Your room is better than most quilt shops! Beautiful and productive too.

I thought the same thing - that your area could be a quilt store. AWESOME! I SO wish I had a basement. First time I've lived very long in a place without one. Course didn't have one in any of the other places when moving with the military; basements aren't good to have in TX, sadly. I grew up in houses WITH basements; you are SO lucky. Looks SO great.

I bought a cart with about 8 drawers in it for my rayon threads, color sorted them, my cotton and polyester threads are on a wall hanging for thread, my serger is in more drawers, I bought smaller totes with drawers for my specialty threads and now my latest thread that I just got a small see thru container for is the new stretch thread from coats n Clark.

What embroidery machine do you have? What sewing machine do you use for piecing? Loved your pics!

Wow Snooze...can I come hang out in your sewing room?

Lynda, I don’t have a large thread collection but I keep them in a chest by content... i.e, poly, cotton

I don't embroider or long arm so my thread collection is minimal. Can't believe I actually said that. It seems that I have too much of everything!
But not thread

Lynda,

EMB threads multiply like rabbits and you will soon have a bunch! You are wise to consider a storage plan in the early stages.

I started with the 12x12 plastic bins and the white thread holders but soon out grew them. Each tray holds 18 spools and two of them fit into these bins.

Now, I use one the wire basket units from con*tainer store with the smaller height drawers for threads. Each drawer is lined with white erase board cut to size. Then I hot glued white golf T's in a grid and each spool sits on a T. Each drawer holds 81 spools.

I have one of those plastic rolling sets of clear drawers that I use for my thread stash. Each drawer holds 2-3 colors and one last drawer has all my 'oddball' threads like invisible thread and a few cones of poly (the rest of my thread is cotton).

I arrange the thread so that from the front you can see through and tell what the colors in each drawer is. The thread itself is almost all from Connecting Threads, which are wound so that you can easily see the thread colors from the top when you open the drawer.

It works very well for me. It's on casters, so when I switch machines I can just roll my thread cart over to the other machine. On top I have a tray stuck on with double-sided tape that holds my stilettos, quilting gloves, snips, and whatever else I am messing with. It's a nice little work station to have by my machine.
