Evelyn,

I got a package with the directions, about a yard of the snow kona, a bunch of the 2.5in snow kona strips and my one block. I will get it out in the mail tomorrow with tracking and insurance. Whatever you don't use on the fabric just pass it along to the next person since I am asking for a specific fabric I am going to provide it. Thanks and hope you all enjoy making these blocks.

Nexxus831 01-14-2013 01:47 PM

ok got the package sent off the tracking number is 03123190000237995976 and then I also insured it for $100 bucks I wasn't sure if I was supposed to do that but I figured it wouldn't hurt.

Melinda

Just curious - did you ladies wash your fabric prior to making your initial rows? I didn't - but I put a note in with the row. I am asking more than anything because I won't wash if you didn't, but I will wash if you did. I just need to plan.

Nexxus831 01-14-2013 04:07 PM

I didn't wash because mine use 2.5in strips

Dragonfly Nana 01-14-2013 06:05 PM

I didn't because I used FQs

Dragonfly Nana 01-14-2013 06:09 PM

As for the last row swap - I am up for making another row for whomever.

Ok Everyone I got the four other blocks done. I will send these off to Evelyn so that she has all five. Please don't attach the blocks together just make them and then I will mix and match them up when they get home. Hope everyone is having a great week.

Dragonfly Nana 01-17-2013 05:23 AM

Melinda those are just great. Wish I had thought of it.

I do want to suggest that we each pin our set of blocks together with a note containing our name so that you know which ones came from whom.

ebellot 01-17-2013 06:09 AM

Hi everone I did wash my fabric but if you dont attach my row to the next row you dont have to wash your fabric. For the last row that sounds good to me. Melinda I made a practice block and I did good. It looks like yours. I just love your blocks Glad I dont have to wash fabric. I never wash my fabric first. I have to go to La. My brother has cancer in his kindy also. Dr wants to take out his kindy but the Dr is not a cancer Dr. need to convince him to see a cancer Dr. Will be back Monday Have a nice weekend

Dragonfly Nana 01-17-2013 06:45 PM

So sorry to hear about your brother, Evelyn. My prayers are with you and your family as you begin this difficult journey.

Nexxus831 01-17-2013 07:10 PM

Oh prayers to your brother and his family. Don't worry about us we will be here when you get back. Also I will send out the other four blocks to you and glad you were able to make a block with ease. It really isn't a hard pattern. Dragonfly Nana your right pin all your blocks together so I know who made what. Next week I will start on the star blocks. Should be fun

Dragonfly Nana 01-17-2013 08:21 PM

Kelly your blocks are gorgeous!

Nexxus831 01-17-2013 08:31 PM

Paula....I am kinda confused on how to do your signature dragonflys. I don't know why I am confused but do you think you could better explain it to me

Dragonfly Nana 01-18-2013 04:25 AM

Sure - I draw the dragonfly on applique paper (I made myself some templates a while ago) then choose a light colored fabric scrap from the ones I used in the quilt to adhere it to.

When the quilting is mostly done I attach the applique to the back in a corner where I won't be quilting by using a half ladder stitch on my machine. Some people call the stitch by another name but I can't remember what right now.

Then I finish quilting, bind it, and then I write on it with a pigma pen and press the dragonfly to set the ink before I wash it.
Hope that helps.

Nexxus831 01-18-2013 03:36 PM

so do we just sign one wing and put it back in the bag?

Yes - please choose one fabric that you used in the row for me, iron a wing to the back side of that fabric and then sign the front. I will trim them up when the come back and attach them all to a body that I make.
I guess since we only have four members I will be the fourth wing and the date will go in the body.
Thanks for asking.

girlscouts1 01-19-2013 06:58 PM

melinda, I would love it if you would post the instructions for the block on line.

Melinda, I have my row for Kelly complete. Is it OK if I ship it to you next week?

TheMamaHauser 01-20-2013 11:45 AM

Paula, I am going to put Evelyn's row in the mail probably on Tuesday (I don't think we have mail tomorrow for President's Day). I'll let you know for sure once it's out!

Dragonfly Nana 01-20-2013 12:37 PM

Thanks Kelly. There is NO mail on Monday - and I have the day off :) so I hope to get a lot of sewing done!

Dragonfly Nana 01-20-2013 12:53 PM

Ladies, I just PMs Kelly with an idea about our last row. This is the NEW plan:

Since we all still have the 1st row we could each make one extra block for it and send it loose from the other rows.

That way the owner would get back 4 complete rows and 3 loose blocks. They can make two more to finish the row putting them in any order they want to finish out the quilt.

It would also save on having to ship another time.

Nexxus831 01-20-2013 01:03 PM

Absolutely ship ahead. I have three of your blocks cut out and will hopefully sew them today and then finish up the other two.

LOVE this idea....and we all haven't shipped off yet so it's the perfect time to make that decision.

Glad you agree Melinda. Kelly thought it made sense too. Now we just have to wait until Evelyn checks in after she returns from seeing her brother, but I don't think she will have a problem with it.

ebellot 01-21-2013 05:37 AM

I am back I received your block in the mail and just love your blocks Melinda cant waite to get started. Kelly the blocks are pertty. Have to go to work now. Takecare everyone

Dragonfly Nana 01-23-2013 05:07 PM

I finished my extra block for Kelly last night and put the whole kit and kaboodle in the mail to Melinda today. Hopefully she will have it by Saturday.

TheMamaHauser 01-24-2013 05:41 PM

Ok, I have Evelyn's row (and her +1) ready to go. I know our mailing dates are all changed, so Paula if you want it, I can send it now. If you don't, I can wait. To be honest, I probably won't mail it until after the Feb 1 paycheck.

Dragonfly Nana 01-25-2013 03:42 PM

Kelly - Ok with me - send when you are ready.

Nexxus831 01-25-2013 05:05 PM

Paula, I wanted to let you know that I received your package today. Oh those all look so beautiful. I have almost all your blocks cut out but haven't gotten to sewing them yet right now. I started getting sick again so I am laying low and trying to take it easy. Guess it is my bodys way of telling me to slow down. So I am. I have the rest of my blocks packaged up just need to send them out to you Evelyn.

Dragonfly Nana 01-26-2013 08:44 PM

Melinda - Thank you for letting me know they arrives and the praise. Please listen to you body and get the rest you need. The next ship date is March so don't rush - I have Evelyn to do first any way.
I was sick over Thanksgiving and pushed had to get back to work. I was in for a week and then back out again for 4 days with the nasty stuff going around this year.

Nexxus831 01-30-2013 05:08 PM

I have two blocks complete for Evelyn's and lots of squares set aside for Melinda's

Just for eye candy sake - this is one of the "other" things I have been working on. While this picture was before quilting and binding it is all I have as I was in a rush to finish and ship to my niece in time for her wedding shower so her guests could sign in the borders.
She has since reported that it was such a hit that no one would sign it - LOL They all posed for a picture with her holding the quilt and signed a page for her wedding album instead.

Note: the skyline on the second row is Paris: where her boyfriend/fiance proposed

TheMamaHauser 01-30-2013 07:39 PM

Paula that's absolutely gorgeous. How did you do the skyline? And how did you do the bottom tier?
