Exactly right Ronda, we were typing at the same time. Thanks glad that they arrived and are at your house . Has Quiltermomma officially signed up yet? All her candy ideas she better or I'll have to start twisting that arm of hers again.

beaqltr 09-30-2012 12:31 PM

Brrrrrr! Very pretty.

SheriR 09-30-2012 12:35 PM

Sue, Glad you found something you can use. I was thinking hard rock ribbon candy, it brings back fun child memories.... but I don't remember what store I saw it in and did NOT buy it....I should have listened to that quilty voice in my head saying "buy it buy it."

beaqltr 09-30-2012 12:42 PM

Be careful what you wish for, or be very specific. Wish for one or two inches at most!

kensington 09-30-2012 12:57 PM

Hey there girls... I just finished my applique. All of my blocks are done and ready to go. Not sure when I will ship, but probably the end of this week or the first of next. I have quilts that have to be shipped first. But... I'm getting there!

kensington 09-30-2012 01:02 PM

PS... where is the address to send the blocks to? Did I miss it in the OP? Thanks

rwquilts 09-30-2012 05:42 PM

A warm welcome to beaqltr! Happy to have you join us! Sounds like you gals are on the ball...I'm gonna have to kick it in high gear to catch up with some of you ladies...can you hear me huffing and puffing from all the exertion?

Kensington, I've pm'd you my address. :)

Elisabrat 09-30-2012 08:50 PM

Spying in here seeing what everyone is making. I guess I will have to wait for a jan/feb swap of maybe some cool valentine stuff not whacky.. I have blocks to finish first for another swap and one at a time one at a time. Marybet they have coupons for hobby lobby online. I shop there but online only. No stores near here. Like a Michaels all in all more crafty stuff.. but good online printable coupons.

I love the blocks your creating everyone it seems like it will make some cute Christmas items,, all hangings, table runners? table mats? oh oh so many choices such wonderful blocks to work with. I hope everyone posts an after pic of their finished blocks wall hangings.. let everyone else drool. I will, promise.

moonrise 10-01-2012 03:46 AM

Those snowmen are the cutest!

Mariposa 10-01-2012 08:26 AM

Very cute snowmen!

SewExtremeSeams 10-01-2012 09:16 AM

Ronda, your snowmen are toooooooo, toooooo cute! Those are my favorite winter time whimsical figures!

rwquilts 10-01-2012 09:36 AM

Thanks you guys! They are taking a bit of time. I was going to put carrot noses on, but decided whomever gets them can do what they want for noses or no noses. :)

kensington 10-01-2012 12:05 PM

I want one! Very cute Rhonda! I was wondering what everyone was up to... what are they making. Loving all the pics.

marytoddliz 10-01-2012 11:35 PM

That is just too weird... I write and then my typing just disappears right off my screen. I have never seen that before! must be in the twilight zone again  I better go to bed.

No running tomorrow but I have to do the toning and I don't like that part! lifting weights is not my thing. But Coach says it will help me in the long run! 34 Days left to get it right! It won't be long now.

I did forget what I was going to type... I guess I need to go to bed for real! What to do now that the blocks are in, I have to just come in and encourage everyone else!

Marybeth

I finished my set of snowmen yesterday afternoon. I do like them and hope you do as well. :)

Mariposa 10-02-2012 06:35 AM

Very cute! ;)

marytoddliz 10-02-2012 04:03 PM

I love them, they are adorable! where did you get the pattern, my GD might need another quilt! One special for when it snows and she gets cold just looking at it! LOL... my daughter would have my head if I make her one more quilt before she turns 5, that was the word!

I have had my embroidery machine on most of the day, so I can kick back and compute while it is doing all the hard work, I just have to stop and change color.

I told my husband he needs to sign up on the boards so I can make more holiday blocks! He said no way, if he didn't do it to get the candy with the SP exchange he would not do it so I could just make more Santa's & stuff!

craft phanatic 10-03-2012 02:11 PM

Ronda, those snowmen are too cute! I'm hoping to get one but if not I'm gonna "borrow" the idea and try to copy it! I started on another set of 12" square blocks. I decided to use the asterisk quilt block pattern with holiday fabric. Kinda looks like a big snowflake. I'll post a pic tomorrow.
Marybeth, you are too funny!

My photography stinks, but here's a sneak peek of my blocks. The first block with the tree and the last block with the poinsettia/angel didn't show up well ... they're "richer" in person ... but hopefully you get the idea. :)

Oh! These are all so pretty!!!

jaba 10-03-2012 08:27 PM

Moonrise those are stunning!! I have GOT to get my embroidery machine going, just waiting on all the thread I ordered. You ladies are my inspiration, I've put using it off forever and now I can't stand it, gotta' learn how to do this. Well the machine knows how, it's the input you know...the part of what you program in is what comes out, yup, that's the part I'm not to sure about.

You can do it jaba! You really can. The first one is the hardest than there will be no stopping you. I speak from experience and give my support. I would not be doing any embroidery if a friend here on the QB had not done the same for me. :D ( heart to Fraew )

kensington 10-03-2012 09:49 PM

Hey Moonrise... I hope this is not out of the box. But, that block with Ice Skates, how much would you charge me to make one? So many swappers and only one Ice Skates block... It reminded me immediately of my mom, she loved to ice skate, and she was the only girl in the family, on her birthday after she was married and expecting her first child, her uncle asked her what she wanted, she said "Ice Skates" and he got them for her. I still have them. I am going to put new ribbon in them and put them by my fireplace this Christmas. I would love to have one of those blocks to put in my Christmas quilt I am making. Would you consider allowing me to purchase one? Help a girl carry on a precious memory of her mother. :)

rwquilts 10-04-2012 06:01 AM

Moonrise, your blocks are beautiful! Forget my PM asking if you can pics of your blocks. LOL! I read your PM before coming into the thread this morning. You're waaay ahead of me! I have to admit you gals doing your machine embroidery work are surely adding to our swap! I love getting a nice variety of blocks as it makes a quilt more interesting!

