I have my ironing board up at all times. when not using it, i click it off. shows a blue light. when i leave the room, i unplug it. i have an extension cord going through the X of the ironing board legs so i can reach it easily. the room is 10x11 maybe. my other bedrooms are teeny tiny, so this was the best one. windows too! didn't have them in Colorado basement! but there i had a 9 foot solid wood door my hubby had made into a cutting table for me. i miss that.

I put shelf / drawer units against the wall where my iron needs to plug it, so DH put a short-cord outlet strip with the on-off switch where I can reach it. Yes, that red light helps!

A good alternative for the power indicator light would be to put a small lamp near it and plug it in. When the lamp is on, the power strip is on.
