We had absolutely no extra space in a little house we onced owned - and 3 children; therefore, my sweet husband turned a closet underneath our stairwell into a sewing area for me. I could not turn around when I went in and sat down, but I loved it. It was MY space and I had a lovered door that I could shut and no one saw the mess if I'd had to leave it. It was really very small but it was perfect for me.

Out in the middle of the desert under a awning, hand cranking away.

Sleepy Hollow...you must have an interesting job! :)

I had a huge square laundry room in one house we had (my current sewing room would fit in it). I put in a kitchen type counter with power and had an island on one end and sewed there. Problem -- it was in the basement and did not get much heat (it was also next to the family room where DS kept trying to blow out his dad's speakers.

my friend:
my main thing is sewing. she wanted a mini sewing room. so for 2 months she worked on converting a closet into a mini sewing area. then she told me she did not know why she did it, she does not even sew. she asked me to make buttonholes in a garment. any size, she would find a button to fit. |
I just had our bathroom redone, got rid of the huge tub and now have a wonderful linen closet 5'x8'. Plenty of storage.

I have long admired Michael Swaine and his most unusual place to sew. Watch him here.

Here's my odd sewing site. Vacationing in Florida, no good place to sew, so I set machine up on bedroom dresser. I stand up while quilting so this setup is working. In fact, its working well and I might try this at home! |
