I just noticed that she did the embroidery on the inside of that reverse app. 'loop'. I only noticed the other day that the book showed it in the pattern, because I don't think Aie did it in the coloured pic (must check on that). I hadn't done it, and I don't think I will now. My loop is light pink, and I don't think my yellow DMC would enhance it somehow.

I think this will be the first time I have left any embroidery off, but there have been a couple of blocks that I have added a bit extra in places. (mostly to outline a fabric that is a little dark on the black background and doesn't show it all that well.

I agree Lesley, I was thinking that I might do some extra embroidery when I don't feel like my applique piece's edge looks like I want it to. Then who would know????

Kathy - as our resident fusible machine-stitch applique guinea pig, how did you do the "reverse" applique part of this block? I was thinking that with the fusible, I would fuse it on and then satin stitch just like any other part of the block. Is that how you did it, or is there some funky reverse fusible method of applique that I haven't seen? Thanks!

I need to take a pic of mine, but I didn't do reverse applique on mine. I did needleturn, but you could do it the same way...I just laid the color appliqued the yellow bit to the background, cut away the background...marked the yellow and then appliqued the background piece to that...regular applique and it turned out great. I haven't done my embroidery on mine yet is why I haven't taken a pic yet...

I didn't do reverse applique. I did a machine version of Patti's quasi-needleturn method. We both had the same idea!

I appliqued a large patch of the yellow where it would be along the outer edges of the tiny ribbon. Then I trimmed out the back black fabric underneath the yellow patch, leaving about 1/4" margin all around. Then I appliqued another black patch that touched the inner edge of the yellow ribbon. Trimmed out the yellow from behind that! Then proceeded to applique everythign else. I think I have a pic of the back somewhere. I'll see if I can find it.
