Default Winter 2018 I Spy Swap

Sweep away those winter blues and join in the I Spy Swap!

Here are the guidelines for our next swap. Please read carefully:

Mailing deadline is Monday Mar 19, 2018

Cutting/Packaging Method:
We will be sending 10 different fabrics in each bag we swap. All of your bags may have the same mixture in them, or different, but you cannot repeat fabrics in any one bag. We will be swapping bag for bag, so there must be 10 different fabrics in each bag. Please put your board name and state on every bag you are swapping. For instance, "rbwiese TN" for mine...

You may swap in groups of 8 bags. Some have expressed wanting more sets of bags, so I am removing the upper limit – but each one must use a different set of 10 fabrics. You will get 8 - 5" squares in one width of fabric, provided your print does not require fussy cutting. If it does, you may get fewer cuts out your yardage. Please Fussy Cut if your print requires it. Send the kind of nice squares you hope to receive. Anything less than 8 is not cost-effective for you (shipping). Also – please limit licensed prints and holiday prints to 1 per baggie.

The Usual 'Stuff':
1. Send what you would like to receive, quality-wise. Send only 100% cotton unwashed quilting fabric. Please do not send thin or loosely woven fabrics. If it has to be starched to be acceptable, it's probably not a good fabric for this swap.

2. Try and find new prints you have not sent before or seen in the swap, if at all possible. We all like new stuff! Please select prints that would be acceptable in a child's quilt. No flowers, lines, stars, geometrics, batiks. We need recognizable objects. If I find unusable fabrics in your baggies, I will return all to you unswapped.

3. Then, pm me (rbwiese) and tell me you want to join and how many bags you intend to swap. I need your real name and address. I will respond to you with my mailing address for you to mail your swaps to me.

4. Put all your swap baggies in one big ziplock with your name and mailing address, as well as your board name. That will keep them together in your package and if it happens to get torn open in shipment, your address will be there for the P.O. to return to you. Speaking of "torn open"... those paper flat rate envelopes are the pits. They tear so easily, especially with lumpy contents in them. Do yourself a favor and use something better-- like the Tyvek envelopes or padded flat rate envelopes. You have to order the latter from the post office online, in packages of 10, but they are free. If you do it now, you will have your envelopes in time to mail.

5. Postage: I will be using the padded flat rate envelope. It now costs $6.75 for the padded flat rate envelope using Paypal address labels. Please send cash or you can use Paypal. I can send you my account info. If you send stamps, it will cost the $7.25 that is required by the Post Office. If you have a Paypal account, you can print single label shipping for $6.50 – here is the link https://www.paypal.com/shiplabel/create/
If you want to use an alternative envelope method, please put the postage on the envelope and enclose the self-addressed envelope to me.

Remember to send in what you would like to receive back.
Let’s have tons of fun, and of course you have to follow all the basic QB swap rules, found here:

I have been looking for the I Spy Swap and just found it. If I can find 16 fabrics, I will do 16. If not, it will be 8. Besides the new ones I have bought, I will have to go thru and see what I have that I haven't used in the past.

Ok so I am a newbie here and would like to do this. I'm not 100% sure I am following the requirements though-as I am reading it I think it is 8-10 bags with 10 5" fabric squares in each bag-each a different print?

Good to see you Jannie! And welcome Stafar - we swap in groups of 8 bags with 10 fabrics per bag. Each set of 8 should have a different set of I Spy fabrics. It only takes 1/4 of a yard to cut the 8 charms. Great to have you join in.

Please send me a PM with your info. Rena

I cut up almost four sets shortly after receiving my last squishie. They have been waiting on a shelf to be stuffed in an envelope and off on an adventure! I'll just need to make sure I have four complete sets done (I may have been two fabrics shy...)

We have another new swapper - welcome to SewHappyinSF! Have heard from several who are either dealing with flu and other illness or are going shopping to see what they can find. Have a few reminders to post:

Please cut off selvage edge before cutting your squares - leaving them on makes the square unusable.

Please make sure that there is at least one complete image on a square - having a teddy bear with part of a head, and elsewhere part of the legs or arms also makes it unusable. Sometimes when starting to cut, use your 5" ruler or cut a square of even wax paper or quilting template and hover it over the squares to see where your images repeat. Sometimes larger prints have to be cut one at a time to make sure you have an image.

Please go through each bag before packaging to double check your squares - it makes it easier on me.

Thanks for reading these!

I'm one of the flu-bies mentioned. Ugh! This stuff is awful! DH came down with it on Wednesday, and dragged himself to the doctor on Thursday morning. He tested as having Type A, and was prescribed Tamiflu. I came down with it on Saturday. The best way I can describe it as being body-slammed on concrete 100 times, then beaten with a baseball bat, and if that's not enough, I was thrown into a volcano, causing crazy fevers, and then somebody tied a truck to me and I'm having to drag it everywhere. (I'm only slightly exaggerating! ha ha)

I think I'm on the downhill side now, but I get exhausted easily ... as in ... walking to the kitchen is a major journey. DH is back at work (he wasn't given a choice), but he's still recovering too. I'm not really sure the Tamiflu did him any good. We seem to be recovering at the same rate. Glad we only had to pay $10 for it, after insurance.

Anyway, I do plan on joining the swap as soon as I'm able to cut my squares, plus I want to make 100% sure I'm no longer contagious.
