Gai..that is just gorgeous and I'm sooo happy that you are having it hand quilted. It will be a big job, but well worth it. The original maker will be proud (probably from quilters heaven)..I'm curious now...is there a date anywhere on it?

So cool. What are you going to put on the back? Are you going to in incorporate the orphan blocks? Did you get the backstory on the top?

WOW -- that's gorgeous. So glad you "rescued" that top and will do right by it. It amazes me what people will sell. My kids will have a terrific garage sale when my time comes. (I also bought some quilt tops from ebay -- got burned by several, and the others are incredibly ugly. But hey, somebody somewhere spent a lot of time piecing them. At least now they are on my shelf where I can appreciate the work that went into them.)

Esq, I don't have any backstory for the top. I'm ambivalent about whether I want to. On the one hand it would be incredibly interesting and make the quilt more valuable, at least to me. On the other hand, I would probably feel obliged to try to find a family member who would cherish it as a FAMILY heirloom.

Beautiful quilt and I think you're right by having it handquilted. The Armish do such lovely work and you'll have a wonderful treasure when it's completed. Thanks for sharing.
