Gershwin64 08-31-2015 01:38 PM

Sorry it's so big. The other set is opposite of this one. I'm finished except for the labels, should be able to get those on this evening and set up a pick up for tomorrow.

Muse&Sew 09-02-2015 06:52 AM

The big countdown has begun, only nine days until our swap is over. Happy sewing everyone!

A little more Halloween trivia, the two traditional colors for Halloween are Orange & Black.
Orange stands for the fall harvest, and black signifies death.

86% of Americans decorate their house for Halloween.

Muse&Sew 09-05-2015 11:06 AM

happylab, so sorry about having to redo a set! You can probably use them in the Halloween swap. Looking forward to seeing your cut witches!

Muse&Sew 09-08-2015 06:18 AM

Hi Everyone! Gentle reminder, I will need your blocks mailed to me by the end of this week! I'm planning on swapping them on the 18th!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ibex94 09-08-2015 02:52 PM

So I thought I would give you all my thoughts on this project. I'm a first time swapper. This is also the first time I have ever machine appliqued (zig zag stitch was only option on my machine for the scale of this Witchy Sue) and this is the first time I have ever used a bonding agent to do applique. Thank you for all these firsts!

I have found out that I cannot do a zigzag stitch on the shoes or arms with much correct contouring. I did a lot of ripping to get those pieces done to a point that I could accept the stitching.

I found that I don't like how stiff the Heat and Bond Lite (thermoweb) makes the squares feel. The Witches are stiffer than I am used to with hand applique without bonding.

I found that despite thinking I wasn't going to need that much time to do the zig zagging, boy was I wrong. Tracking the perfect fabrics down was one task that took longer than expected, too. Despite my stash, I still had to go out and buy things. I thought that was going to be the most time consuming part. Nope. Stitching that crazy zigzag was my biggest time eater for these squares. Next swap, I can plan my time out better.

I am so impressed at the organization skills of Muse&Sew! Thank you for this wonderful project!

Maybe by next year at this time I'll have my Halloween quilt done. Still have tons of squares to make. Did I see something about a Halloween swap coming up....? If any of you do get your Witchy Sue project done, please post a picture of it in here.

Thank you, again, to Muse&Sew and all of you for the fun these last few months. -- Juana

Getting close to swapping time! I've been in touch with everyone & I'm planning on swapping on the 18th. Thanks everyone!

yonnikka 09-13-2015 10:36 AM

Juana, I'm reading your comments about joining this swap, and I, too, encountered some of those "Firsts." First time I tried to applique those teeny-weeny pieces like the shoes, socks, and broomstick. First time to use Heat&Bond Lite, and I used some of the fancy Built-In stitches on my Brother computerized sewing machine... and learned (thanks to my struggles and Excellent Advice from my quilting neighbor Debi) that yes, I could make those stitches smaller, both in length and width. THAT was exciting because it gave me much more control over my process and improved my Completed appliques. And I'd like to add my appreciation for our Organizer, Muse&Sew, who does a fantastic job. Thanks, everyone. I look forward to seeing more photos of your blocks and completed projects.

SheriR 09-13-2015 08:21 PM

I'm getting excited! I already have a plan for putting it together!!!

Muse&Sew 09-15-2015 06:36 AM

Donna thanks sew much! I'm sure everyone is wishing they had this design before the swap was over. This way everyone can add to their Sue stash if they want. :) Love it!

donna873 09-16-2015 05:35 AM

In the next day or so I plan on putting a satin stitch on it as an alternative to the blanket stitch, I like the blanket stitch, not a fan of the satin stitch.

ibex94 09-16-2015 07:48 AM

I'm wishing I had one of the embroidery machines, now, after seeing the digitized Sunbonnet Sue! Thanks, Donna.... something else for my wishlist, lol.

Muse&Sew 09-18-2015 02:14 PM

Love this swap! Just adore this treat. Thank you.

Muse&Sew 09-21-2015 07:38 PM

Absolutely love the picture yonnikka! They're adorable!

I'm sew happy you like your Witchy Sue's!

Cuppy had an idea of doing one for Christmas with elf hats. (Might could include Santa hats) I'm thinking of a white background. I know this one had lots of small parts. Would anyone be interested? I could blow up the pattern so it's bigger. The machine embroidery pattern was 6 1/4 inches. That would be about an inch bigger, but you'd probably want a 9 1/2 block then. (Possibly a bigger pattern too) Let me know your thoughts. Just curious if there would be an interest.

SheriR 09-21-2015 08:05 PM

Love my blocks! Yes they arrived today too! I really learned a couple of things too. I wish I'd used a different stitch to see the pieces down. For one.... Thanks for this fun swap. Thanks for letting me join.

trish b 09-21-2015 09:18 PM
