I can't wait to get the blocks, what a great holiday quilt we will have, I am working on finding backing fabric, i think a nice flannel will be great. I want to see how fast my daughter takes back her words to me saying I can't make Charleigh a quilt till she is 5! she will be 3 on the 14th and she already has 17 quilts that Grandma made for her! (I really did not know that until my daughter told me!) I just love making her quilts, she loves them so much! I told my daughter we should have her give some of them away to sick kids. Not only would it be a nice thing to do it would teach Charleigh at an early age to be a gracious giver.

Fraew 10-05-2012 04:54 PM

OK Ronda, Fraew needs snowmen and gingerbread. Just sayin'. He he.

atpegsquiltstudio 10-06-2012 05:18 AM

I love snowmen!! They look great. I have "Snowpeople" around the house all year. These swaps are really nice. Getting different blocks. Ones we dont make ourselves. Well, at least I don't make.

craft phanatic 10-06-2012 02:06 PM

Oh Ronda, I never even thought of gingerbread men!! GREAT blocks! You always come up with the cutest ideas!

SewExtremeSeams 10-06-2012 02:16 PM

:D:D Ronda, you grabbed my idea :D:D , however, I am sure there is room for more gingerbread people, right?

Yours are very cute. I love having gingerbread men and snowmen around my home all the time. I have some made from years ago out of dark brown felt. I love bringing them out each year. I was knee deep in rasing kids then. My, oh, my... how time does fly by! Memories are so wonderful.:)

craft phanatic 10-07-2012 11:34 AM

Linda, I think more gingerbread men would be welcomed! I know I, for one, want one of everything shown already!!hehe I know that's not realistic but it doesn't hurt to dream.

Bring em on I say! That's like saying we can only have one ornament or one tree, or one whatever? NOT! :)

owlvamp 10-07-2012 06:26 PM

You all have made beautiful blocks.

SewExtremeSeams 10-07-2012 08:25 PM

Oh, I was planning to still make them. Can't wait.

owlvamp 10-08-2012 10:36 AM

I order some fabric this morning hoping to get it back real soon then will join hopefully. Will see.

I just have to stop in and give a BIG HIGH FIVE to Moonrise. I got a package from her today. I had told her how her block reminded me of my mom who loved Ice Skating, and she sent me a block.... and she sent me a Doll Quilt made with one too! I can't wait to display it during the holidays and tell the story about her and my mom's Ice Skates! What a wonderful blessing. A true "God Wink" in my life. Thank you so much Moonrise. I'm just in AWE of your sweet heart! (The fabrics all sparkle too!)

Oh they are beautiful! High 5 to Moonrise!

SheriR 10-09-2012 02:38 PM

Super pretty, sweet moonrise! Very sweet.

moonrise 10-09-2012 03:46 PM

Glad you like them! :D I left the block untrimmed so it can be cut to whatever size you'd like. :)

rwquilts 10-09-2012 04:20 PM

Moonrise, that was a wonderful thing you did for Kensington! Just beautiful! :)

It really is a wonderful thing. I've never had a Doll Quilt. They are so cute. I'm just blown away!

cuppy 10-09-2012 07:21 PM

wonderful blocks, everyone. I am trying a few different patterns. This is fun.

Beautiful doll blanket and block. Love them both. I never had a doll blanket either.. Then again I don't have any friends that do anything for me :( sick or well. People just use me for my talents or see what they can get free. All my friends live from one side of the coast to the other. Here on the board :). Here everyone wants to help someone or another and that is so awesome and kind. Big hugs everyone.

Moonrise, I received your blocks last night. They are terrific! And a big "thank you" to you as well. :) Here are my last two sets of blocks for this swap. The angel blocks are 9 1/2" and the eight point stars blocks are 6 1/2". I hope you guys like them. Now I can just relax and see what all the rest of these blocks will look like that you all are making. I love seeing variety!

