great idea to compare them. I can see how the triangle method would be less trouble. And yes, they both are very nice!

Not long ago, I made a chevron baby quilt using half-square triangles. More recently, I decided to make another and I thought I'd try the rectangle method. Overall, I agree with Katier825's conclusions. But I'd like to add a few comments. First, I think I like the HST method best. But the rectangle method seemed to go together faster, although I didn't time the two quilts. The main reason I tried the rectangle method was I was using fabric with larger graphics than the first quilt and I wanted them to remain intact. If I had used HSTs, then the graphics would have been cut apart. Finally, I had the idea of stay stitching around the quilt to help prevent stretching after the edges were trimmed down. And it did seem to help. I had also read of someone who suggested using narrow strips of iron-on interfacing to prevent the bias from stretching.

Each method has its good and bad points - I guess it's just about picking the method you like best.
