. I'm hoping it goes much smoother than the fall!

Dragonfly Nana 12-31-2012 04:44 PM

Woo hoo - Freedom! Motherhood is great but I remember how much "me" time is much needed too.
Enjoy the time Kelly, and with the cut back on you credits you might be able to breath a little more.

I truly don't know how you do it. I was a working mother of one so I can't imagine how you do it with more than one and a hubby to boot!

Dragonfly Nana 12-31-2012 04:47 PM

Melinda, thanks for the clarity. You are right that Kona Snow is not a bright white - more of a softer, off white.
I mixes well with most prints - but not "white" whites.
I think it is going to be fun making your block. I have lots of "scraps" that will go into them perfectly.

Nexxus831 12-31-2012 05:13 PM

woohooo I am excited to see them all come back now if I could just stop getting sick I could sew.

I only have the one - an 8 y/o son. But, I also have an active duty husband who deploys soon and a dog (Alice).

Dragonfly Nana 01-01-2013 09:17 AM

Sorry Kelly, I thought you said you had a couple children - I must have been thinking of Alice :) I know my fur babies are like kids now that my son is grown.

TheMamaHauser 01-01-2013 02:49 PM

It's ok... I probably did. OR I referred to my husband in terms of "My 8 y/o son and his 13 y/o father." Which is actually a standard statement that I use pretty frequently.

ebellot 01-01-2013 06:26 PM

Welcome Melinda I will do my best to make you a nice block but I make a lot of mistakes cutting because of my sight so if I need more of the white could you send me more I dont use a lot of white in my quilting so I dont have a stach of solid white

Nexxus831 01-01-2013 07:37 PM

ebell.....I will send you plenty of the strips. It uses just 2.5 inch strips. I can even send you the strips if it would make it easier on you.

TheMamaHauser 01-01-2013 09:15 PM

Out of curiosity, does your granny square use 2.5" strips? I am cutting another quilt and had some left-over strips that would look really awesome together - I will hold them for your row if they require 2.5".

Nexxus831 01-01-2013 09:23 PM

Yes they sure do. They are pretty easy blocks to put together.

Hi everyone I am a little confussed Melinda you will send to me as soon as you finsh than I will send to Kelly by March 1 or I will not get a row until March

Nexxus831 01-09-2013 10:34 AM

I will send my row to you as soon as possible. I just got out of the hospital so I am hoping to have mine done within the next week. I will ship it off to you then. I am not sure when the next mailing deadline is for the second row, I think that might be the March 1st one. Does that help?

Dragonfly Nana 01-09-2013 03:03 PM

The next mail date is March 1st per the PM from Kelly:

So, the rotation will go like this:

Me (TheMamaHauser) to Paula (Dragonfly Nana)
Paula (Dragonfly Nana) to Melinda (Nexxus831)
Melinda (Nexxus831) to Evelyn (ebellot)
Evelyn (ebellot) to me (TheMamaHauser)

Yes - Melinda is going to get a row out to you ASAP. Then, our next mailing date will be March 1.

Nexxus831 01-09-2013 09:14 PM

Evelyn,

Would it be easier if I sent you the pattern and one of my squares along with the border fabric. That way you can get started and then I will send the four additional ones on as soon as I can. What do you think of that idea?

Melinda

ebellot 01-10-2013 05:43 PM

Melinda that would be great . I dont want you to get all stressed out so if you cant that is fine. Which every way I will get it done. Thanks

Nexxus831 01-10-2013 05:53 PM

Evelyn,
Ok no problem I will drop it in the mail on Monday and I completely understand about not wanting to feel behind.

I am so happy that we're all getting along. Which is not to say that I know another group that is not getting along. It just makes me feel a smile inside of my chest when things are running smoothly.

Evelyn,
I finished up on block tonight and will work on getting the directions printed out. Since I am asking for a specific white kona and pattern be used I will be sending the white with the package. Please if any of you run out just let me know and I can send you more or you can get the Kona Snow. Thanks for letting me join in with the fun of you ladies.

Melinda

QuilterMomma 01-11-2013 03:45 PM

Just snooping for ideas and I love that block Melinda! That is very pretty.

Nexxus831 01-11-2013 04:21 PM

Thank you Quiltermomma......the center is called "granny square" and it is nice to use for scraps. Then I just added the border with the corner stones.

ebellot 01-12-2013 10:33 AM

Melinda I love your block. Hope I can make your next row as pretty as your row

Dragonfly Nana 01-12-2013 08:31 PM

Melinda your block is beautiful. I can't wait to see a bunch of them together - it will be such a happy and spring like quilt.

Nexxus831 01-12-2013 08:58 PM

Thank you ladies. I am going to go to the post office on Monday and send out a few things so I will send this block and the white fabric with directions to you Evelyn. I will love your blocks because it will be made with love.

Ok made another block and then set them side by side ....what do you think

Dragonfly Nana 01-13-2013 07:38 AM

Very pretty Melinda. I can't wait to work on some blocks for you.

How wide are the strips on the sides? how big are the corner stones?
I have been setting aside some 2 1/2" squares for your block as I am working on other projects so I would love to set some strips and corners aside also.

If I do it now I should be ready to sew when your row comes to me.

Nexxus831 01-13-2013 02:29 PM

Paula.......the strips are 2.5 inch wide but the border once I sew the two strips together I trim it down to a total of 2.5 inch so each side ends up being like 1.25

Love it!

So, now I am wondering, do we want to do a random-partner 5th row? What I was thinking is this: after we finish the 4th row - I will send you a new (maybe) address to send the row so that you still come back with 5 rows.

What do you guys thing of that idea?

Nexxus831 01-13-2013 07:44 PM

I am not sure I understand but you send me an address and I will send

I just mean that we'll each send to different members for the last row. I'll mix up the order or something so we each get a row other than our own for the finishing swap.
