I am joining in this one . Our international borders are open so with luck our mail will come back near normal.
I have started my hanger and from this photo you will see it will be applique |
R-sea I am so glad you will be able to join us again. The applique wall hanging looks and sounds both promising.
|
That's a very strong clue, r-sea. I've started mine too but no clues as yet
|
I just subscribed to this thread. I have been wanting to do a WH swap for the longest time. This time I am going to try and get it done! You all do such lovely work.

Make sure you send me your info. You will find the list on the first page of this thread. Thanks Rhonda |
If anyone is willing to mail international, please let me know. There are still some limits on mailing international, but I think most of the time it should be ok to mail. I just mailed a pkg to Australia and waiting with bated breath to make sure it gets to her. lol I was told the tracking only goes to Customs and not to her house. So hopefully it won't go astray between customs and her house.
We have 3 international swappers and I like to be able to vary who sends to them and who they send to. Thank you so much everyone for making my swaps such a great place to share our love of quilting! |
Thank you for welcoming me. I just pm'd my info to Rhonda.
|
I’m in, of course! I haven’t made a decision on mine yet but cute possibilities!
R-Sea…so glad you are back this round! I missed you! sewbizgirl….yea! These swappers rock and are so creative! Can’t wait to see what you create. Teasers welcomed!🌸 |
I hope you guys are in the mood for whimsical this round. I discovered a pattern I bought from our big annual quilt show a few years ago. I forgot I purchased it….Purchased it from one of my favorite designer (Loralie) booths even though it wasn’t her pattern….Today, it inspired me so I’m off and running.

Here is you’alls wallhanging… This was so fun to make…This is a pattern called Three Chicks with Hattitude, by Sew Wonderful Dreams. The border fabric is from Loralie…her stuff is so whimsical. I added button embellishments because my button inventory rivals my fabrics…lol.. Size is 15x27. All,turned-edge applique. Hope it will be liked by the recipient..

Teen, your WH is adorable! You find the cutest ones to make. ❤️
M-Fay, Yours is cute too….reminds me of my high school pals (still my friends) getting ready for our 60th reunion! 😂 |
Thanks ladies!!
m-fay…..your WH is so dang cute!! And the back is inspiring….wonderful job! |
M-Fay and Teen both of you made beautiful wall hangings. Nice job!
|
What cute WHs, M-Fay and Teen! Love the Loralei fabrics.
I need to get on the ball and come up with a plan for mine. |
Thanks, my friends! Can’t wait to see what you’all come up with!
Hoping those of you in the Southeast did OK through the last storm yesterday. I tracked it cuz mama lives in Georgia…all is well with her and sisters. Looks like it may be a rough season for tornadoes…We had really strong winds yesterday…a bit of rain….today we had hail. Weird weather everywhere….I’d just like a break so I can plant my vegie garden. My strawberry plants and tomato plants are still in my sunroom cuz it’s too cold to transplant yet. All,of my porch plants are still inside, too. It’s like a jungle in my sunroom. Lol… |
Thanks all for the lovely comments. I've started a other WH. This one's for Mr for this Christmas. It's quite large and has applique. I've put it on hold for this month as I get stuck into gardening. Last week we had our first rain for the year and got over 3 inches..( I'm still old school) weeds are starting to come up now and the sun shines back so I'll spray the weeds then plant the veges...if I can buy seedlings. Shop shelf was bare yesterday!
|
I'm starting to get ideas for my WH.... but I have one question first: Is raw edge applique acceptable for this swap? I was thinking of using batik fabric, which doesn't fray or ravel, and then sewing close to the edge.
|
I am fine with that but I know some people do not care for it. Maybe else a small zigzag? Waiting of course to see what out host says.
|
Sewbiz….applique using any method is fine. Lots of creativity using different methods is what makes this a fun swap. Most use us as Guinea pigs to try new techniques or method, which is awesome. The only restrictions are listed in Rhonda’s main post. Go for it!,
|
What teen says, go for it Sewbiz
|
M-Fay, just love your wall hanging. The girls look so cute.

Here's a sneak tiny peek at my WH. It's just about ready for quilting.
|
Yesterday I received Teens beautiful and perfectly sewn WH from the last swap. I posted pics on there. I love it Teen and thank you for it and the goodies. I will enjoy sewing the "kit"
|
Sewbiz….that looks really pretty! And reverse applique! So cool! Can’t wait to see it…
m-Fay…hugs! So glad international shipping finally went through for you. Apologize for delay but happy you are happy! |
I got my WH appliqued yesterday. I decided I didn't like the look of the raw edge applique, so I did a small zig zag instead. Now to quilt it.
I have a question: Are we supposed to send these with a hanging sleeve attached to the back? |
Sewbiz….a sleeve or fabric hoops or corner pockets etc. is not a requirement but many of us have always included one of these in our WH. Also, your choice on putting a label on it but I would recommend….Personally, I like the history…
Your work is always beautiful so, no doubt, this WH will be, as well. |
Well , you have all been busy since I last looked in . My heap of scraps have turned into a wall hanging , just have to finish the binding.
|
Well in my opinion the maker has all the say in how the WH is made. There are no restrictions of any kind other than size
So as a couple of people have said -- Go for it! It is your choice. So if you leave an applique edge unsewn it is ok. And if anyone is bothered by an open edge they can always add a little stitching to secure it if it bothers them. For me how the maker made it is just fine. I have one "Doll Quilt" I got in a swap a long time ago and it is not quilted and is very wrinkled because of no quilting. But it is beautiful just as it is! I love the work she put it! If anyone wants to add a hanging sleeve that is great and if you don'/t we all have ways of hanging a WH with out a sleeve. I use a stapler and just put one staple in each corner. Quick and easy. And if anyone examines it too close and sees the staple that is just not a problem for me lol Yes I wouild advise adding some sort of label. You can add a fabric square with all the info or you can write your info on the WH with a fabric pen. If you forget to add one it's not a problem. I have forgotten and just now realized I didn't add anything to a Trivet I made for a swap. LOL Oh well. I might make a label and send itt to her |

OK, here it is.... the colors came out kinda dark. It's really more orangey than it looks. I did a small zig zag on the edges after all. This is a Hawaiian pattern called "orchid". I'm not going to add a hanging sleeve because the new owner may decide it looks best hung on point... or not. But I will make a label for the back.
|
That is stunning, sewbiz!! Gorgeous fabric and I can see the detail of work involved.. Just beautiful!

Thank you. I love Hawaiian quilts, tho this one wasn't made the traditional way, with turned edge applique and echoing hand quilting. I only made one Hawaiian quilt the 'real' way... this 4o" square wall hanging in my quilting room:
