I also have tall, deep shelves but love my fabric on boards. I actually use foam core boards. I cut them two different sizes and double line tall ones in back and shorter ones in front so I can see both. It works extremely well for me!

I'm still using mine after quite a few years now. I have 2 sizes I use depending on how much fabric I plan to wrap around it. For 2 yards and under I use the 6 x 9. For 2yds up to 4 yards I use the larger size I think are 10 x 11 or something around that size. Anything larger than that I use the bolt boards I acquired from a fabric store closing shop years ago.

this is why I don't use them although it makes a beautiful collection of fabric from what I've seen.
according to google they average 1/4" thick so 100 would add 25" of spacetaken, 1000 would be 250" of space taken if my poor math skills are correct. someone who actually has them will correct me if I'm wrong.

I ruler folded all mine about 20+ years ago and sorted by color. I don't have any yardage. it's all still good, very easy to find what I'm lookiing for even fat quarter size. My stash since then has reduced by at least 75% so I'm a happy camper.

I bought a bunch of magazine boards (they are a little bit bigger then comic boards) a couple years ago, ran out of them, then used old file folders. I just cut the tab off, they were almost free since I don't use them anymore.

You could ask you LQS owner if you could have the cardboard that the bolts come on. Cut them in half and you have a small board to us. I don't use this method but I bought an end bolt from my LQS that was on sale. It was wrapped on a half cardboard bolt. Its a bit thicker, but also much less expensive.

Dark fabrics might be useful for backings.

Just ordered 100 more from Amazon. Big difference in prices! They work perfectly in my shelves! I skip the clips, BTW.

I have about 150 of them in the garage waiting for fabric to put itself around them...
