Scrap Swap! Sign-up ends February 7, 2012

:D Let's have a Scrap Swap!

Anyone working on postage stamp quilts, crazy quilts, piecing projects, or wall art hangings are always in need of scrap pieces. Because so many of us are in need…we're having a swap.

Number of participants will be limited to 25.

Sign-Up begins February 1[SUP]st [/SUP]and ends February 7, 2012
Mailing deadline is February 14th for US and international.

Description:

Participants fill a Flat Rate Envelope stuffed with scraps. You can send your scraps to me the cheapest way possible, but you must include a postage stamp of $5.15 for return postage.

Scraps should be 100% cotton (NO FLANNEL)

Minimum size would be 2 x 2” squares and/or 1” strips.
Any irregular cut pieces are acceptable as long as a 2 x 2” square can be cut from it.

Maximum size would be a FQ.

Please label your package with your board name and state/country.

Flat Rate Envelope should be full. My post office will accept a stuffed envelope as long as I’m able to tape it closed.

You can send your scraps to me the cheapest way possible, but you must include a postage stamp of $5.15 for return postage. Scraps will NOT be swapped if you do not include a stamp for return postage.

Only send scraps you would want to receive. If you aren't sure, do not include it.

Please graciously accept what you receive.

Remember, this is a scrap swap. There are no guarantees as to what you will receive. If, for some reason, you are not happy with your scrap package, please keep it to yourself. NO public complaints or criticisms of other swappers, or items received.

Coordinated by: Twisted Quilter (If you want to be added to this group activity, please send me a private message.)

bookworm 02-01-2012 07:35 AM

Why is it 5.15 for postage? Last I looked flat rate is 4.95

Twisted Quilter 02-01-2012 08:22 AM

Postal rates went up in January.

dd 02-01-2012 04:57 PM

I want to join. Guess I need to send you a PM with my info. It didn't say that but I'm just assuming.

Twisted Quilter 02-01-2012 06:03 PM

4 down, 21 to go! Packages can be mailed whenever you're ready. Send me a PM for the address.

ntaylor 02-01-2012 06:38 PM

so, if we stuff that envelope like crazy, we will get the similar amount back when swapped???

SandyinZ4 02-01-2012 06:57 PM

Okay...count me in! :-)

Twisted Quilter 02-01-2012 07:02 PM

No guarantee, but I'll try to swap envelopes that are similar in size.

walk-n-roll 02-02-2012 08:22 AM

Just went to the post office to get my envelope. I am ready to see how much I can get to fit inside.

Twisted Quilter 02-02-2012 03:19 PM

I've got a couple of sandwich size baggies with little 'snipets' (1/2" x 2" or longer). If anyone wants one, send me a PM and I'll include it in your return envelope, if I can get it in. :)

Twisted Quilter 02-02-2012 05:35 PM

WooHooooooooooo...10 down and 15 to go! ;)

dd 02-03-2012 05:28 AM

I'm going to the post office today for my envelope. I also need to send a pkg to my SIL in Kuwait. So just a stamp but not the return envelope, right? Twisted Quilter - I need you to PM me your address so I can mail this to you.
Thanks

Twisted Quilter 02-03-2012 07:36 AM

All PM's answered. No need to include the envelope for return mailing, I picked up envelopes yesterday while at the post office. Return postage stamp(s) should be $5.15.

NCquilter 02-03-2012 03:47 PM

Awesome! I'd love to join. Will send a PM

chell58 02-03-2012 08:12 PM

I just joined Quilting Board .What is a PM?

Havplenty 02-03-2012 09:02 PM

pm is a private message. if you click on someone's name in a thread one of the choices will be private message. these are used when we respond to swaps and need to send our private info such as mailing addresses, etc. also when you only want to chat with one person, you would send them a private message.

try clicking on your name and you will see the choices that come up.

well twisted i checked my scrap bag and i am gonna need to sit this one out. i did a pif recently and mailed two flat rate boxes of extra scraps now i don't have enough to stuff up a flat rate envelope.

oh well, hopefully this will be a well received swap and there will be a repeat one. i am in constant quilt motion so should be able to participate next time around. good luck hosting. and here's to hoping there will be plenty of treasures traded.

