I've got nearly 40 years of scraps to cut up -- and I've been at it for about the last year & a half. But its very relaxing to put on a movie I've seen before, iron a bunch of scraps & then cut them for several hours. I get 10", 5", 3.5", 2.5", 2" & 1.5" out of mine - lots of strips, except for the 10" & 5". I make scrappy quilts often, and you can't see where I take some of the precuts out to make one, there are so many. I really love that I can make a quilt without cutting up fabric, and I love scrappie quilts.

Nicely done!!

I loooove scrappy quilts. I buy fabric JUST for scrappy quilts. I just can't help it; most of the quilts I grew up with were apparently scrappy quilts so it's a natural fit for me. Quilts that are supposed to only have 3 fabrics...I have to use at least six. LOL

This reminds me that I have some scraps that need cutting down too....

I'm thinking you could hire yourself out. We could all pay you to come and get our scraps in order!

I've been trying to cut up 2 1/2" squares as I go about cutting out my quilts...always have some smaller pieces left over and those get cut up in the 2 1/2" size or sometimes I haul out the AcuQuilt and cut out hexies...WHENEVER I get done with the pile of kits that I have stashed I'll have the start of some scrappy quilts!

Great job of taming those scraps. I see one of my favorite fabrics has been tamed. LOL

I do like DebbE does. I start out with 10" & go all the way down to 1" squares plus 1/2 square triangles. I also do strips plus save the 1/2" strips to wrap around cloths line rope for bowels, baskets & place mats.I do them in the evenings & haven't even made a dent in my scraps yet even though I have several containers full. I have several people that save all their scraps for me, so I have an endless supply. I do get them worked up as I use them for starters & enders. Puts good us to the thread that would normally be cut off & tossed. I always say "waste not want not". My son said I am a horder fo fabric & scraps. But it all makes me happy so fewy on him.

Next time, I think I would do it differently. Instead of cutting the largest square I could out of a scrap and then cutting the next largest out of the same scrap, etc., I think I will sort the scraps by coordinating colors and choose one size to cut a bunch. For example, if I had six coordinating scraps I would cut them all into the same size block, such as 5 inches. The next set of coordinating blocks I might cut to 6 1/2 inches and so forth. That way I can do a more controlled scrappy quilt.

I like that idea. I believe I'll take that comment and run with it. Thanks!

It does feel good to get some organization. I hate cutting out my scraps and I have a ton of them to cut and I do not have the Accuquilt. so sad....

Ditto! The strips are versatile. Love scraps. I cut them with june taylor shape rule.
