Like cleaning house!

This must have been the weekend for it--I've been doing the same thing.

Great organizing job.

I tried to do that once but I couldn't bear to cut anything into regular squares and strips. I did cut some small pieces into leaders/enders but now I even regret that, because since I took up applique - every tiny bit might be just the right one for a flower part or (my latest!) a fish fin or a bird beak.
So I neatly fold them by fabric/color batik vs cotton print and put them in clear plastic bags. All it means to me is that when I start a project I get to pull them all out and enjoy them all over again!
But never ever throw out anything bigger than 1"x2".

I have a GO to tame my scraps as well.. I found the way that works for me is to have 'pod' tub for specific sizes of fabric that will 'fit' the specific die. when im done with a project ill eyeball the size ans sort accordingly.. I keep scraps Anywhere from 2x2 up to 9 in hexis... ( 1.5 ill keep for a fellow QB member). When my tub gets full i pull out my GO and that die ( for example. 3x3) Ill Iron and cut away.. Keeps me from getting overwhelmed with scraps and i have pre-cuts handy to make a quilt quickly if i need one asap.. ..

and for those who would like me to come to your house and cut your scraps. Sorry, I just found a third tub of my own scraps in my closet! I'm going to be at this for a while...

I counted them because I wanted to see how much $$ I almost threw away! Layer cakes are expensive and so are charm packs! I'll figure up a $ amount later. Weird, I know!

Now if only I can stick to the matter at hand...........finished cutting up the scraps I had to manage, but found a cute panel while doing it and oh, look, it goes with those other fabrics, and gee, if I just put some squares around it.........sheesh, there goes my plan to scrap and then mark a quilt for machine quilting...........I need treatment........

I like cutting long pieces into strips and save the smaller pieces for squares. I hate sewing squares together, although I have done alot of it. If I sew different size strips together I can then cut them into squares or trianglesto make a fence rail, basketweave, or lots of other shapes.

Nice progress!! Make sure you reward yourself with some sewing time.

I tamed my scraps also. Took me several months. I cut mine, 5 1/2, 3 1/2, and 2 1/2. Anything bigger, I leave alone. Unless I'm sure I won't go back to it. Then it just gets cut into the largest size first. I rarely buy more then a fat quarter or 1/4 yard of fabric. I LIKE to scrap quilt.

I think it's smart to cut into the largest size first. (10") You can always cut it down. I would say, you can't put it back together. But, I've been know to sew it back if I need a larger piece. My mom always said, you really don't notice it after it's been quilted. Especially in a scrappy. So do what's best for you. :)