And here is a closeup of the angel and star blocks.

kensington 10-10-2012 09:55 AM

rwquilts, you went above and beyond. All of your blocks are just great. Anyone who gets them will be happy!

SewExtremeSeams 10-10-2012 11:12 AM

I agree, Ronda, your blocks are the cutest! And you have inspired all of us.

OK! I am not sure I have 'officially' committed to this swap, so I want to do so. I am not sure how many sets but for SURE I am know I am making gingerbread and snowmen of some style. I will PM you RW.

Sew here is a silly question, maybe. I am new to raw edge applique. I notice RW that you sew yours a little away from the edge of your applique. Since I have never made a quilt with raw edge applique, my question is: is the idea that when it is washed it frays the edges a little? Hope that is not too dumb:D:D

urgodschild2 10-10-2012 01:39 PM

Ok I have been looking at this and have the material to make Hot Chocolate, penguins, angels, pointsettias, cats frolicking in the snow, and ??????? can't remember. But i will see what I can make and then I will sign up.

Yummm... I just saw a hot cup of chocolate on some sight with sugar cookies above it with those sprinkles on it... quilted. Sew cute.

rwquilts 10-10-2012 02:26 PM

Urgodschild2, those sound like fun blocks!

Welcome SewExtremeSeams! Glad to have you join us! I really don't know a great answer to your question...I think if you're really wanting the raggy look, that you might want to clip and leave more of a seam allowance on the outside?

I think so, it will fray a tiny bit after washings. But, should not come unraveled. HTH.

Thanks Ronda! The problem is I am a perfectionist (only in my sewing~~meaning I am not satisfied and will rip and rip to get there...) so my whole being is pulling towards wanting the edges to be smooth and finished. :D
:D Have to laugh at myself because I know I am defeating the purpose and quickness of raw edge applique. :D

You do whatever floats your boat! :) I have done all types of applique, from raw edge, to satin stitch, blanket stitch by hand and machine, to painstaking hand applique.

owlvamp 10-10-2012 07:04 PM

Beautiful blocks everyone.

craft phanatic 10-11-2012 02:13 PM

Oh my goodness, you girls have been busy. I haven't been on for a few days and I sure did miss a lot! The ideas seem to be flowing and they are all great! I love the hot choco idea. Can't wait to see those blocks. I'm almost done with another set and will post a pic soon. Ronda, I'm so glad you do these swaps! Makes me feel like I am part of a sewing group. None of my friends like to sew so I am a lone stitcher! Thanks for being such a great group.

urgodschild2 10-12-2012 03:39 PM

Ok I am definitely in. I will be making 4 sets for sure and hoping for 6. The hot chocolate is done and it turned out real cute. I will post a picture later.

PinkLotus 10-12-2012 04:45 PM

I want to play in this swap. I looked at all the beautiful block pics so far and they are beautiful! I am sending a PM now to join-up....

Here's my next set of blocks. They are 12 1/2". I thought I would make a simple pieced block while I am working on hand stitching the snowflakes. So glad to hear we are adding more players to the swap!

Here it is. The camera does not show the chocolate brown very well. I have vertigo today and one of my blocks looks very wonky so I will take it apart and start all over. I guess in my tilting head I thought it was straight. LOL

Well here it is. The brown does not show up as well here. I have vertigo today and so one of my blocks is very wonky. I will have to take it out and start again. I guess it wasn't the room that was tilting but my head. lol.

rwquilts 10-12-2012 07:55 PM

A warm welcome to PinkLotus and urgodschild2! So glad to have you!

Great blocks ladies!

kensington 10-12-2012 08:05 PM

Ugh... I had vertigo once, caused by an inner ear infection. I couldn't even sit on the toilet without falling off. I had to sit down to take a shower and crawl along the LEFT wall in my house to answer the door. I tossed my cookies a bunch on the way to the ER too. It was Halloween, I was so thankful I had made the boys costumes the day before it hit. I spent the night in bed, my daughter drove home from College to dress the boys and grampa came and took them out and about for treating.