A warm welcome to Moonrise and Girlscouts1! We're climbing and up to 23 participants! :)

jaba 10-04-2012 06:58 AM

Thanks for the encouragement SheriR, I'm going to need all the help I can get have a feeling. MaryBeth has also been great, giving me all kinds of hints and sites to get more patterns. Just got a notice saying the thread order should be here on Monday. Wish it would come early so I have all weekend, don't know why, it's not as if I go to work 8 - 5 on Monday, I'll probably still be in my nightgown at 10 am . I'm really praying it's just going to pop right in my head and be smooth sailing, like the light bulb came on, right kind of unrealistic huh? Time will tell.

jaba 10-04-2012 07:02 AM

Forgot to say welcome to moonrise and girlscouts, yup yup we need more blocks going around. Now if I could convince rwquilts to just send me the embroidery ones then I'd have some examples to go by. Might have to work on that, she'd help a poor girl out don't ya' think????

Fraew 10-04-2012 07:56 AM

Jaba, I am new to machine embroidery too! I bought my fancy machine as a graduation present to myself in 2004...just opened the embroidery box in July! No pressure from SheriR though. He he. My first one was pretty ambitious with 20 color changes. Stitched nicely but puckered. I showed it to SheriR, she helped me fix the puckering and off I ran! Talk about a whole new world and my machine uses floppy disks so talk about a fast learning curve. It's super easy, lots of fun and I have had a great response from board members. Thanks to all of you for your support and Jaba, you know that we are here to support you too! :)

BTW - my 2nd embroidered block is in my albums "finished"...Santa's getting ready".

Now get out there and stitch up some stuff! Hugs

jaba 10-04-2012 08:24 AM

Are you fibbin' to me Fraew? 2nd one you did, absolutely amazing. Looks pretty perfect to me right down to his little spectacles, it is soooo cute. I'm getting inspired but the stomach has alot of fluttering butterflies going round and round

No joke...I ordered my thread over the July 4th week. It arrived the following week and I finished Santa (quilting and all) on the 19th! And yes, I had butterflies too. But clearly not rocket science...so bid those butterflies fair well and jump in the deep end with us. It's nice and warm. :)

craft phanatic 10-04-2012 11:40 AM

Moonrise those blocks are beautiful! You girls and your fancy machines!!!! I am so so glad your playing!! I love all the embroidery blocks and they add so much to a quilt. I know you say the machine does all the work but I think you are not taking enough credit. Your search for the perfect patterns, all the thread changes, knowing how to do all that and the time it takes to do it all add up to some gorgeous blocks! You all are making it quite hard for me to resist buying an embroidery machine for myself!
Welcome to all the new swappers!

moonrise 10-04-2012 02:20 PM

Wow, thanks, y'all! :D

Sure, I'll be glad to. PM me your address and I'll pop one in the mail to you. What a wonderful memory! :) (I tried ice skating once. Let's just say that I polished the whole skating rink with my backside! LOL!)

marytoddliz 10-04-2012 07:08 PM

I started working with my machine early this summer, it is easy. The hard part is picking out the patterns and not spending the whole day looking through the books! But don't forget the free patterns, there are lots of free patterns available. I have my desk set up in a u shape my good ole' sewing machine Nellie is right next to my new fancy Greta and on the other side is iron board/lap top. When time to change thread I just turn and change and let greta do the rest. I have found the secret is in the stabilizer. You have to have the right one for the right fabric. and ALWAYS use a bobbin thread that is made for Embroidery bobbin. You won't fight your machine as much if you do that.

I really kick myself for waiting so long to use the machine. I bought her in Nov 07, retired in Jan 08 and started using her big time in June of 12... I could have made a lot of really cool things in that amount of time.

My GF who bought her Bernina Artista in 2001 has never used it after her classes ended. We just found out today that the technology is obsolete. She has the Magic Box that has to be used with a 32 bit system, well there is nothing being made with the 32 bit system. So she has to find a really old computer to be able to update her Embroidery patterns. I am working on it with her, I think I found an old computer that will work, the whole computer is selling for $25.00 on Craigs list! The one good thing about having an outdated system is the things you find to run it are pretty cheap!

SheriR 10-04-2012 08:43 PM

Y'all are cute. Isn't it fun to learn so much from each other. I am not near an expert. Infact I wish I had time and lived closer to my QS so I could take lessons. I'm greatful at least I have the chance to try out project with you great ladies.

jaba 10-05-2012 07:08 AM

MaryT if you can't find computer let me know, I've got a couple or three downstairs. Actually I have an old dell laptop with win98 I bet would work. Let me know would be glad to get rid of them. There is just no place here to recycle so downstairs they go in the storage room. They won't let you take them to the dump. Even have the big old monitors for each system, all the books and cd's. Very cheap, but I need postage fee.

Okay girls, here's another finished set. These blocks are 6 1/2" x 9 1/2". I'm trying to get a variety of sizes. Hope you like them. I will include 3 red buttons in a bag, but just am showing what one looks like in the picture. The face has been painted on with fabric paint.

Mariposa 10-05-2012 03:31 PM

Very cute gingerbreads! :)

Now that is just plain showing off. But, I like it! :p

But, I do have a question, two of my blocks have a ribbon to attach, I was wondering if I needed to pin it to each block or just put all five of them in the baggie with the blocks?

PS... also, I want green buttons.
