Default Benches and Stools For Storage

My sewing/office/guest room is coming along, but I still need more storage. I'm starting my hunt a stool to go with a rolltop desk and a narrow bench to go at the end of the bed. Both must offer hidden storage and go with my antique/cabin/cottage theme. I'm going to the Alameda Point Antiques Fair in a couple of weeks to have a look-see.

You could check out wayfair.com. They have many styles of both benches and stools/ottomans. Also, many of them are offered in different wood finishes or upholstery.

I just did a google search on benches with storage (which is a wonderful way to add more storage to a room) and came up with a lot of images. Some are open storage & some are closed. I think with some searching you should be able to come up with something to meet your needs. Maybe you could check out some thrift shops or garage sales for something with a reasonable price that will be good for your room. You might have to refinish it so it goes well in your room. Good luck with your find.

The best type of storage I can think of would be an old hope chest. They are deep for storage and are good seating too.

If your bed frame is tall enough, you can put drawers or bins under it.

Do you have an old cedar chest? I have one from my mother and use it in the hallway. Added a little quilt over it made to size, added a couple pillows from orphan embroidered blocks and it gives me storage within. Might check with thrift shops for one of these.

Thanks everyone. I love hope chests, but I don't have enough floor space for one in this room. I'm going to hunt for a skinny bench that has storage. I'd like to find something old and unique.

I posted this because it's just another way to find some space in the sewing room. I thought I'd share.

I have a large hope chest at my mom’s house that I somehow need to get to my place. It would be perfect for storing quilts.

I just bought a bench from wayfair.com and found it much too flimsy for our entryway. The hinges ripped out when we tried to lift the lid. It looks nice so I'm keeping it, but if I ever buy another storage bench, it will be something I find in person, not online.