Havplenty, I'm so sorry you won't be joining us on this adventure. Hopefully you'll have enough stash to participate in the next 1.5" swap! I'm waiting for the current postage stamp swap to end before starting the next.

Havplenty 02-05-2012 09:20 AM

you will be hosting the 1.5" swap again? good deal. i am still thinking about jumping in the current neutral one.

Twisted Quilter 02-05-2012 11:55 AM

Yep, I'll be hosting the next swap. I'm good for at least 6 more! Wish I could do the neutral swap but I don't have near enough to participate.

ntaylor 02-06-2012 09:05 AM

gathered some scraps up and I hope I can cram them all in a flat rate envelope. A lot of mine are fat quarters or a little smaller. I know that I won't get FQ's back, I just wanted to get rid of some of these things and twisted quilter I included a giftie for you too!

Twisted Quilter 02-06-2012 11:52 AM

Ooooh, I love gifts! I'll be waiting at the mailbox. :)

NCquilter 02-06-2012 04:53 PM

I dropped off my squishie at the PO. You should be getting it soon. I included a baggie of 1.5" postage squares, not sure how many there were. They are from the last 1.5" swap a participated in. I am collecting brights. The baggie has mostly neutrals. I hope someone can use them!

nise 02-06-2012 08:27 PM

hope you got my pm, I want in also

Mzjwest 02-06-2012 09:20 PM

So, how many do you have signed up for the scrap swap??

:)

Twisted Quilter 02-07-2012 08:04 AM

We have 15 adventurous participants! Today is the last day to sign-up, but if anyone wants to join after today and can get their package to me by the 14th, send me a PM.

Hey NCQuilter, I'll take the 1.5" squares if that's okay with you.:o

All PM's answered.

Patricia Faye 02-07-2012 01:21 PM

Hello, I mailed my package of scraps to you today with tracking.

The woman at the post office called me yesterday to let me know about the flat rate envelopes. The one woman thought flat in flat rate meant the envelope had to be flat. The other woman said no that is the rate that is charged. lol So she called yesterday to let me know they have had many conflicting emails about how thick an envelope can be. That's why different POs do it differently. So after much investigation they told me it's suggested it be no more than 3/4" thick and evenly packaged so it doesn't look like a football. It can be as thick as you can get it but they know the envelopes have a tendancy to break open if they are stuffed any fuller. She said since mine isn't going that far, it was ok to use the flat rate envelope but if it were going across country, and that thick, I should use the next envelope that feels like fabric. She said the envelope can get ripped open, especially on the corners and the contents may be lost. Just wanted to let everyone know this is supposed to be the official answer. But all PO are run differently. Hopefully, mailing mine today.

Twisted Quilter 02-08-2012 09:00 AM

Normally my post office doesn't care about the fullness of the envelope, but I noticed new people working yesterday. I hope they're temporary workers.

Mail is in...received packages from NCQuilter & Sewbeadit. Great job filling those envelopes ladies!

I mailed today with confirmation. I used the softer feeling envelope and stuffed that thing like crazy, it must of been like 2-3 pounds and the lady behind the counter didn't blink an eye! This is gonna be a fun and exciting swap!

ntaylor 02-08-2012 11:37 AM

when should we expect the swap to be returned?

Twisted Quilter 02-08-2012 05:44 PM

If I receive all packages prior to the 14th, I'll begin swapping. I gave some thought to swapping out and mailing as I received them, but I'm afraid I'll end up with a few short envelopes in the end.

HANG IN THERE! :D

sewbeadit 02-09-2012 12:35 AM

I was looking on the list on the net for priority envelopes and there is a small and a large one for the same price of 5.15, I had only known of the smaller one until then. It also said it was made for flat items like paperwork, can't remember the exact words. I know each PO is different, we have one you can't put tape on it or it be very bulgy, the other one doesn't care and if it looks bulgy they put tape on it when they take it. So I am thinking you just have to find the right PO and that they don't know what is right or wrong either!

Glad you got my package in one piece.lol sewbeadit

I didn't know there were 2 sizes either. She took mine and taped everything up, the top and the sides. Mailed it yesterday. She said it should be delivered on the 10th. This is almost like Christmas, can't wait to see what I get.

Twisted Quilter 02-09-2012 09:34 AM

Received package from Patricia today. Thank you for the wonderful surprise!

Wow, you ladies really know how to stuff an envelope!
